Dan Slott had a fun take on the Fruit Pies once in the Spiderman/Human Torch mini. The Red Ghost was trying to steal the SpiderMobile, and Spidey stopped him by throwing a bunch of Fruit Pies at the Super Apes. With them distracted, he stopped the Red Ghost easily, and Spidey threw the Fruit Pie idea up to the marketing guys that gave him the SpiderMobile.

Considering that Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley introduced one of the Hostess Fruit Pie Villians, Icemaster (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/icmstr.htm), in Thunbderbolts, there's room to argue that ALL the Hostess Villians are now in continuity.
