Man, am I ever BUMMED!

My Baldur's Gate DVD just blew up inside my DVD-drive, shattering into a million pieces. Now I have to; (a) send my pc away to get fixed, and (b) buy another copy of my game.

That is the second time in ten years that I have seen a DVD do that to my computer (diifferent computer, mind you, and different game as well). Completely unbe-friggin-lievable!

:(

If it weren't for bad luck...

That's harsh, man. Good luck when you get it back.

evil-doers beware!

Taking it in to get serviced on Monday. Hopefully just a simple switch-out, and back in business.

Phew! :D

Whoa...Ben talked to me! lol.

GREAT games. This is the first time I have had the pleasure of playing Tales of The Sword Coast.

I have played them all through many times. Icewind Dale is fun too, but the story isn't as interesting as BG. Also using that game engine is Planescape Torment. It's really cool, and kinda creepy, but well worth playing.

Heh, I'm playing Icewind Dale for the first time myself. Picked up the Diamond edition cheap sometime ago. I like not having to worry about a full party like I did in BG. I love Bioware games. I hope your comp is an easy (and cheap) fix.

Exploding computer disks? What the heck is up with that?

I own Icewind Dale, but am not a huge fan. The only game that I have ever found that even comes close to the enjoyment of Baldur's Gate series, is Neverwinter Nights. But Dragon Age Origins is cool, too, but I hate having to be connected ot the internet to play it...

Anyways, one full week after taking my pc in, it is back.

Now I just have to wait for my new copy of BG to arrive in the mail...

I LOVED dragon age! and neverwinter 1 and 2 were both good.

I use to play Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 and the online version. What I'm really waiting for though (aside from an AF series) is for Diablo 3 to come out.

So...Is Baldur's Gate really fun? I'm a Freedom Force and Freedom Force vs The Third Reich addict and I also enjoy D&D Online. I'm not a big gamer, really...But I've heard lots of folks talking about Baldur's Gate. Oh, I tried Runescape, but I really wasn't into it and I eventually just stopped playing.

Baldur's Gate? Oh, where to start...makes me wish i were an old-tyme bard, so i could sing of it's glorious virtues. Ahem...ain't gonna happen.

Simplistic interface to use. One of the most expansive and explorable games ever. Although there is a plot-line that must be followed, there are an incredible amount of space just simply created for those who like to explore areas having nothing to do with said plot line.

Awesome characters, some of the best in the gaming business ever created. The voice-overs are amazing. The music is epic (I have the CDs of the music for BG1 and BG2). What it lacks in blood-and guts, it makes up for with sheer wicked-coolness!

Plus, its awesome!

I might have to check it out then, FP...Thank you.

EDIT: FP...Any thoughts on BG: Tales of The Sword Coast and BG: Shadows of Amn? I specifically looking at the set below...

Dana,

That is the set that i own as well (several copies, now!).

Helpful hints: Install BG1 and then TotSC, then find and download the latest patch (for TotSC ONLY, NOT for BG1!). If you have the expansion installed (TotSC) you must patch only ther expansion, else your game will be frigged.
Same goes for BG2, when you are ready to play it; install BG2 and SoA, then patch SoA only.

Lots of walkthrus and help-sites for Baldur's Gate on the 'net, prob the bestest can be found here...

Shadows of Amn is good, I have played it before. Tales of the Sword Coast, i am playing now - it is really intense, very difficult, but a lot of good fun.

I am about 3/4 of the way through Baldurs Gate, playing nearly every day. Lots of uber-thrills.

But to give myself a break, i re-installed neverwinter Nights and am now playing that as a dwarf fighter named Norgad Brainbasher. When it comes to fighter-types, I love the no-nonsense approach of the dwarves. In Baldur's Gate, I usually play as a half-elven Ranger.

Fun, fun, FUN!

Now that Good Old Games.com has Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, and Arcanum available for download, I may have to go on a nostalgia-fuelled gaming binge myself...

I own Arcanum.

Hate it. Hated it from the first moment I bought it.

But I own Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights (1 and 2), Baldur's Gate (1 and 2), and Dragon's Age:Origins, and those are all excellent.

To each his own. I enjoyed the aesthetics and gameplay of Arcanum quite a bit (bugs and class balance issues aside). Neverwinter Nights 1 was OK with the out-of-the-box campaign; the expansions were fantastic. NWN 2 was a so-so story that ended terribly. I liked the Balder's Gate games and Icewind Dale, but my antipathy for the FR setting never really let me love them. Dragon Age: Origins was the best fantasy RPG I'd played in over a decade, and then Bioware mucked it up with a lot of sub-standard, badly written follow-up content. Heartbreaking.

Seems like most of these things eventually go free-to-play, given a couple of years. I wonder how much competition this will be for D&D Online.

I gathered from the site that it has online or ofline play. I'm not a big online gammer personally. MMOGs do essentially nothing for me. I don't bother going online with the x-box either. Ilike a good game with a good story, and online play watters that down way too much for me.

Ugh. The thing that may keep me out of it is "multi-platform storytelling". I'm not going to buy the book and the tabletop game just to know what's going on in the MMO. That's the kind of customer-milking crossover that made me loathe DA: Awakening and keeps me from buying most comics from the Big Two.

I hear ya on that one.

I'm like Ben ( :) !!! ), I usually just play alone on my pc (that sounds bad).

Huh? You don't HAVE to be online to play DA:O. It just offers the option so that it can keep a log of your achievements and stats and such, though I've had issues with it.

I do really need to get caught up on the older RPGs people are talking about. At least they should work on my computer. DA:O kept me busy for a long time, still not finished with it, just taking a break.

As for ****ty follow-up content to Origins, this is what happens when EA decides to force Bioware to start deving the next game before the original even hits store shelves. They also never fixed all the bugged dialogue. Zevran has soooooo much bugged dialogue, that it gives him a worse reputation than his romance deserves. My favorite character, so yeah... -_- (**** you EA)
