The only clamor seemed to be for Puck...who could also be the core member traitor
The covers do seem to provide a strong hint as to who it might be...
BTW, if it is Puck with the writers having decided that the best way to get rid of his "no, really! I'm a normal guy possessed by a demon!" retcon is to have had him locked up since issue #29 or so with a phony running about in the MU for the last twenty years, I will LMAO and buy five copies.
Still v. worried about the traitor being one of Jeanne-Marie's personalities, though.

I dunno, on that one cover, it looks like Shaman vs. everybody.

I dunno, on that one cover, it looks like Shaman vs. everybody.
Hmm... to me it looks like Shaman's trying to save Snowbird.
The thing I can't work out is whether or not Mac's trying to fly away or if he's just blasted Marrina.
If it's the latter then that'd make Mac the core betrayer?

That's a REALLY interesting point, and something I hadn't thought of... but given FVL's loathing of the Temporal Versions of AF I doubt they'd create a 2nd Puck.
My guess is he got out of hell somehow...
Any guesses on who's going to become AF's hammer-wielding Worthy adversary?

Yes, i have thoughts.
Many of them ("Why are you all laughing?" is one of them). Sometimes, more than one in a day!
Hammer-wielding...Wrecking Crew!
Shocking betrayal by...Mac. He's not a man given to politics. That's my thought. He just follows orders and serves his government; but he'll be the big hero in the end.
Imprisioned hero - definitely Puck.

I've got a hunch the hammer-wielding bad guy could be (a) Box.
I say this, because of something FVL said about Madison not being available for the maxi-series:
The X-Office has declared Madison off-limits to us, I'm afraid. Box, though...Maybe he's just saying Box could show up if the book survives as an ongoing, or maybe he's giving a reveal?

Why would you put a hammer in a box? And what would you use to smash open the box, seeing as how your new hammer is inside it?

First part, true. They've said AF will be betrayed. They never said the betrayer will stay betray-ey.
Puck is imprisoned on that cover, but it could be purely symbolic, just a pic that's got nothing to do with the contents. We've all seen them.
I've got a hunch the hammer-wielding bad guy could be (a) Box.
The X-Office has declared Madison off-limits to us, I'm afraid. Box, though...
Ooh, Black box? Everybody, everybody ride on time!
I take that to mean that...
No, I don't. I just reread it. I was going to say that meant they really couldn't use him, but you're right, they can use Box. At least his legs. Then it'll be just kick-boxing.
Why would you put a hammer in a box? And what would you use to smash open the box, seeing as how your new hammer is inside it?
You have to put it in a box before you give it to anybody.
I'm still trying to figure out why my work's dishwasher is Thor brand? Who buys a dishwasher named after a guy famous for using a hammer?
"Oh, we'll treat your dishes delicately, all right..." *snigger.*

Wow. Puck! PUCK!!
I think Dale has been teasing us a bit with the "Puck... if we end up using him"... and they bring him back in #2.
For the record, I also ordered the variant (Puck) cover of #2.

Out of all the one's shown on BC I can only see it being Grey Gargoyle.
The others would probably be considered too 'top tier' for AF.
However, I reckon that there'll be one of Pak & FVL's choosing within this series (& in Herc).

I actually kind of like the idea for The Chosen. I don't plan on getting Fear Itself but I did get The Book of the Skrull prelude just so I have a hint of what will be going on in AF. It was actually really good, but then I'm rarely disappointed in Brubaker's stories. Especially when dealing with WW II Cap, Bucky and Namor.
I actually hope the Chosen is NOT an AF bad guy they go up against. I'd rather see someone they've never faced before.

I'd prefer not to swing toward the "mentally ill = untrustworthy psycho" trope. And I'd really like not to have JM lose the ground she seemed to have gained recently wrt dealing with her DID. That's the potential downside of the creative team going waaaay back to basics -- there's the danger of some good bits getting ignored along with the wtf-ery. Not that I'm sorry to lose low points like Alpha Flight attacking a school or Mac's increasingly preposterous series of resurrections, but there are some parts that add up to half-decent character progression in there too. But we'll see how it shakes out.
I know the preview pages aren't much to go by but she seems well written to me, IMO.

Digger: Amazing.
As for Puck being the Betrayer... I guess I haven't really been following much of Marvel since the Civil War (the way they do all the comics to be very dark really bothers me) so I've missed a bunch of stuff. I really hope the character is basically what I remember of it. He was one of my favourites...

Obviously you are not a Jaded Oldie :-) Many years ago there was a program called Dallas that for a whole season had one of the main characters as dead. This did not go down well with fans, so the writers retconned the whole thing by having that whole season being nothing more than a dream by the dead characters wife. In the last episode of that season she wakes up, goes to the shower and finds him a alive. The Character was played by Patrick Duffy, who also played 'The Man From Atlantis'. Ergo, Webbed Hands, Patrick and Shower. Pucks Demon inside was nothing but a dream. It's no fun when you have to explain things :-(

I now think Mac is the traitor. Reading this thread, it makes sense that he would go the Government line. And Puck will be the imprisoned hero. I think Mac will be back to good in the end. Hope Heather kicks his arse!
The whole 'Snowbird being a demi-God and thus not interested in mortal politics' (paraphrased) comments that have been mentioned in various interviews has me considering her now.

Doesn't follow, though, since she's spent her entire life (all six years of it) on Earth. Specifically, Canada.
Somebody as bound to the land as she is would take a great interest, I'd think, in the running of it.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if someday some fishermen caught a big shark and cut it open, and there inside was a whole person. Then they cut the person open, and in him is a little baby shark. And in the baby shark there isn’t a person, because it would be too small. But there’s a little doll or something, like a Johnny Combat little toy guy-something like that."

i think its going to be heather. fvl said he jumped on with issue #5 which was when mac was still alive and the leader of the team, he also said that he wanted to really develop mac's character and establish him as a strong leader. so i doubt its mac.
heather would make sense, because cody knows and trusts her and she probably will try and be alpha spy from the inside.

Aurora: May be harboring the traitor and not even know it.
Heather: It would be one hell of a way to get out from under Mac's shadow.
Mac: Is still wrapped in the friggin' flag.
Marrina: Plodex mood swings? (Yeah, reaching for that one)
Northstar: Has, according to interviews, lost everything and will do "anything" to get it back. Also has a history of telling AF to stuff it anyway.
Puck: Possessed by a demon, which means he'll likely take any means to an end. Alternatively, time in Hell might change a guy.
Sasquatch: Long, loooooooong history of making well-intentioned, poorly considered decisions.
Snowbird: Demi-goddess. "Not interested in mortal politics". May have much larger concerns than team loyalty.
