I really don't think John Byrne hates Alpha Flight...

A custom Guardian figure he made from Silver Surfer figurine...

He misses Heather (third message down)? So he made a Heather figure (near the bottom of the page)...

Sure, i guess you're right, he doesn't hate them. He just wanted them to be X-Men antagonists for a short stretch, and then dropped and never heard from again.

From a thread in the General Discussion section (and maybe I should ask that it be moved now to the Fan Fiction section?).

At the top of the 2nd page, you'll see that John Byrne made a second custom figure for me, free of charge!

A good point to bring up, RM.

BTW, your Heather is the best one I have ever seen so far...

I also liked your Heather figurine, Ryan...She was very good (how small are those figurines, anyway?)

Flightpath: I don't know if he intended Alpha to never be heard of again after their battle with the X-Men, but he seemed view them as guest adversaries only.

The same could have been said of Wolverine, though...He was created to be an adversary to the Hulk...At least, until he was fleshed out more in later appearances (and a few changes were made to the character).

Right...but, we are talking about Mr. Byrne's creations here, and Wolverine isn't one of them.

Well you have to consider he made them to solely fight the UNCANNY X-MEN, and probably had little interest in ever developing them again. Then, from my understanding, Marvel thrust it on his lap to make an ongoing series with them. When all he wanted was to make some simple people to counter the X-Men, and then having these cardboard cut outs (to him at the time) thrust on his lap to be fleshed out and made into a successful title by Marvel Execs may be good enough reason to say, "I don't like Alpha Flight because all they were ever intended to be was cardboard cut outs to fight the X-Men."

Unfortunately, at the time, JB actually told great stories, even when he wasn't happy telling them (apparently) and many of us fell in love with the card board cut outs who were suddenly given life.
