View Full Version : What Alpha Flight goodies do you have?
Over the years I've manged to gather a few neat AF collectable items. I'm wondering what interesting things others may have.
Currently I have the following:
AF Volum 1 #1 signed by John Byrne
AF Volume 2 #1 signed by Steve Seagle
AF Volume 3 #1 signed by Scott Lobdell
AF Volume 3 #1 signed by Clayton Henry
The origonal printing sheet of AF volume 2 #7 page 1 and 2 (the intro pages that hav ethe characters bios with the summery of the privous issue) It's composed of 4 plastic transparency sheets with different colours making up the full coloured image. There is also marker pen writing by Jay Gardner informing the printers that the sunfire headshot needs to be coloured, as it's just in B&W.
I have a convention picture of Sasquatch that Del and Phil got me, I can't remember the artist's name just now, but was an Exiles artist.
I won't bother listing toys and such as they can be gotten easily enough. Though I do have all the Beanz toys and a good pile of the Hero Clix. I'm sure I've forgotten things as I have so much stuff neatly packed away from having moved a lot in the past 10 years.
So what do you all have?

AF #53 Signed by Jim Lee
AF #128 Signed by Simon Furman
AF #129 Signed by Simon Furman
AF #130 Signed by Simon Furman
And thats about it, I use to have the original T-Shirt, but that went somwhere many moons back.
Ben, I believe the artist was Liam Sharp

At this point I have absolutely nothing of real value, despite the fact that I think my Volume 1 #1 was signed by Byrne (I really can't tell if the signature is authentic, and it was in pretty nasty condition, around Good quality or so when i got it)...
My plan is to figure out which artists and writers I'll be able to meet in the next year or so, find really quality prints of those issues and then seek those people out to get the signatures... so hopefully not long from now I can pull some up. I have some other goodies, but unfortunately no Alphas yet.

My most exciting AF stuff is / are the toys I recently won online. I got the 1999 series still on the cards for like $25 US including the shipping. A friend of mine in the States also found me both Marvel Legends Sasquatches. Now if I could find the Toyfare Exclusive Guardian I'd be really stoked. :D

All I gots is the action figures from way back.
I consider my copy of X-Men #109 to be my prized AF item being the big Mac fan that I am (get it, Big Mac).

Personalized Northstar sketch by John Byrne "autographed" by Jean-Paul. The sketch itself is lovely, but it was that last touch that just tickled me to death.

You HAVE to scan that for the rest of us to see.
My goodies include original art from vol. 1 issue 4 . Page includes Namor, Sue Richards, and the Team in a Sue Richards bubble.
I have another page from Vol. 1 issue 19.
I have "appearance sketches" around here from Dave Ross which include Box(unused design form Marvel Age annual), Aurora, Northstar, Shaman, and Talisman plus I have a couple pages of original art from him I'd have to check which ones. I know it's the one where Pesty is grabbing the tiara off Talisman's forehead. When I verify the pages I'll post it.
i have a Jim Lee autographed ish (Purple man) ; a kevin nolan(sp?) signed ish.
Also on it's way I just won the TSR Cat's Paw role playing game from ebay.

The best Alpha Flight related thing I have are my friends on this board, who love Alpha Flight just like I do.
By the way, thanks to everyone, for making this board so awesome.

What I don't have but really want if I ran across one was the penant advertised in the "classified" pages of Marvel Comics during Byrne's run.

I have a sew-on patch based on the cover of v1 #14, with Heather swimming. Also a card based on Marrina vs Namor a couple of #s later.
But this thread always brings up a horrible memory for me. The time I was just starting to collect, and I saw the original artwork for UXM #120 for sale, and didn't buy it.
I didn't know what it was (I knew, but didn't know). Also, it was pricey.

