I wasn't going to go this year, but now I am.
Sweet cover! :)
Please bring my favourite team back!
Even an Alpha Flight Forever mini-series would be something to quench our desires!

Hey, that is a SWEEEEEET lookin' cover. However...I'd bet money that we haven't officially heard that AF will be appearing in this issue. As it says, it is a special Canadian cover.
Just a guess, but perhaps the Avengers are asked to patrol Canada as well, since there is no AF?
Again, unti,l I hear more...it is a sweet cover, but somehow I have my doubts that the original AF is back and appearing in this issue. Wait and see time...

Couple of thoughts on the cover...
Sasquatch looks great!
Aurora is in a classic outfit. Heather is not in a costume - she looks circa issue 14 of volume 1 - makes me think this may be a flashback issue. Talisman is in her "less skimpy" costume, from the looks of things.
Not sure what that green, crackling glowing thing is in front of Sasquatch...
Also not sure what that thing is on Guardian's costume, but I know it is NOT a Maple Leaf! FAR from it!

and the cover was done by Phil Jimenez. Hmmm...
that is the best i've seen them look since byrne drew them. i'm trying to connect the dots on the rumors out there.
1) jimenez is the artist linked to a possible relaunch. he tweeted that he is drawing characters that he loves. then this comes out, but he tweeted that tuesday, this is older than tuesday.
2) the cover says avengers, fred van lente let the cat out of the bag that he's writing a new avengers series.
hmmm......
i may be reaching, but i hope theres at least a sliver of truth in there.

Oh my gosh, GORGEOUS cover. I doubt the issue itself ties itself into Alpha's latest rumored comeback, but I don't even care, that is FANTASTIC looking. Classic (and best) looks for the lot of them, but not necessarily the #1 iconic looks that everyone immediately thinks of, you can really tell Jimenez is a fan of the team.

Based on the solicitation for Avengers #4, there is a slight possibility that the Flight may appear in the issue (The timestream is broken...), though I'm thinking it is just an exclusive cover for a Canadian comic show.
"The blockbuster Marvel comic of the year continues!! The timestream is broken and with that the Marvel Universe has fallen into utter chaos. Can the Avengers defeat Kang and even if they do, is it too late? Guest-starring EVERYONE!! Plus! Another startling chapter in the untold oral history of the Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis...! "
On another note, if it is going to be a series, someone has got to get Phil some proper reference materials when it comes to drawing Vindicator/Guardian (Mac). That attempt at a Maple Leaf is just poor / lazy.
rplass

That solicit reminds me of the Avengers Forever storyline - in which Sasquatch and Northstar appeared as Avengers from some unspecified timeline.

Why is everyone busting on Phil's maple leaf? I think it looks okay (certainly not as bad as Alpha Flight Volume 2's horrible maple leaves) and It's pretty close the style John Byrne first used in X-Men (and most of his Alpha Flight run) for Mac's uniform.

You need to save these two pictures somewhere, and look at them side by side. JB's is pretty dang close to perfect. This new one, looks like a red cannabis leaf or something - not even in the same ballpark.
How would you feel if an artist drew a new uniform for Captain America to wear, and it had the Stars and Stripes prominently displayed on it, only the stripes were all at a 45 degree angle and blurry, and there were only 11 stars? Would that accurately represent the American flag?
Some things you just don't want to mess up as a comic book artist. Three in particular; (1) don't mess up the Maple Leaf, (2) learn how to draw Sasquatch properly or go home, and (3) if the book's writer tells you to draw a panel wherer Alpha Flight is laying dead on the snow, just quit and go home. And that's my take on that. I like the picture, i really do, i just hate the job he did on Mac's costume, that's all; everything else looks great!

I disagree, FP...The only real difference between John Byrne's Guardian maple leaf and the one that Phil drew is that the bottom segment of Phil's leaf in pointing downward diagonally instead of horizontally toward his right side.

Of course this is the first Fanexpo Im NOT going to - sonofa!
I went last year and went to the Q&A with Joe Q with one question on my mind and that was to ask about Alpha Flight. I was beat to it by another person but was thankful someone asked about them.
I think Marvel is finally clueing in that if you come to a con in Canada, you better have something to give the Alpha fans.
That said, its not just Marvel. I can look high and low around Fanexpo and there is very little AF merchandise, including comics, for sale or on display. I initially thought that a comic convention in Canada, there's got to be lots of AF merch I can buy and I always head home with a few comics - thats all.
I'd love to get action figures, toys, busts whatever but none of that stuff is ever available and I know its out there. I see it on this site.

Part of the trouble with the maple leaf is the perspective / the wrapping around his body.
But that's only part.
Apart from Guardian being there, it looks to me like the team as Byrne quit the book (and since Talisman joined after his death, that particular line-up doesn't make sense in any 616 timeline).

Hi everyone! Could anyone please get a copy of one of these for me? I'm a long time Alpha Flight fan living on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, and when I saw this cover I really got pumped 'cause I think for me this is the best and most faithfull rendition of the Flight since de Byrne era, not to dismiss some other good ones of late like the Omega Flight run. But this one's definitely caught my attention.
So, if there's anyone out there willing and able to be at the con. Please make mine Marvel! Thanks.
P.S: High hopes for CB Cebulsky's panel today! Fingers crossed...

I had the very special honor of getting Phil Jiminez to sign my copy today at the Marvel Booth at NYCC 2010. Weird thing was both Stan Lee (yes, that Stan Lee) and Phil from alphaflight.net were both a few steps away from me at the time - Stan was on the Marvel stage signing autographs and Phil from alphaflight.net was a few people behind me on the line.
When I showed the comic to Phil Jiminez, he told me it was the first time he had seen it in print! I pointed out my favorite parts of the cover: notably the pointy ears on Northstar (though it's sad that one has to distinguish this minor issue from so many other depictions of Northstar with rounded ears), the green magical flames from Talisman as well as the snowy effects on the lower part of the cover. Phil Jiminez then sort of dropped into a bit of a pedagogical mode, telling me that the snow wasn't his, just the colorist and then started to really emphasize how a colorist can have a big effect on the finished artwork. He was like, 'No, no I really want to make a point here about the colorist...' I agreed with him of course, and we both agreed that the snowy effects were pretty cool. Then he admitted that he heard he got the maple leaf wrong on Guardian's costume. I tried to explain how it was supposed to look, (http://www.alphaflight.net/gallery/data/503/guardian1_gallery1.jpg) but he insisted that he had copied the shape from a Byrne image, and owed the misshapennes of the maple leaf to the fact that Guardian's stance was not exactly straight on. I really think that he did make an attempt to draw the maple leaf element of the costume, but nevertheless it came out looking odd.
Well it sure was cool to meet the guy!

You should keep away from those buses. Not only are they killing people (at least, at my work, we're always worried about 'what if so-and-so got hit by a bus?'), but apparently they're taking away your ability to recognise people.

He's the one with the British accent. I should add that when I said he was a realy nice guy, that only applies to sober Phil. See, he starts out all:
"Yip, yip! Jolly good, chap!"
then after a few beers, he's all:
"God shave the Queen!"
but after he's had too much, he's quite the insufferable drunk and just randomly spittle-shouts:
"Oh, Bloody hell! Bloody hell everywhere!"
So it's quite easy to tell us apart. I doubt you'd have any problem.
