Wanted to finally make an appearance here. I've been talking with many people from this board over the last year. I am the creator of The Canadian Legion, I felt the time of lurking has past now that Oeming is here, things should get. . .interesting.

Hello all.
NAME: Mike Morgado
BIRTH DATE: November 1973
LOCATION: Sarnia, Ontario, Canada
OCCUPATION: IT (Deskside Technician)
INTERESTS: Comics, Movies, Roleplaying games, TV, cartoons.
BIO: I have lived in Sarnia a majority of my life. Been into comics since I was 12 years old. I have been away from the online Alpha Flight community since 1997 - 1998 or so. I did get volume 2 and 3 though. I have been working at the same job since 1998. I actually love it most of the time. And speaking of love, I am engaged to be married this December 2nd. She doesnt have the same hobbies I do, but she puts up with it from me. We have two cats, Homer and Pete.

Hey, my name's Ellen, and I'm a big time Alpha Flight fan. Granted I am pretty young (i.e. 18 so it's AF is a little old school for me) but I have to admit, I like the classic AF episodes.
Northstar is pretty much the bomb for me. I'm bisexual so I identify with him, that and he's so *****y that it's adorable! I just recently bought #106 and man... That's a work of art right there. I cried when Heather and Kyle are talking about awareness.
Sasquatch and Puck are also pretty fantastic. I love Sasquatch's sex change, probably my favorite idea for a story arc ever. And Puck... He's just bad ass.
Heather. Man. She's quite possibly the best female charecter in the X universe, because she's feminine and yet smart and absolutely capable. Talk about a great escape from Jean Grey!
But yeah, so I hope to post a lot in here in the future.
welcome aboard Effexxor! Feel free to post as much as you like, and don't mind the smell coming out of the cupboard, I think a lurker died in there.

Welcome! Interesting name you got there.
Thanks! It's kind of an old nickname but I use it for everything. Basically my antidepressant used to be Effexor and the livejournal username for that was taken so I added another x. And the name kinda stuck.
I'd give a witty introduction, but standards won't let me.
So I'll say this:
In before 'Omega Flight n00b explosion!'
In all seriousness, I'm very much a n00b. I only really got into comics earlier this year, and I'm following Omega Flight for a variety of reasons, primarily because my boy Beta Ray Bill is on the OF team. And since I run a BRB fansite -but it needs the moar win that only Omega Flight can provide- and all, well... yeah.
I'm gonna admit this: I have NO knowledge of Alpha Flight, but I'm a Level 19 Googlemancer, so I'll learn up on AF quickly so I don't stick out too much around here.
And that's me. Hi!
EDIT: Effexxor, HOLY CRAP you're from Nebraska too?!?!?!?!

Welcome Mek!
Good plan to beat the wave of newbes when OF comes out. When Vol. 3 came it we got hit hard and I'm sure it'll happen again :)
Nice site, I'll add it into the links here if you like, and to the links on AF.net too.

Thank you, both Ben and Legerd for the welcome. =]
Yeah, I've kinda lurked around here and there, but I figured it'd be best to register now. I've been trying to spread the word about OF to my non-comic reading friends, so we'll see what happens there.
And that would be totally awesome! I'll add AF.net to my site's links later today when I get home from class. =]

Hi Alphans, my name's Daz i'm from Australia and i'm currently studying at uni. I recently started reading Omega Flight when I found out BRB would be gracing Marvel's pages again (being a long time Thor fan). Fascinated to learn more I picked up some 80's Alpha back issues from my local 2nd hand book store and have been buying at least 2-3 issues a week since, from the Byrne-Mantlo era. As i'm finding them extremely cheap in my city comic book store. I'm completely obssessed and somehow managing to scrape together bits and pieces of the first series from a number of stores. They're a wonderful team and I can't stop babbling on about them to my friends, housemates and family.. I look forward to reading others thoughts and comments + share my own on the forums! I'm also on the Marvel boards as 'donblake' so look out for me there too and say hi!
Thanks guys, Daz

