With the Weapon X program.

Oh ya I read a few issues of that series I'm surprised the comic is still around. He seems like such a wimp in it. Or at least he did.

Ben

It's not that he's a wimp, it's that he's pretty mentially disturbed. He's been through a lot, and the final straw for him was seeing the woman he lovedd (aurora) tortured by Sabertooth. The Weapon X program "under the old director" didn't exactly encourage him to heal, but rather twisted that weakness into a means of controlling him.

Wild Child should be more like Sabretooth or Wolverine. Different yes but in his own way. Hes more lith and that should be incorporated into his character more. And he should be able to stand up to anyone including Sabretooth.

I think a lot of it comes down to confidence. Kyle has been through so much over the years, that his mind has suffered. I'm sure he could stand up to Sabertooth (though probably no win) were that he believed he could. However he's been beaten down so much, he doesn't have it in him. Perhaps if he had some help with his mental issues, he might be okay, but the problems over the years have taken thier tole.

Richv1

Yes maybe it is Marvel who should look at changing his character back to more like it used to be at the begining. He may not have been able to beat Sabretooth but at least he wasn't afraid to fight him. I liked his character when he first started out. Not now though.

I have to agree that he is not as good a character as he was previously. My favourite stage of his "developement" was as Weapon Omega. He was a tough fighter, he was clever, but had some innter turmoil. It was actually Scott Lobell that wrote him like that, and that was my favorite part of his short fun on Alpha Flight volume 1.

I to liked him as Weapon Omega to me that was similair to how he started out just a little bit more civilized. I like seeing any of the wild savage heroes and villians showing that they can control their inner beast.

His issues of X-Factor, and the Sabretooth 'Back to nature' one shot pretty much confirm this.

I agree with a lot of points here. Wild Child is one of my favorite Alpha Flight/Marvel characters. I enjoy his time with Alpha and with X-Factor. I wish he would be returned to his former self. At least give the guy some hair!! It's a shame people consider him just "Sabertooth-lite"!!

Richv1

Yes Wild Child needs to get out from under Sabretooth's shadow. Wolverine and Sabretooth are similar but each is his own person. Wild Child needs the same thing. I would love to see him in the pages of Alpha Flight and out of that Weapon X group. Him and Aurora should both leave and be put back to there former glory.

Richvol1:

I agree 100%!! Get all the Alphans out of Weapon X. On a side note, If Marvel is telling Lobdell not to use Northstar, how long has it been since we've seen Northstar in the pages of Uncanny?? He'd be better utilized in the Alpha Flight book, just my opinion.

Richv1

I would love to see the twins back together again. Flying circles around all the others. Northstar with his attitude. I wonder if Sasquatch would try to rekindle his romance with Aurora if she were around.

Does Alpha know what's goin' on with Aurora and Wild Child right now? I'd love to see them flip out and get in a big fisticuffs with the Weapon X peeps. But only if the term fisticuffs in involved.

In regards to the current use of Aurora, Wild Child, Northstar and Madison Jeffries, they are all claimed by other writers, however they are parts of books are about to be totally revamped. I won't be supprised to see them come available to Lobell to lay claim on them.

I'd like to see Alpha Flight go back and reclaim its own from Weapon X. Walter could change back Aurora maybe even help Wild Child.

While it's quite feasable for Aurora and Maddy to make their way to AF, I get the impression that Wildchild is pretty much an integral member of Weapon X and will be there for a while. As re Nortstar, I can't see what purpose he serves in the X Teams, Austen seems to have gotten bored with him already.

Waiting to se what Reload brings.

Ben
04-18-2004, 07:04 PM
Yah, I think a lot will hinge on the reload. Northstar returning to AF could be areally good thing, in that X-Fans that liked him in the book (and I know there are lots of them), who may have never been into AF before, could well be drawn to Alpha Flight to get thier Northstar fix. He certainly does seem to have a loyal following ;) {northstar}

For a fictional character, he's pretty hot. He'll bring in the "hag" audience that Alpha so sorely needs into comic book stores.

Richv1

Does Northtar's popularity have anything to do with his sexuality? Not that theres anything wrong with that.

gorejeja
04-18-2004, 10:47 PM
Yes, no, maybe so. I like JP because he's gay. As a hag, it's on the top of my list of criteria when I determine what I think is cool, though it isn't necessary ;)

Was he a popular character before he came out? I wasn't reading yet.

Dunno, but I liked him.