I have so many Alpha Flight goodies that I can hardly begin to list them! But I'll try, (hope I don't forget any):
four AF T-shirts from the 80's: yellow, (with the classic Byrne team); blue, (with the Byrne team circa volume 1, # 24); black, (with Shaman and Snowbird); and white, (with the Mignola team)
a complete set of the AF action figures, (Vindicator and Sasquatch, Snowbird and Puck, Northstar and Aurora), with the Toyfare Guardian and "Reverse Guardian" (circa Volume 1, #93 or so) thrown in
Guardian bust
Sasquatch bust, (not Bowen, but that's on order, along with the Snowbird and Vindicator --Heather-- busts)
capeless Snowbird figure
Snowbird Heroclix
Snowbird "bean"-type character, (forget what it's called)
some John Byrne convention sketches from the early 80's:
Shaman and Snowbird, (sketch by John Byrne, inked by Terry Austin)
Aurora, (pencil sketch)
my fan character, Beta (my then-conception for Mac Hudson's niece)
Snowbird meets Beta, (head sketch)
Anne McKenzie and Beta, (head sketch)
I hope that I may be able to send these to Alphanet soon! (I did try to photocopy the Aurora sketch, but it came out too light.)
I have nothing but a couple of Byrne signatures on a couple of Vol. 1 issues. I have all the action figures.

Wow! Seeing everyone's lists, I didn't realize there was so much Alpha stuff out there.
It's hard to think of everything, as much of it's packed away, but here are a few notables:
Mignola team print on comic board, 190/230, 1986
-This is my most prized Alpha possession. I picked it up, like, ten years ago. I believe it was part of a larger print set, but haven't been able to find much info on the others.
Byrne Editions Deesse Portfolio, 1993
- Wolverine print, signed, 1727/3500
- Cyclops print, features Shaman, Snowbird, Twins
Fastner/Larsen Print, 1983
- X-Men vs. Alpha
Alpha Flight Poster, Byrne
- Large image of Puck with the other Vol. 1 members all around him
T-Shirt
- Yellow, features the team image from Marvel Age #2
- a few other prints (covers from Strange in France)
- Mega-Beanz
- original toys, including Toyfare Guardian
- multiple cards, including a mid-80's Marvel set reprinting images from the comic
There may be others. I'm not as much of a completist anymore, but I'll post anything else I remember.
Cheers,
-Mike

Well, today I finally got my issues in... Uncanny 121 in fairly decent condition... AF1 signed by Byrne... not too much, but the best I can manage at this point... I may actually be getting a guest appearance signed in the near future, but I don't count on it. I also got some other non-AF stuff today, a couple of Claremont signings, Excalibur and Wolv/Kitty... its a start.

I just have toys and comics mainly. I was pretty excited about getting both versions of the Sasquatch Marvel Legends action figure. I have the t-shirt from the Wolverine cover, some Beanz, Hero Clix, and the old action figure both loose and on the card (had to open one set up to play with, especially Puck). Looking at the artwork though....I just might have to pick up some of Clayton's stuff. Not bad on the pricing, and some nice pieces still there.

Sas has arrived! I love it. Great to look at, but wonderful feeling the weight in your hands. It didn't come with a box, but then who wants to sit it in a box. It's much cooler out in the open where folks can see it and comment on it. Unfortunately my wife's comment was, "You're gonna put that ugly thing there?" To which I replied, " You bet your ass!" My kids are much kinder with, "Cool! Can you get me one?"
For now he is sitting on a shelf above my computer, protecting me from spam, pop ups, and viruses....or maybe he's just sitting there looking cool and the software is doing the rest. At any rate ............

Wow, you guys really are amazing with these ebay finds... I never find anything I'm interested (unless the auction has already passed time)... anything that I would be interested in is usually way out of my price range... of course, not having any substantial income of my own also reduces my bidding ability significantly... it sucks that some of these items are unique and thus many of them won't ever appear on the market again... in 10 years, I would like to have made some of these grabs.
EDIT: I do have my eye on a thing or two right now, just got to make sure I've got a green light to get it/them.

