Doctor Strange (The Motion Picture)

So, I saw Doctor Strange last night...

... and I was very non-fussed by it.
It all felt decidedly average to me and seemed to drag on, with very poor fight scenes and too many attempts at humour.
I know it's an origin film and a non-commonly known character, but it just felt lacking.

I'd be interested to see what others felt.

It's what comes of living in the country where they're actually filmed.
Which is something I'd never have dreamed of happening 10 years ago, but for some reason in this day and age Marvel are cool that way.

I saw it last night, too, and loved it.

I loved the humour of it (hadn't expected that much!), and that it was actually fantastic (in the magic sense).

The colours were dark, but there were a lot of them and you could tell them apart.

It definitely kept the psychedelia. I also thought it went very quick.

Weird how we got such opposing reactions to the same thing, huh?

2D... I'm not paying extra for a dimension I'm not even going to use!

(Somebody commented that that movie would be spectacular in 3D; they might be right.)

I saw it in 2D and absolutely loved it. Good mix of origin, to make those not familiar with the character, more familiar with his personality; good mix of action, and the effects were amazing. Magic was done perfectly and not over the top. Through and through a VERY well done movie.

My son and I saw it in 3D, and thought it was a very good movie.
Benedict Cumberbatch absolutely nailed the character... the style, the mannerisms, he was exceptional.
I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of humour in this film. I was not expecting it, but loved it.
The story flowed seamlessly, and I thought the way Baron Mordo was handled was brilliant. To watch his character's descent into being a villain is so well done.
Looking forward to his next appearance.

See, I thought the exact opposite; it relied too much on over-used and repeated effects (that let's face it, had been done to death in Inception) and then actual fight scenes were constantly covered up, masking the actual choreography of the fights connecting, and detracting from the kinetic movement.

And the cape bugged the hell out of me.

Again, all IMO - I know I'm in the minority here.

And I never answered, did I? I saw it in 2D.

IIrc, it only happened once in Inception... which is part of why I only saw that movie once (a two?-hour movie about dreams, and basically two effects sequences... yay.)

Then again, with something as big and distinctive as that, once can be 'done to death'! :)

Heh - we are on different opinions. I enjoyed the Cloak. Because to me, that was Doctor Strange's "Symbol" - similar to Cap's shield, Thor's hammer, etc.

And it added some humor in the movie (like when he goes to reach for the axes, and it stops him).
