View Full Version : Persuasion-- The Girl in Purple

So, I'm new to this forum, and also new to the love of Alpha Flight (and all its incarnations). I know the original team from Uncanny X-men, but not much beyond that.

Persuasion. She's a girl who is purple. She seems pretty cool, but I don't quite understand her powerset.

Does she have to make skin contact with a person for her to take over someones mind? Does she still have to verbally command people? How does someone break free of the control? So many questions about her.. so little time :D

Hiya NorthernLights, welcome to the loonie-bin, make yerself at home in the cupboard, don't let nasty things certain unnamed editors have set scare you off.

As for you question, first I encourage you to have a look here: http://alphanex.alphaflight.net/index.php/Persuasion

To answer you question briefly, she does not need to make contact, just has to in close proximity with air contact. She has always used verbal commands to execute her commands, in theory it's not required. To break control, they have to be separated from her proximity, being dunked under water does the trick too.

I'm pretty sure she just has to speak. She has a cousin named Murmur that has to touch in order to control someone. How they are cousins, nobody knows lol.

When has it been revealed Murmur and Persuasion were related?

Seagle said it after the book was cancelled. People may not considered "canon" but I do.

Thought it was an interview, he even said Flex was Wolverine's sin.

I think he teased that he might be his son, but didn't come right out and say it. I think.

Edit: Wolvie suposed to discover his son in Origins, isn't he? Flex never lost his powers during HoM. Hmmmm 8)

From what I saw at one site, Wolverine's son doesn't have Flex's powers and doesn't look like him. But then again, Flex isn't real so one can make him look like anything and have any kind of powers after M-day. Not like Sasquatch looks different with every artist.

I doubt it's Flex anyway.

Welcome, NorthernLights!

The son from Origins is definetly not Flex, he has a blue mohawk (forget what color it was and could be dyed.) and is a murderous monster. I'm pretty sure it's just a new character

But then again the art in volume 2 seemed to change with every issue, so who REALLY knows what Flex lookedl ike, for all we know he COULD have had a blue mohawk!

You know I've always wondered if Persuasion and Murmurs powers would work on deaf people.

Both of their powers are pheromone based IIRC, so im also kinda wondering of they work on just poeple or if it would work on aliens and animals, since they have a different biochemistry. Or people who couldnt smell.

sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.. The powers didn't work on goblyn I know that and many alients she couldn't...actually coem to think of it i dn't knwo when she ever used it on a non-human host.. then again it always seems that she can't use it against anyone when ever the team actually NEEDS her too lol

Persuasion later in vol.1 didn't need verbal commands to control people, she even mind-linked with the crystal planet. She did have troubles controlling Asgardian trolls for an extended period of time though.

I could take Arlette being related to Persuasion better than a real movie director and a mom who apparently has abandoned her. Please don't clamor for this character to come back until someone thinks through her backstory.

Arlette who? Murmur who?

I'm trying to forge that character, she really was an insult.

she was the begenning of Alpha Flight's attempt at an x-factor or one of those small teams of new comers

the thing that has really bothered me.. is the made Laura Autistic... but yet she doesn't display any sign of autism at all... infact the big backstory about her has her careing for others and she always is trying to help... that is the opposite of some one autistic.. I think Laura was more a slap in the face then pursuasion

That probably has a lot to do with it. I am more inclined to think she is less related to Persuasion and more related to

That's an insult to skunks. It's been scientifically proven that they carry less deseases then this comicbook character. Why, just switch the vowel in the word "skunk" and you'll get what I mean.

lol, I think you really got it. Plus, she was raised in Hull house, let her be franco-Ontarians, but I must admit, that would be an insult to them too.

That's the problem with mind controllers as heroes. They can either solve every problem too easily, or there's always some reason why their powers don't work in every new story. Claremont handled this best with Karma, that she could only possess too people at once and needed to maintain her concentration to do so.

By extension of Purple Man's powers, it's not just water that breaks the hold, but physical shock of the water hitting. Mantlo changed that a bit when Northstar avoided being recontrolled by Kara by "staying submerged."

So, then can her powers work on creatures that are more inorganic than organic... like Box when he's in machine mode or Emma Frost in her diamond form?

I think it would depend if the victim has to breath or not.

Technically she mind-linked with the crystal planet. So it depends if pheromones work on them or not, and if not she can mind-link.

I hate when comic books go in space.. enough said.. I was LIVID when I started reading that whole arc... ugg but its ok becase after it came some of the best issues I've ever read (the early 60-64ish)

Well look it as a nice feat for Madison Jeffries becoming a spaceship that can travel speeds faster than light

Yah, I thought the space ark was a bit crappy myself. I don't care if comics are sci-fi mind you. I really enjoyed annihilation (sp?) but like that comic they have to be done realistically and not just "SPACE ADVENTURE-esque".

I'm looking at you Sentry.

SmurfInABlender
02-21-2007, 02:33 AM
Thats my exact problem, most space-esque comics are done very dumb... and yeah I actually didn't like jefferies making a spaceship.. it all seemed thrown together, what took the entire Alpha team to take 1 great monster with the help of a God mind you, was easy for them to whip them all at once and then turn into a space ship and rocket off.. its like they were so destined to get them to space that they just pulled an old enemy out of a hat to get them there.. it was rediculous!

Persuasion's powers will work or not depending on what's needed for the story...It's however the writer wants to use her.

Yep, one time it's stated Persuasion powers don't work on Sasquatch, then later it's showed it does work.

Scary huh? At least Flex is somewhat more original as a "son" of Wolverine...Being that he doesn't have claws, healing powers or animal-like abilities...But he can transform into metal.

Although...To me, Flex has always seemed like a better match to be Madison Jeffries' "son" (which would be very cool). Maybe Wolverine has more children out there...And maybe/hopefully they aren't as much like Wolvie-clones as this new "son" is.

As for Kara, I would love to see her have a run in with her father. With Killgrave in Canada and US Agent on his tail I'm wondering if it might not happen.