Nice sangs, folks! I saw the Cat's Paw module, but I think I already have it tucked away in a long box somewhere. And rplass, you are gonna love the Sasquatch mini bust. The picture is great, but once you feel can put your hands on it and heft its weight the experience becomes so much more!!! I think Phil has the top score with the cheap artwork.

I had sent a Best Offer, but got no response. So I figured I'd bite the bullet and used the Buy It Now option. I sent Best Offers on the other two color guides yesterday. I have a feeling those will not be responded to either. I may Do Buy It Now on one of those, but I doubt I'll do both. And if anyone should beat me to it then so be it, cause I already got one! Now I have to find a frame that is fitting of my newest acquisition.
I picked up some frames from Larry Peterson, from The Paper Framer. He specializes in frames specifically for comics and comic art. You can switch out the items easily. So if you want to display one piece for a few months, then rotate in the other pieces, you only need 1 frame. He's a real nice guy, too, very quick delivery. I recommend using him for comic art. If you use a colored frame, ask him for a sample first to make sure you are getting the right color.
His site is www.thepaperframer.com

Well I scored a full run of volume 2 plus the '98 annual for $28 shipped. I'm only missing a few issues of volume 3, but they're not exactly a rush-out-and-purchase item these days.
I finally received my loose set of Toy Biz figures too. I have to say they're a pretty mixed bag. I think Snowbird and Sasquatch are really nicely done. Useful articulation, good sculpting and fun toys. Vindicator, Northstar and Aurora all LOOK good, but are sculpted in really strange poses. I can't even get Northstar or Aurora to look natural standing around. The Toyfare Guardian figure is easily the best of the bunch. I think the team really needs a Shaman to look complete though. :(
The team looks pretty good on my display shelf, but I'm thinking about sacrificing my Puck to the knife. I think I might be able to frankenstein him so proper joints and be in scale with my planned 4" customs. Next up there will either be Guardian or Shaman. I have to cast around through my parts box.
Speaking of customs, I had my Nemesis completely painted and ready for reassembly. The legs and hips had been sprayed with the topcoat, so I thought to do the same to the upper body and head yesterday. But...I can't FIND them. I think I *gulp* threw them away by accident! I have no idea how I could have been so stupid, but I looked all over the place and can't find them. So I have to go to the TRU and buy another figure to redo the whole upper body. It's not the expense that annoys me, but all the work I'd done. She's not a difficult paintjob, but I don't like doing things twice.
The Puck one's almost as bad as the AOA Wildchild toy....

Well, v3 is available in two relatively cheap trades. May as well pick them up instead.

Of course, my White and Orange Legends Sas are doing their best (well, my best) imitation of the front cover to #23.

I have some good stuff:
X-Men 109, 120, 121, 139, 140
Alpha Flight #1 signed by Byrne
The action figures, including Guardian. I would love a Shaman to go with them.
Most of the Heroclix. I customized a Guardian and Shaman. My Shaman is standing, and pulling out his latest trick from the medicine bag.
Bowen busts of Guardian (Mac) and Sasquatch.

Whoa boy. Rather than answer here, I'll point you toward a thread discussing the prices. Ben posted them, most of the way down this page. I so wanted to join in this discussion at the time, but I'm glad I held my tongue, for fear of looking like someone that joined just to chew people out (which would have been true).

Yeah! Too rich for my blood! I guess I'll have to remain a drooler! It'd be damn nice to have one though!
Guess I'll stick to mini busts, action figures, and comics. I'm slowly picking up the Heroclix and Beanz, too. And I do have a nice color guide from Heather's first appearance in the suit in a Danger Room setting. I think it's issue #32.

Hey folks just adding to my list. For father's day I got my Vindicator (Heather) bust. For the number watchers #549. Nice looking sculpture and decently painted until they let the blind moron do the black shadow airbrushing. Way to dark and haphazard. They should have used a lighter colour for the shadowed areas like on the Guardian bust. But I'm nitpicking she's still great.
Ben and Allan did you guys reap some early father's day benifits???

heh, not in a comic book type of way, at least directly. Apparently - and this I was told today, Father's Day, so I count it as one - anywhoo, apparently, the family has agreed unanimously that some time in the next few years we ARE moving to the Greater Vancouver Area so I can go to art school to get credential to become a cartoonist, one way or another... to me that's a REALLY big father's day gift :D
Btw, Shawn, on that same note, I kinda need your help with an off-panel project. contact me off list in the usual methods please.