02-11-2008, 10:56 PM
NAME: S. Michael Simms
BIRTH DATE: July 30, 1975
LOCATION: Indianapolis, Indiana USA
OCCUPATION: Lumberyard Worker
INTERESTS: Singing, Songwriting, Poetry
BIO: I grew up as a U.S. Navy Brat, which means I pretty much traveled all over the USA and even Italy as a kid. I settled down in Indianapolis, Indiana as an adult since the cost of living is relatively low.
My family had very limited funds, so since I couldn't afford comic subscriptions for all my favorite heroes, I collected Marvel Universe Official Handbooks instead which pretty much covered all the bases as far as what every hero and villain had been up to at least till around 1985/86 or so. That's how I fell in love with John Byrne's style of art. I had already taken notice of him during the Secret Wars series, but I became a true fan of his artwork and writing during TOHOTMU run and the Doc Samson/Hulkbusters Hulk stories he did around the same time. It wasn't long afterwards that I was enjoying Alpha Flight, and for some reason that team remained my favorite for good.
I have only been to Canada once— Toronto to be precise. I attended an Al Jolson convention being held there last May. I have to tell you, I absolutely loved it (Toronto that is). Then I watched the second Michael Moore documentary in which he mentions Canada, the first having been "Bowling for Columbine" concerning Canadians' lack of violent crime, the second "Sicko" concerning Canada's (wonderful, in my view) national health care system, and I grew to love it even more. I of course stocked up on touristy items while there and as a nice little bonus had the best hot dog I've ever eaten in my life on the way back...it had like this biscuit twisted around it...my mouth STILL waters thinking about it.
Anyway, I am a singer. I sing and have written several songs as well as performed for several audiences ranging from the dozens to the hundreds. I have a great appreciation for Rush, particularly their "Farewell to Kings" album, but my tastes range far and wide, focusing mainly on those whom I consider to be the penultimate popular representatives of their specific genres, namely Al Jolson, Aerosmith, Mahalia Jackson, Hank Williams Junior, Tchaikovsky, and Stevie Wonder...but really, I love nearly every kind of music. I am also a bit of a poet and enjoy both reading and writing when I can find the time.
I'm a bit sleepy and am boring myself just now, as this conversation is concerning mainly myself, a subject with which I am overly familiar; but please be assured there is far more to me than what I have written here. I hope to get to know many people here and perhaps make a few friends along the way. Thanks to the creators of this site and those who have helped maintain it. Very classy, and very well done.
Live, Love, Laugh & be Happy,

Hiya Ace, welcome to the forum!
Please don't take this as unfriendly in one bit, but uh, Vindicator/Guardian isn't a mutant... If you mean James MacDonald Hudson, he's just a regular guy. If you mean his wife, Heather Hudson, she's just a regular doll, and if you mean Michael Pointer, the guy wearing the Guardian suit from Omega Flight/Marvel Comics Presents, yeah, he's a mutant, but you're not going to make many friends around here saying that he's your fave! Well, I don't mind if he's your fave, whatever, fine with me :) but not everyone else thinks so highly of him. So which Vindicator/Guardian did you mean?

I was a big fan of the original Alpha Flight. I think I was about 13 yrs old when AF got their own comic book, which I loved up until #12. I still have my copy of Alpha Flight #1, X-men #140, and many other AF treasures after all these years.
Between getting older, and the deterioration of the Alpha Flight story after issue #12 ( I continued to read AF for a few years but eventually gave up on it), I had pretty much forgotten about AF for the past few decades.
I recently started remembering the enjoyable times I had reading Alpha Flight as a kid after I read that director Vincenzo Natali expressed interest in making an AF movie. I started browsing the 'net and eventually found this site.

Hi everyone.
Like you I am a huge fan of Alpha Flight.
The first two comics I collected was Marvel Two in One Thing & Sasquatch & Marvel Two in One Thing & Alpha Flight.
I collected Alpha Flight from Vol 1, Issue 1 and have been a fan of the original group ever since.
Unfortunately, with the exception of two issues of X-men, AF V1, 1-4 & 12 We've never seen the original group together.
Maybe it will change...someday!
welcome Sasquatch17! Don't mind the smell in the cupboard, Del spilled a quart of tequila last month. Glad to have you here, enjoy the crazyness!

