View Full Version : What will the new Flight (book) look like?

I wonder---besides who will be in the next incarnation of the Flight---what the book will look like. [I'm assuming the Flight will get a book, although I wouldn't be mad if they were part of an anthology, but more concise than the Pointer 12-parter]
Will the first issue be double-sized, like volumes 1 and 2's # 1? That would be a nice tradition to continue. If it is a self-contained story, like the kind Fred Van Lente writes so well, all the better.
If the Flight gets a new series, will every 12th issue be double-sized? Again, I think that would be a nice tradition to continue.
If the Flight gets a new series, will it be the standard "monthly" (or as close to monthly as comics get these days) or something more peculiar, like 7 times a year? I like the 7 times a year schedule because it seems to give a creative team a little more leeway to hone a story/book.
Lastly, if the Flight gets a new series, will FVL be involved? If so, what are the chances of FVL being teamed up with John Byrne for an arc or two?

Well, I'd like to see a monthly title, with a double-sized first issue and possibly twelfth issue. And it would be wonderful to have Fred van Lente write it, (as long as he doesn't keep up with the silly feud between Snowbird and Aurora). Also, I hope they have Clayton Henry as the artist on it. Both FVL and Clayton have gotten good feedback for their work on the Flight, so they might possibly be asked to work on the book.
I hope we see (what's left of) the classic team: Sasquatch, Aurora, Northstar, Snowbird, Marrina, Diamond Lil, and Jeffries. If the writers want to throw in a few newbies, that's fine --but don't have them in place of the original team! Classic Alpha has always been the team that has worked better.
Finally, while I'd like to see John Byrne come in a story arc for the book, I doubt he ever will. John Byrne has made no secret of the fact that he never liked working on Alpha Flight, and most likely, will never do it again. It's sad, really, because I think Alpha Flight is the greatest thing he's ever done.

I'm actually beginning to wonder if Byrne's famous hatred of the Flight is no more than sour grapes over their treatment after he left?
I'm just picking up bits and pieces of reasons here and there.

Oh, me having anything to do with reason is entirely new.

I just think that any Alpha Flight book won't be right without Heather and Puck (and possibly Mac). Puck has always been called the heart of Alpha...And Mac and Heather are father and mother to this odd, yet special little family.
I would hope any new "Flight" book looks like (and is titled) Alpha Flight and it has most, if not all of the originals back where they belong. I'd like to see Aurora and Northstar back in Alpha (not the X-books where they're being used in cameos), Sasquatch, Talisman and Snowbird.
Maybe add a few old faces and a few new to freshen things up.
Throw in a guest-appearance by Wolverine who comes to see his resurrected friends and it's golden.

Yeah, it is time to make some things that were handled wrongly, right.
Wolverine not caring about the death of his former teammates and friends, was wrong.
Killing off the majority of Alpha Flight's Canadian characters, was wrong.
So was replacing them with Americans.
And Marvel execs telling us, the fans, that our voice doesn't matter...again, wrong wrong wrong!
Seems to me that Dana has it right. "His resurrected friends" - love that line. It is the comics, people - nobody stays dead forever.
Long live Alpha Flight!

I figure they'll be smarter and either Mac or Heather won't be dead. A new Nemesis, maybe Inuit. Snowbird maybe, but somehow I think it'll be Talisman or Snowbird, not both. Arachne may still be there. Puck, given his possible mystical immortality.
I figure a male/female balance, likely 6 characters. So Guardian, PUck, Sasquatch, Nemesis, Talisman, and....

NB: There hasn't been a --Flight series yet without some version of Sasquatch. He may be necessary.

I don't know, I think the two of them would make for a great dynamic. Both are powerful, mystical characters; both are daughters of Shaman (one literally, one metaphorically) and there is IMO unfinished business between them. Talisman's actions in Vol. 1 caused the death of Snowbird's husband and son by Pestilence's hand, and I think exploring that would make for a cool story.

I think having both Talisman and Snowbird is a great dynamic.

Omega flight are americans who want to be canadians.

Have been off forum for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. Omega flight never materialised into more. I liked it.
SO can anyone bring me up to speed:
Is there a new AF book planned?
How did Beta Ray Bill appear with Thor when he was trapped with the great beasts?
Why did Marvel let crap like New Warriors run to 20 issues, when Omega had sooooooooooo much more potential.
Why was Canada exempt from the Secret Invasion, I saw no sign of any Alphans/Omegans there?
Go raibh maith agat in advance

First of all, I'm glad this site is back up and running. For awhile, I thought I was banned.
Secondly, as much as I hope MARVEL will put out another book, I'm glad tptb aren't publishing stuff like volumes 2 and 3, pretending it's Alpha Flight.
Thirdly, the suggestion of an Alpha/Omega fight is interesting; I wonder how Elizabeth would feel in a situation like that.
Fourthly, If Fred Van Lente isn't asked to do something with the Alpha Flight characters, who will? I've wondered about this before, yet there are people who have done noteworthy things with AF characters: Mark Brooks, for one (in the X-Men Annual that featured Aurora and Northstar----the one were Aurora's eyes are green).
Lastly, I just hope it's good, and I hope the people who finally get to do Alpha Flight want it to be good, too.
