In light of dropping sales, I'm endeavoring to start a new mini-site focused on a campaign to keep Alpha Flight out from under the Axe of Marvel. I will be looking to get as much publicity for the site as I can, and will need everyone's help on that. If you write articles for an other site, plug it. If you have your own site, link to it. People are talking AF on a board you visit, or a mailing list you are part of, talk about it.

That being said, I need to name this campaign. Any suggestions?

Fight for the Flight!

I mod a site with over 40,000 active users. I think I can use my influence there to generate some activity.

I'm not so good at naming usually. "Fight for the Flight" is good.

But just to give out ideas to spur people to outdo me:

Awesome Flight 8)

Don't X the Flight :)

Flight Savers :?:

"Fight for the Flight" sounds good. Although I suggest the dropping of 'the' so it would become:

FIGHT FOR FLIGHT

I dunno...whatever works. :)

"Fight for the Flight" sounds excellent. I'd definitely go for it!

Hope this campaign works. I'd hate to see Alpha cancelled a third time.

looks like Fight for the Flight is unanonmous then. I definitely like the sound of it and plan to do so with this next issue.

I'm heading out of town next weekend to a mate's place so I may as well get two of them!

That's the spirit! I know who I'm gonna give one to this week, my buddy that I used to trade books with when we were little. One night last year we got all drunked up and I explained the entire history of AF to him, I can get him hooked no problem ;)

Fight for the Flight it is. The page should be up tonight. Most of the graphic work is done, and I've got the layout figured out. It's just a matter of finishing the content and uploading.

Good idea Varo, I'll be sure to send both him and Clayton the addy when it's up.

The best way to make sure Alpha Flight doesn't get cancelled is to increase its sales. Buying an extra copy for someone you know that might like it is a great idea. I know a 10 yr old boy that loves comics but can't afford them. I've given him a few so I can give him an Alpha Flight as well as getting my own.

Ok folks, I seem to have the bulk of the work done. Please visit: http://save.alphaflight.net/ and do everything you can to spread the word.

If you have any suggestions, or if you see any problems, let me know. I ended up playing with php a bit for this, and I haven't done so in a while, so I may have missed a few things ;)

I wanna see you all sign the petition, and I want any one with sites to put a link banner up, and give me your URL when you do so I can add it to the support list.

done done done and done!

I may just have a little live journal for a webpage, but it's viewed by 63 mates, so they can spread the word too! I know some of them are hardcore comic nuts like me and hate to see when a fave title disappears.

I've signed the petition and sent an e-mail to Marvel. Hopefully, this might help. Thank you, Ben, for creating the "Fight for the Flight" website. This gives us a chance to show our support, and perhaps to make a difference! :D

I'm on a fairly active comic discussion board, do you have a small banner I could stick in my sig?

Seriously, I reckon that if you have a page/forum/email list of any kind that you regularly visit, that you can get the word out to at least one individual. Not a lot admittedly but that's one more person who is interested and may start getting the book themself.

Or if you have kids in the area or neices/nephews and you want to encourage them reading? I personally reckon comic books are a good start. I know parents cringe at the idea but hey? at least the kid is reading SOMETHING instead of going through life illiterate.

Where outside comics would kids learn words like megolamaniac?

Ben, I've added a link to my Alpha Flight page using the image you've created. If you want to check it out, follow the AF link in my signature. I'm going to be adding a blurb to it before the site is done. As of right now, the site is still under construction...

Cheers,

My plan is to keep pestering them to add Alpha Flight to their Subscriptions list! Hell how can they expect their new titles to take off if you can't even order it for home delivery from their site or the back of any of their products. I've seen the X-titles and Spidey recently for as low as $13.50 a year. Gotta ask yourself if it's a ploy to inflate the numbers on those titles. I know a lot of folks are getting tired of the dribble they get in those tietle now. If Alpha were offered at those rates I'd get a subscription for all of my nieces and nephews. I'd even do it at the cover price, but they don't offer it! It's a conspiracy I tell ya! And I'm gonna bug them until they fix it! Fight for the Flight! Fight for the Flight! Fight for the Flight! <puts down pom poms and exits stage left>

Barny!

The fact is, just buying a second copy from a speciality store won't help.

We need to order mulitple copies, in advance, through the Marvel/Diamond previews system, which your retailer uses. The more customer orders they have the better, rather than just buying loose shop stock copies.

Ben
08-10-2004, 06:23 PM
Well, in theory it would make a diff though. If the stock in a store on a book runs out, they can order more, and they will also be more likely to order a greater number the next time around. Can individuals order directlly from diamond? It would certainly help as Tom says if Marvel had AF on thier subscription list.

Also buy giving a copy to a friend, you are potentially making a new fan to buy more books down the road. If they come to care enough about the book, they will do the same. it's a chain reaction :)

Yeah, but with only 4 more issues to be solicited (before 12, the possible final issue), and a 3 month advance; by the time #6's sales figures have come in retailers will be ordering for #10.

If retailers dont see that their stock is increasing untill issue 8 has sold, then it could well be too late.

We need high orders NOW.

Pre-ordering is the answer.

Ben
08-10-2004, 06:42 PM
How do you mean pre-ordering? I looked on the Diamond site and couldn't find any place to do it from there. Or do you mean to pre-oder from a comic shop? Or from an online store?

Ben

Phil

Either a comic store, or an online store.

Most comic stores will have a customer reservation service, with a pull list that you can add titles to.

In most cases you'll get a folder number or something, and they'll reserve your comics for you each month, rather than you just pulling them off the shelf.

These customer orders are usually added on top of the casual shelf orders, so the more people have standing orders the better.

Plus this way you'll never miss an issue.

Ben

heh, I got you now, and that's exactly what I do...at 2 comic shops ;)

If anyone has yet to sign the Petition, please do so. Currently in about 2.5 days of existance we have 32 signatures, and 320 hits. As soon as the petition hits 50 signatures I'm going to start writing to Marvel about the site. From that point I will send a follow up letter every 25 sigs.