I just wish Marvel would produce an Alpha Flight comic with the original lineup.
Guess I'll have to be patient.

Hey everyone. Not only am I new to the site, but I'm kinda new to Alpha Flight. I'm Canadian, and a long time comics reader (with a bit of a hiatus in my 20's) but never really felt drawn to the team and as a result, never really read any AF comics. I've felt lately it's my patriotic duty to rectify that situation, and I've even started a blog to chronicle my journey (http://www.department-h.tumblr.com). Looking forward to getting to know the site and the fans who use it.

Hi all,
I hope everyone is doing well.
My name is Randy Belaire, and I am a local author from Pembroke, Ontario. My debut novel, The Resurgence: Chronicles of the Shadow Chaser is now on sale. The novel is of the urban fantasy/neo-pulp/super-hero genre and the first of a two-book series. The protagonist of the story is the Shadow Chaser, a Canadian super-hero/adventurer fighting crime in the city of Toronto. I am looking forward to chatting with you all soon. :)
Cheers,
Randy

Hi Ben,
I hope all is well. Thanks for the kind words. I would say the age range would be between 10 to adult. I know a person who bought the book for his 9-year-old son, and he loved the story.
Cheers,
Randy
Just a quick bump of this thread for anyone visiting us for the first time.

(Did not have time, money, or space to continue and got tired of the continuous X-Book X-overs.) Last year during Vancouver Olympics, ordered the remaining issues of Volume. 1. Refuse to get Volume 3 or Omega Flight. Have a few Wolverine and other tie-ins. Chaos War was the first new comic I have bought in almost 10 years.
Favorites members include: Marrina, Puck, Heather, Northstar, Aurora, Shaman, and Talisman. Not so keen on Persuasion and many of the newer ones. Feel that Marrina has gotten a raw deal and deserves much better than she has been written and I do not accept what the Avengers writer did to her, by turning her into a Leviathan. (Ask me about my theory to get a round that storyline.)

Welcome to the forums! You must love music... not just because of your handle... but in your interests... you mentioned it... twice. :)
So it's an interesting thing (to me) - that you dig some of the newer folks like Persuasion and such... as I was not a fan of them. Other than Witchfire, but I believe that was because of her tie to Belasco, who I fell in love with after Uncanny X-Men #160 (thought that was such a great story!) So... I'd like to hear what you liked about the newer characters... I do WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with you about Marrina and her fate... but then... we see that there's already an easy way around it... in Avengers Volume 3 (Kurt Busiek's relaunch quite a few years ago) when Master appears - if memory serves me right she's seen in one of the tubes...

BIO: Absolutely loved comic books growing up, and after subscribing to Marvel's digital service earlier this year, I read the first 8 issues of Alpha Flight for the first time. I ended up enjoying the next few volumes of it, but I really wanted to read the original run. This week, I found a graphic novel of the first eight, and picked it up. Now, I'm reading all the original 130, and am currently almost to 50. Loving this title, and am super excited to be here for volume 4. I hope it isn't randomly "dark" like most of the stuff Marvel seems to do right now.
I was always a "Marvel" kid, but after discovering "Invincible" from Image, I jumped ship. I sincerely hope this Alpha book will allow me to get back into Marvel.

BIO: One of the first, if not the very first, comics I ever bought was Alpha Flight V1 #13. I was hooked for life on comics in general and AF in particular. My favorite members of the team include Heather and Box (Jeffries) and Persuasion, although I don't dislike any of them. Despite the craziness (or perhaps because of it), I would classify AF #1-86 as some of the finest comics I've ever read. Didn't much care for Volume 2 at the time, though I'll be the first to admit I need to reread and reassess to determine what I think now. Volume 3 was quirky but fun and I cried real tears of joy when the book finally addressed Flashback's fate from the Byrne era. My odd AF fan quirk - I don't really like Mac all that much because I think he should have stayed dead, but I love looking at pictures of him in the suit being all heroic and stuff. Even so, it's weird seeing him lead the team into battle because that is Heather's job...

