Hey all. Im sure alot of you have seen the news about the flooding in parts of New Jersey. It has destroyed many homes and buisnesses. The store that I run is right next to a river that has crested and flooded the majority of the surrounding towns. Where I live fortunately has not been hit badly but I have not been able to get to my store for over 3 days to even see how bad the damage is to it. While my store is coporate owned. It should be fine in the long run. Every Wednesday I am fortunate enough to be able to go to my local comic store New Moon Comics which is the in the building directly next to mine. I work long days and alot of hours and my little Wednesday diversion helps get me through the week. Sadly because of the flooding New Moon Comics may have massive damage to it. I pray it does not. The owner is as big a fanboy as all of us and runs a great store. While I have not lost site of the tradegies that have occured to peoples homes and lives. My heart also goes out to the honest buisness man who started their own buisness to be involved in something they love. To any of you or your friends and family. If you have been affected by this natural disaster. Your are in my thoughts.

Thank you for your kind post, Dfense 75. My parents live in New Jersey, and were fortunate enought not to have had any flooding, (they live on a hill). But I do have friends who live in Wayne, New Jersey, and they had severe flooding there. My sympathy goes out to your friend, the comics store owner. Let's hope he didn't have a lot of damage, or that he lost some irreplaceable items.

Thanks for your thoughts and comments guys and gals. Best wishes to any one that you know that was affected and to the countless familes that lost their homes. New Moon comics ended up being ok. My store had only a bit of water come in and I only lost a bit of merchandise. My company is gonna work something out with the Red Cross so that if any families need new beds we will accept their Red Cross vouchers. I have heard some crazy stories of some of things that people and their families have lost. Its unfortunate that it takes disasters for people to pool their efforts and be civil and humane to one another sometimes.

Dfense,
If there's anything I can do to help out in your region, let me know. Folks across this country were so helpful when Louisiana was rocked by hurricanes a couple years ago. I feel obligated to lend a hand where I can. If Red Cross is actively managing the disaster, I'll send them a donation, or if you know someone with a more immediate need let me know.

There should be more people like you :D People in the area are just starting to get back on they're feet. As I eluded to earlier I manage a bedding store. I have been giving customers effected what they need at cost. I have not heard officially what aid they are getting atm. I know the acting govenor is trying to get aid from President Bush. While I dont expect any real help from him it appears alot of the effected families are getting help from their insurance companies. The water in most parts is receding. Only homes directly next to the rivers that flooded are still effected atm.

Thank you for your kind words! We, as you know had no damage at all - and only suffered the loss of 3-days of business (and in this business, that hurts enough - but water? That would have been a mess!).
Our mall (Wayne Towne Center Mall) was closed only because we're located next to a larger, more popular mall (Willowbrook Mall), and we share the same access roads. The Wayne PD felt it would be safe to block access to both buildings, even though our mall stands on a bit higher ground.
When I look at my town and see the number of people with water levels up past their doors, or their cars under water, my loss of 3-days of sales is meaningless.
Granted, the conditions in Wayne and other towns around us was not as bad as the after effects of Katrina (Louisiana), but they hurt just the same. The people of Wayne are good - hard working, middle class to low income folks. Our heart goes out to them!
Well, it's time to pick up the new comics, I think I've stood on the soapbox long enough this morning. I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words, offers of help, and most of all, for being great people!!
