I'm hoping soon, as I'm really beginning to hate my bosses with a royal passion (yes, they suck that bad; I teach, used to be HS but now they are screwing me, 65% of my high school students go to University, average was 20% before I came and 17% in our ENTIRE DIVISION!! And in my 9-12 classes now the averages are 88%, 75%, 78%, and my 'Junior High' Averages are 70%, 74%, 80%, 83%, and 76%; yes, I suck as a teacher)

Sorry to vent, but I had a jerk meeting and they really want to look at me badly, not look at outcomes, but my day to day practices. 3 of them. The other 18 complaints have been proven as lies. Once again, sory to vent.

Wow. Sorry to hear about all that, M. Sounds like you definitely are in need of a dose of Alpha-good-news! If it helps any, we here are all in your corner.
(And if it helps any more, i have had a $*&# year myself. Got abandoned by my wife, then my best friend who I fell in love with betrayed me and walked out of my life, and my only two other friends in the world left me as well. Life sucks - c'mon, Alpha Flight!)

I know live with my parents, who i have my Dad constantly making smart remarks about why my relationship failed. I then got kicked off my the Guild that i helped make. (I know its WoW, but still, i spent a lot of time working on that guild and the guild bank)

Hopefully, we'll all see sunnier days. I likely will have a fight for mine starting in two weeks, may have to speak softly et al.

Hang in there Mokole. Those graduation stats on your kids put American schools to shame. Hang in there these times are tough for us all. And Trewqp...I gave up WoW after 4 years in a very successful progression guild. 11 Million people play that game. Imagine how dumb the average person is. Than realize that half the population is even dumber than that. After awhile I hated the community so much it wasnt a challenge to leave at all. I went to City of Heroes and never looked back. I know you like comics so give it a try. If you do try out the virtue or the freedom servers they are the 2 highest population. Virtue is more RPing while Freedom is more of a mix.

What a dreadful beginning to the year for you all. You have my sympathy.

My father passed away last Friday, (February 13). He was 89 years old, and in declining health for some time. Even though we expected it, it was still sad when it finally happened. I went to stay with my mother on Friday, and came back home with my husband and children after the memorial service on Tuesday night. (My brother flew in from California on Sunday, and is staying till next Monday.)

Looks like 2009 isn't the improvement on 2008 we'd hoped it would be.

I hope your Dad had a lot of good days. Good luck with the rest of the year, everyone, things will get better!

Thank you, Mokole. Yes, my dad did have a lot of good days.

I hope you are better appreciated by your school system. It sounds like you've been doing a fantastic job.

Mine, too, Sue.

Has anybody got off to a good start this year?

And thank you, Mik.

As far as anyone's having had a good start this year, New Year's Day was a day of optimism for us. And I had a couple of other good days, (one with an Audubon bird trip upstate to Orange County, New York; and one just today, with a Starfleet --Star Trek club-- meeting, after which we all went out to dinner at a Chinese buffet place).

Has anyone else had any good days yet this year?

I would LOVE to say 'yes', Mik, but even I can't say that. We moved to the Vancouver area on January 1st - just in time for the worst snowfall in the area (yippee) in ages - and here we are the beginning of March, and I STILL haven't found a job. I must put out at a MINIMUM 20 resumes a day, but because of the crappy economy and all the layoffs across the board, my piddly resume gets overlooked for someone else more qualified (which is sad, because I can't even get a job at the local donut shop... How qualified do you have to be to give people food??)

I hear you, Allan. I have been equally unable to find a job. And I belong to a Job Club of the unemployed, which seems to be getting bigger every week. It's the same story everywhere: people sending out their resumes, and getting no replies. Do employers even LOOK at resumes?

I wanted to bring the topic of this year to happier levels:

My writing group (http://csfg.org.au/news) is publishing an anthology. (Has just published it, but the launch is Friday).

I have a story published in there. And the 'watermark' art. And an illustration (for somebody else's story).

Ooh, and I did the cover!

For a year that started off so bad (don't ask. Really.), it's looking better.

That's wonderful news, Mik! :D Looks like there is some hope in the world, after all.