Sounds really cool.

No other place that I know of besides ebay. But I've seen them on ebay quite a bit. Just be patient and I'm sure you could probably purchase the enitre first volume for under $60 bucks.
About a year ago I picked up the entire run of vol. 1 for something like $40 or so That was including Annuals and others stuff, something like 160 comics all together. I've seen these types of lots on ebay fairly regularly.

Your best bet is probably to buy the lot and then turn around and sell what you don't need. It'll be much cheaper on ebay than anywhere else. And if you can't sell them, donate them to a local elementary or middle school. Might grow a new fan of the team and help keep Omega Flight going past 5 issue mini.

four AF T-shirts from the 80's: yellow, (with the classic Byrne team); blue, (with the Byrne team circa volume 1, # 24); black, (with Shaman and Snowbird); and white, (with the Mignola team)
Yeah I saw the blue one on ebay last week, I really have been wanting that one, because I honestly thought that was the best team, when Heather was still in everyday clothes, Boches actually controlled box... it was just an overall great Team IMO but the two on sale over ebay were mediums and larges and I want a small..BLAST

Alphan East, looks like some mix'n'match there - Aurora, Northstar, Vindicator, Puck and Snowbird from the 1998(?) Toybiz double packs, minus the owl. Sasquatch is the regular 2005 Marvel Legends version and the Guardian is the Toyfare mail-away bonus figure. Nice! The Sasquatch that came with the Toybiz double pack (with Vindicator) was only a tiny bit taller than the other figures, so it's a good thing you subbed him out for the taller one. Love it!

I was going to correct you that they're all from the Toybiz line (except the Guardian, who wasn't in it), but you're right of course. I've just checked my collection and...
Wait... where did that Guardian figure come from? Was there a Marvel Legends Guardian?

It's hard to look at it and figure out anything missing, but there are two editions of that first one (you have at least three things that have the first X-Men / AF mini in them...), and I believe v4 was split into two tpbs.

Has anyone heard if they're going to compile the current Hulk "Mayan Rule" arc into a TPB... I'd like to pick that one up as well.

I picked up a great copy of UXM #121 today. I mean great. I've seen hundreds of copies of this book at countless shops and conventions up and down the East Coast and have never seen one as nice as this. Never bought a slabbed book before but once it was in my hand I knew I had never seen a better copy in my life and probably never will so I snagged it.

All I have is the Fear Itself Alpha Flight series in print hanging up on my wall and a few olders ones as well. This picture is amazing haha. I can understand it as well. You don't make much money as a teacher, his side jobs and current work with Marvel must be what's making him the money.

Now I kind of feel bad I got him to sign so much haha
Nah, if he had a real problem I'm sure he'd say, or charge per signature like others.

They uped the cost for Stan Lee, and he didn't even show today which I was pretty annoyed about. Think it was $65 per signature

Did the dog come with the costume, or were they separate?

Wow! :) I have the original of the issue (I did want to find a copy of #121, which I don't have, in Vancouver, but didn't). Mine is by no means in Mint condition, but even if it was, I wouldn't try to sell it for that much.
OTOH, I looked up a CD the other day on Amazon and watched the prices creep up. After two pages, it was worth $30. Then there were four copies for over $1k each, then one for $2k.
I'll probably get one of the ones that was about $5.

My copy of #120 is the UK version (price in pence rather than cents) so I'd like to be able to get the US one oneday but I'd never pay anywhere near that.

My puppy wearing her Alpha Flight tag.
She's wearing an Alpha Flight collar I made her, too, you just cannot see it in the pic.
Srs puppeh is srs. Her lip is caught on her tooth, she really doesn't have an uneven mouth.
