I remember reading about this before... imagine how much exposure Alpha Flight would have gotten with Cable in the mix.
Also, I seem to recall an article mentioning that Wyre was created to be a similar, "Cable-like" character for the team... any truth to that?

It'd have to be. Cable, Wyre, Chord (New Warriors), Bastion (Team Titans... hey, that's not some kind of filament!) all very similar characters.

I never considered Chord (from the New Warriors) to fit that nitch though. He wasn't super into guns and being over the top.

He was into guns (even if not as much as the other two), led / taught / mentored a team of youngsters, was a tough merc type, and was named after wire. He fits to me. :/

I'm just happy that Marvel stopped there.
We could have had even more characters with names like Rope... or Twine... or String... or Lasso.

Lasso could have worked, I agree. I'm glad there's no "Strap". For obvious reasons.