Sadly, the rumor is that Northstar is going to be going back into Limbo, as homosexual men aren't family friendly enough for Marvel's all-age books. I'm hoping this is a pile of steaming something or other, but I don't know.

I'm pretty sure that if Northstar was put into Limbo, Scott would be quick to take him back to Alpha. Scott was the one who wrote issue 106 (the coming out issue), so he's obviously got no fear of writing a gay character.

Northstar can NOT be allowed to go into comic limbo. If he does we have to start a campaign to get him reinstated to AF pronto!!!!

There is a rumour about the whole gay thing being the reason for ditching the character but there are other gay characters who are still in X-Titles. I think when they all disapear that's when we start to worry.

I'm sure in one of his interviews, Scott Lobdell said he has no plans for Northstar at present. Plus with talk of marvel trying to re-gather the younger audience having a homosexual character in such a high profile comic as the X-Men may not appeal to Marvel ed.

I've always been of the impresion that Northstar is an Alphan and will always remain so, his flirting with the X-Men was nice, but he is Alphan.

As for Wildchild, unfortunately a lot of damage to the character has been done and a lots will probably have to be undone to see him as an Alphan again.

Weapon Omega

I agree with DelBubs. I think Wild Child is in Weapon X to stay, unfortunately for us. I hope Northstar either comes "over" to Alpha or gets more time in the X-Books. Northstar's appearance is the reason I got back into Uncanny in the first place.

Richv1

I definitely want Northstar back in Alpha. I saw him as an X-Men and its not where he belongs. If he is not being used there put him back in Alpha.
I don't think his being gay should make any difference whether Marvel uses him or not. Its part of his character but so what.

From what I've read the writers were more than happy to use Northstar after the X Re-load but were told that they couldn't! This strikes me as rather odd.

At the end of the day Northstar belongs in Alpha Flight and that's where I'd ultimately like to see him go. However it just wouldn't be the same having Northstar without Aurora so if he comes back then so should she!

Richv1
04-19-2004, 08:40 PM
Yep bring them both back. Maybe have a limited series about them both leaving each team they are now with and finding each other them coming back to Alpha. Now we just need Marvel to do it.

I think one reason that Northstar has been lost in the Uncanny X-men group is that him being gay was a main point of the character. It was one of the reasons Xavier recruited him and the first storyline was about Jean-Paul crushing on Iceman. Then throw him with a bunch of girls at Polaris' bachelorette party (Which I hated because even though Jean-Paul is gay I've never seen him as girly enough to go to a bachelorette party). There is so much more to the character than his sexual orientation and that's all that Austen had in mind for him. For shame. I like him better in New Mutants where he's the hard-assed teacher.

I did enjoy his humor in UXM... Jean-Paul was always good for poking fun at someone that needed it. Like during Dominant Species, when he came to round up other X-Men to help out Warren and Paige. Good stuff. :) But you're right about the bachelorette party... JP even went to Madison's bachelor party with the rest of the boys instead of going to Lil's party, so when did he get so girly? Austen's an idiot. BTW, would anyone else besides me love to see Northstar get a solo series for a while (maybe a 12-issue limited) where he gets to tromp around with Hector? They just look so good together in their Speedos. :D

Richv1
04-25-2004, 11:43 PM
No thanks on men in speedos. But the 12 issue series sounds great. I suppose you could throw some romance in for him.
I agree about the bachette party to he shouldn't have been at it. Northstar is tough he may be gay but hes still a man. Hes definitely not a panty waist and shouldn't be at all girl parties.

NO!! That's not even funny!

What would be even better than Northstar in a limited series would be Northstar and Aurora in a limited series. I wonder now that the two have been apart for awhile now if JP would still be just as overly protective of Aurora.

Austen sent JP to Polaris' bacelorette party?? No wonder everyone hates that guy's writing.

I agree. I was excited to see Northstar in a monthly book again! A Northstar/Aurora mini-series would be great to see. I could see it as a four to six issue series. That would also generate more interest in the new Alpha series! At least in my humble opinion.

Richv1

So if Aurora and Madison are now on the run from Weapon X where could they run to? Hmmmm maybe North.

DelBubs
04-27-2004, 07:57 PM
At present tey both remain in thrall to the original Director, but hopefully Weapon X #22 will bring some closure to that particular state of affairs. Don't know about anyone else, but I haven't seen any indication that they will be regular in any book after Reload.

Richv1

That is to bad if the characters fade away into limbo. To many great characters have to be replaced by ones that are not as good.
