Aw cripes! They better not have AF there just to be punching bags... again!

Well, it looks like Mac got tagged, but Northstar (if that is Northstar to his right) and Sasquatch appear to be holding their own. What an expression, though.

From the way he is flying, and his expression, it looks a lot more like the "Michael Pointless" Guardian, don't it?

Ah, with his force field he'll be fine and come back to destroy that demon thingy

Is it a demon or one of the enslaved skyfathers?

Yup...Shaman's there too (to the left of Mac), that does look like Jean Paul on the right..

Is that Shaman? I thought it might be and discarded the idea because I don't recall his costume having a cape.

I agree. That figure is more Thor-like than Shaman-esque.

I don't think that's a cape. I zoomed in on the pic and it looks like the arms of a demon grabbing him from just off panel. You can also make out its wings.

Phil

Thor's on his own in the top panel.
I'd say the 2nd panel is all AF, so I agree it's Shaman.

Hate to say it, but if one has to stay for the others to return to the land of the living, I would vote for Guardian...

Look again guys, there is no cape...it's an attacker's arms grabbing Shaman's shoulders.

i couldn't disagree more, i really feel the original series under byrne lost its way a little bit after mac died. also, the rest of the original series runs seemed like it was always another mac reserection, just to be killed off again. i would really like to see a long run with mac leading this team.

besides, issue 4 takes place after the one shot, so i doubt its mac who sacrifices himself, if anyone stays behind at all.

I agree with Ahab...And yet disagree. I wish in many ways that Mac was left dead, but I'd also like to see him developed and made more interesting. I was shocked by Mac's death by John Byrne, but I absolutely loved what came after in his run.

I just feel that he should have been left alone after his first death OR more development had occurred well after he came back as a cyborg. If they had continued the aspect that made him unique in my mind in which he was the reluctant hero and leader and built on the cyborg/human condition, I probably would have liked the character. Instead, he has been stripped of everything that made him unique and now only serves as the equivalent of the ball in the game of pong between life and death.

You do not feel that way.

also, the rest of the original series runs seemed like it was always another mac reserection, just to be killed off again.

I can see where you're getting that, but I think it's an exaggeration. Even if you count #27, there were about 60 issues between resurrections for him (his next being around #90).
... Then it turned into what you describe.

i would really like to see a long run with mac leading this team.

That'd be cool.
That said, I like Heather as leader and would prefer to keep her.

LOL! Yeah, true and I like your metaphorical language here. :D :D {guardian}

I think Mac's "resurrection" in the later Byrne issues was absolute genius. He wrote the story intending a huge emotional impact...And for me, it worked. I thought Mac was back (I was never a big fan of the character, though)...But the impact on Heather had an effect on me. Then Mac turns out to be not himself...Yeah, that was messed up! That was great writing, right there.

You are right, I don't feel that way, especially considering 3/4 of what you responded to had me as saying it when I wasn't the one that wrote it!
I WILL take credit for the pong analogy though...

I agree with you as well.

I am less sure about the "it really should have ended there" part, though. Until we quantify of what "it" is and where "there" is, also by saying where it started and showing therefore that it even had a beginning to begin with, I shall have to abstain.

Sorry - can't help you there. I work in a law firm and deal with attorneys that are language-challenged constantly. I don't have the energy to help you out as well - maybe you can find someone else to explain, if it is that confusing to you...;)

My interpretation is "it" is the Guardian death / resurrection cycle, it started in issue 12, and "there" is issue #29.
But I think things.

Agreed.

Somewhere nearby, a gift horse, with a full mouth of teeth, is waiting to be examined...

Since the one shot says they'll appear in 5, and not in this one, my hopes are kind of high.

I meant in regards to overall panel time. Sure they will appear, but will it be like #4?

I meant that, too. Since #5 was advertised in the oneshot, and #4 was not, I had to conclude that #5 was a 'real' appearance and #4 was not.

I'm open to my hopes being dashed like the dreams of a child upon the rocks of adolescence, however.
