View Full Version : Whatever happened to the AF fan-fiction from the 90s and noughties?

Years and years and years ago, in another lifetime, the members of this forum, then known as Alphawaves, did create several fan-fiction sagas surrounding our favourite team of Canadian super-folk.

I remember:

Alpha Flight: Birth of a New Dream (a round robin fan-fic)
End Game - a sprawling saga of magic and nightmares concerning the reformation of AF
2nd Flight - projecting AF into the (then) MC2 universe...
Next Flight - a saga about the reformation of AF after the end of Vol 1...

Are these still archived somewhere?

I particularly remember the beautiful illustrations by Ernesto Soon (BigBloo) on these fan fics!

Cheers,
Sengster

Sounds like that was a fun time.

In regard to 2nd Flight:

The website for the MC2 Alpha Flight can be accessed via the Wayback Engine: http://web.archive.org/web/20010902171157/http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Hollow/5410/afmc2.htm

There is an old thread on here about a 2nd Flight archive: http://www.alphaflight.net/showthread.php?3235-Second-Flight

The old 2nd Flight egroup/Yahoo Groups mailing list still exists: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/2flight/ but it 100% spam these days. Spam starts around Jan 28, 2004. Though it does seem the spam has kept the group alive! Oh irony...

MSH stat write up for the 2nd Flight team: http://web.archive.org/web/20010722114833/www.expage.com/page/2f123

I have a small archive of the 2nd Flight stuff- does anyone know who I would ask permission to put it back online?

Edit: Another thread here with some of the stories in: http://www.alphaflight.net/showthread.php?3748-Second-Flight-Stories

Funny, I was just asking about Birth of a New Dream. (http://www.alphaflight.net/showthread.php?5407-Hey-Ben...)

Using Archive.org - I was able to recover "Birth of a Dream" (the mass round robin many of us did - back in 1997 or 1998?)... as well as my own "Next Flight" (which was essentially my version of Alpha Flight's "New Mutants" type book, which I spun from Birth of a New Dream)...

So I put it all in one Word document - and ran it through spell checker - aside from the names and such - this thing was LOADED with an insane amount of spelling errors, typos, etc... and Snowbird's (real name) and Sasquatch's last name were spelled different like ten (different) times... lol

Which makes me think - whatever happened to Sue? She was the super Snowbird fan (more so than me).

I remember her being super active back in the day on the eGroups (later Yahoo Groups) list.

Did she ever migrate to the forums?

I don't think she did. We kind of lost her years ago. (Along with Thing.)

Bummer. Sue was a big Snowbird fan, so I had that bond with her. :)

I was recently trying to track down a couple of Alpha Flight fan fics I wrote back in the day (the actual Word documents have been long lost) and finally hit the jackpot thanks to some of the links posted here. In the Wayback machine I found the mother load of old fan fiction on Seng's old site.

https://web.archive.org/web/20010417213501/http://members.iinet.net.au/~sengmah/alpha.html

I still haven't had the courage to actually read my two stories. I assume there will be a lot of cringing...

Quick follow up to this. For some reason when you go to the main site, it doesn't show the side bar (at least for me). If you do a Find on the page for 'fiction' the side bar pops up and you can click on it. Or, here is a direct link to the fan fiction page:
