There are enough mentions of Alpha Flight on CBR that I thought it could be its own thread, rather than a new thread every time. (Then when I wrote the title, I thought I should expand it to any news site).

Today's is the following:
https://www.cbr.com/captain-marvel-doctor-minerva/

Sasquatch is clearly pictured; I assume with Captain Marvel in Civil War II.

Here are another two mentions on CBR:
https://www.cbr.com/wolverine-agent-of-shield/
includes pages from What If...? (vol. 2) #7, which have Mac on them.

Second, but farrr worse:

We all know the answer to the article title's question without reading the article.

Here's an article about Alpha Flight:

I remember watching Red Dwarf when I was younger... incredibly funny series. :)

Le Messor

Yeah! Red Dwarf is a lot of fun.

There's been another Alpha Flight article just a few days later:

(I don't recognise the screen name of whoever who suggested it, and haven't read it yet.)

CBR have just done a top 50 writers and artists:
John Byrne is #15 writer (https://www.cbr.com/comic-book-top-writers-15-11/), but it's his artist listing that's of specific interest:
https://www.cbr.com/comic-book-top-artists-3-1/

The write-up name drops Alpha Flight. (It's nothing more than an off-handed mention, though.)

Le Messor

Here's one I wasn't expecting, and actually disagree with; a list of "Brawn Over Brains – Marvel’s 10 Strongest X-Men":
(What about DC's Strongest X-Men? Huh? Nobody talks about them!)

https://boundingintocomics.com/2019/01/04/brawn-over-brains-marvels-10-strongest-x-men/

The first one (#10) is Northstar. Has he been retconned to have extra physical strength?

I think the key line is "Here are the 10 strongest X-Men currently on rosters"

Le Messor
01-04-2019, 02:56 PM
That could be it - I have no idea who or what's currently on the rosters.

However, the article does estimate he could catch a station wagon…?
Is that true nowadays?

Phil
01-04-2019, 03:05 PM
It seems to be taking some flimsy logic; I wouldn't compare JP to either Captain America or Spider-Man...

Le Messor

'xactly.

And this from an Alpha Flight fan.

… Still, good to get some Alpha love out there.

I can't seem to enter a comment at the end of that article but someone should. The writer of the article completely missed two follow-up stories. Wasn't there a Namor annual where he fought a Plodex hoard and it was supposed to be one or more of the children? Also, the writer says nothing about the 3rd Alpha Flight series and "Mar". I know that it was never actually stated in the series, but the ending certainly suggested that he was one of the children.

Le Messor

I lost my ability to comment on that site years ago (due to changes in how they take comments).

I remember the implication about Mar. Do we know which Namor annual?

About 10 minutes into this video, he talks about Northstar:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glqoiUm5ECQ

According to the CBR Article that Phil linked to above, Alpha Flight: North of 20 Facts About the Canadian X-Men Spinoff, the series was 'often bilingual'. Does anyone know what this is talking about? I remember no more than a couple of words here and there? (Also, Victor Langkowski?!?)

Vindicator gets a mention in this article (https://www.cbr.com/when-did-wolverine-first-actually-cut-someone-with-his-claws/) on CBR. (He's been retconned into the scene with Chasen's tie, but he actually appears lower down in the article.)

And Alpha get their own article here (https://www.cbr.com/wolverine-alpha-flight-john-byrne-original-plans/).

Le Messor

That basically just leaves me confused. I'm not sure the article was saying what Byrne thinks it was saying. (He says Wolverine being leader of AF was nothing more than an idea he'd had, never Marvel's actual plan. I'm not sure the CBR article says anything different.)

This sort of thing makes me glad this thread exists:
https://www.cbr.com/daredevil-infinity-war-doppelganger-hellspawn/
Technically, there's nothing about Alpha Flight in there, but because it's Infinity, they show a lot of panels from the comics, and sure enough that means a lot of pics of Alphans. (Puck, mostly.)

I just ran into this on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwI1n28WYcE).
It's kind of harsh and he doesn't always know what he's talking about, but there it is. (eg: he says the Alpha Flight series never really took off; my understanding has always been that it was very popular back when Byrne had the book.)

More than a mention here:

but I disagree with a bunch of stuff he's saying. (He seems to think the only market for an Alpha Flight movie is Canada. For the record, I was reading Alpha Flight for decades before I ever set foot in Canada!)

Here's an article that might not be too reliable, but is kinda cool:
https://boundingintocomics.com/2019/09/06/rumor-wolverine-vs-hulk-movie-to-introduce-alpha-flight/

Note the Byrne commission of AF fighting Hulk - now in Colour! (I've had the B & W version for a while, never seen it in colour. :D)

In one (or more?) of the podcast that I do (Comic Relief Podcast), I'd mentioned this would be the best way to introduce Mutants into the MCU (since they shied away from Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver as "Mutants"). Essentially have Hulk in Canada, and Wolverine is sent to take him down before he damages Canada. Introduce the Charles Xavier recruiting Wolverine to form a team at the end of the Hulk movie.

Le Messor
01-06-2020, 02:17 AM
It's a good introduction, and keeps with the comics.

My thought is, maybe the mutants should be some of the blips - people who came back after Thanos' snap, but they came back… wrong. With powers, but people are afraid, because they're essentially revenants.

Tawmis
01-09-2020, 12:59 AM
That would be a pretty good way to introduce mutants. The only downside I'd see is it would be because of the Thanos snap rather than "evolution" which, I think is the foundation of the idea of "Mutants" in the Marvel Universe - and keeps that door open for Magneto to be all, "We're Homo Sapiens, the next evolution of human kind - and soon Homo Sapiens will be the servants and slaves to the world of Homo Superior!"

With Northstar showing up saying, "We don't like the derogatory word of 'homo.'"

But didn't see an Alpha Flight mention? Or was there another reference I missed? (Always possible!)