I'm a game designer, started out in the 80s writing for tablestop RPGs, then designed computer games in California in the 90s, before coming back to Canada and resuming my freelance career. A few years back, I wrote the 5th edition version of Champions of the North for the Champions RPG, and in the 80s I adapted some Alphans for the Gamer's Handbook of the Marvel Universe, so I know enough about adapting Canada to the medium to be really opinionated and obnoxious about it :D Hopefully I won't make too big of a mess. I've lurked on this site for years, but figured this was as good a time as any to join in and be an Alpha geek with you folks. *hides head in shame* I just finally, in the last two years, started on superheroes and supervillians (to date, bronze age Cat Woman, Black Cat, and the Wasp). The next costume on my list (literally) is Aurora's yellow and white costume, especially now that I'm an expert in coiling my hair up and hiding it under the Wasp's short wig!
I wouldn't mind making Snowbird and Talisman in the future though. I've got to get through the three I'm planning (Aurora and two others). And then, I can continue my quest to find someone to be Northstar so that I can make our pair costumes (the original ones). So many costumes, so few people to understand what they are!

You'll have to post pics. Is that the Catwoman with the green cape, or the one with the actual cat mask?

Hi Everyone,
I've just found this site after getting interested in my old comic books again. I have most of the first 62 issues of Alpha Flight and the first two annuals. I also have the Cat's-Paw Marvel Role Playing module. The first time I saw members of Alpha Flight were in the old Dragon magazine. I've included a pic below since I noticed the article wasn't in the TSR RPG thread.

If anyone would like to see the rest of the article I can post it here. My humble abode is in Connecticut. As far as other interests. I collect Star Wars action figure prototypes, Led Zeppelin memorabilia, and own a restored Plymouth E Body 'Cuda Barracuda.

I'd be very interested in seeing the rest of the article if you can post it. I've heard of the Cat's Paws RPG before, but still don't know much about it.
P.S. - Great pic of Guardian & Box.

Hey Robert, welcome to alphaflight.net! That image you posted is from an article by Jeff Grubb, who also wrote the Cat's Paw module, published in Dragon Magazine #97 (May 1985). The article is in a series of "Marvel-Phile" entries which contain additional character info to supplement the MSHRPG from TSR. That issue has character info for Talisman (Elizabeth), Box (Roger) and Guardian (Mac). It's a three-page article with a preceding fourth page featuring a full-page splash of Talisman from the cover of Alpha Flight #19 (with Heather, Shaman, Puck and Snowbird in the background) as the main illustration for the sci-fi gaming section of the magazine. A smaller b/w thumbnailed inset in the section describes the splash page and credits John Byrne for the art.
According to the text of the character bios and the May 1985 cover date, that issue was contemporaneous with Alpha Flight #23 or so. Wow, another long-time fan joins us!
I hope you didn't actually rip out that page, Robert! Your scan looks nice and clean but the left edge looks quite jagged and the right-side hole punches are puzzling because that's a right hand page, unless someone made loose-leaf bound books of the Marvel-Phile pages and arranged it that way. I too have very high quality scans of those pages if anyone is interested. I also have a text version of the article for some reason.
Check out Dragon magazines #106, #107, #176 and #181 for additional Marvel-Phile columns with more Alpha Flight characters and updates. They're fairly hard to find with covers in good condition but the paper quality from back then was very high and over time they have held up great, so even if you get a somewhat beat-up copy your interior pages should still look terrific.
Welcome again to the boards!
Love,

Aww, have a Heart.
Hmm.. are they original illustrations?
The signature & date would suggest so, but they're very much in the style of handbook entries...
Nice little index of the issues here (http://www.thegameguild.net/books/12-Other%20Campaign%20Settings/Other%20Editions/Dragon%20Magazine/).

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for the kind welcome. Yes, I dismantled the Dragon magazines in my younger days. I had quite a few but a after a while they took up too much space so I performed a quick rip and destroy surgery on the collection. I still have a couple. I kept the MSH articles including a couple of more articles on Omega Flight, which are in the other thread. Here's the rest of the article:

Thanks for the warm welcome Le Messor. It means a lot :)
What brought me here is wanting to know if there were any Canadian superheroes. There had to be more than just Wolverine. Once I found Alpha Flight i looked into it and really liked it. I liked it even more when I noticed I could definitely dress up at Puck. That's my next goal on the list.
