View Full Version : Shocking Alpha News out this week

As many of you know, man-of-the-month, Dale Eaglesham, has been hinting on Facebook and Twitter that there will be SHOCKING Alpha Flight news this week. Ground-breakingly Shocking!!

Short of Rocksie joining the team (we can all but hope), I warrant that the news is the announcement that our maxi-series has been promoted to an ongoing series.

At least we can all live in hope!

Here's keeping fingers and toes crossed!

What do you think this news will be?

DelBubs

I'm not sure, on his forum Wolfie mentioned something about a page with two small panels and one very big panel. Mark Pannicia said of the preview art something along the lines of 'How Heather get's the baby will give you nightmates'. It's not much of a niughtmare to think of her as a traitor (all be it for whatever reason), so it's got to be major. Does she kill/maim a family or team member? Does she sleep with Cody etc etc?

cmdrkoenig67

...Or does Heather kill her cousin and his wife when they try to prevent her from taking her child? I really hope the writers didn't go that route.

It's probably this (http://www.daleeaglesham.com/Denizens/index.php?topic=875.msg51846#msg51846):

Here's an exclusive scoop for Agora members: Dale just wrapped up issue 4, and as of issue 5, we're back with finished pencils (i.e. coloring directly from the pencils). Dale just never got out of the habit of doing full pencils, and it was time to face it. ;-) Drew did an AMAZING job, though, and we'll miss his inks for sure!

Maybe the big shocking news is that Guardian had powers that none of us knew he ever had. Like, say, he could alter reality with his suit. And therefore, he never really died, and Heather never put on the suit, and they do not really have a daughter at all. And Magneto is their real dad.

Maybe.

I checked it out at the AF Club over at daleeaglesham.com - all I can say is Wow! Part of me thinks it's one of those "virtual reality pods" that they showed in #2 but I don't think Freg will go with such a scenario. This is going to have repercussions in AF for a long time and spells the end of what we had always taken for granted!

So, how do you fix a hero after that? I trust Freg has a long term plan, because I can't see how Heather's is going to come to terms with her actions within this maxiseries. Maybe this is a hint at an ongoing in which this will be dealt with over the long run? More importantly though, how are fans going to handle this heel turn? Do you think it will affect sales?

DelBubs
08-04-2011, 01:43 PM
I don't think it will overly affect sales. Heathers actions are an integral part of the story line, the big reveal will show why people have done what we have seen. Heather maybe killing real people (if it's not a dream VR etc) is not going to be able to counter the anticipation of trying to figure out or waiting for the why. IMHO

I only ask, because there were posters on CBR's forums saying how they liked Heather/disliked Mac so much they were voting for Alpha Strike to win, and wondered if, after seeing her do this, they would be so angry as to choose not to buy any more of the series.
Never thought about it being only VR though, good call. However, I figure it's real as there was that panel with the two guards, and one of them has a little smirk grin which I wouldn't think would be programmed into a simulation. Then again, that doesn't take into account Freg throwing it in as a swerve.

This just makes me mad that I won't get 0.1 to and so on until #4 itself is released! To save money I am getting all four mailed at once. I will enjoy it all, I tells ya!

Now, I'm thinking she really is doing the deed, no dream, and really means to do it, but I agree too that she's unaware of manipulation from... oh, I have to agree it's got to be the Master or Dreamqueen. We'll see by #8, which I also have on order (0.1-4, 5-8).:)

I can't see her going back to being a hero after this. Even if it is to "Vindicate" herself. She'll either snap out of it and give up the hero life, stay a villain and be on the loose/behind bars or killed off (Although I think only in an Alpha Flight book could a main character going to jail be a bigger shock then their actual death!). BTW does Speedball still have that slightly used Penance suit available?

Didn't Bedlam the Brain Blast try to take control over Heather in the vol. 1 series when AF fought the Derangers! Maybe there are some residual effects from that time and what did in fact happen to Gary Cody after he released Bedlam?

DelBubs
08-04-2011, 06:36 PM
My understanding is that after Bedlam had finished meddling with Cody's head he was basically worm food. It was only after Chaos War that he resurfaced.

As for the Bedlam battle I can only off this 1337

I don't think Freg will go down the route of VR/dream/illusion/LMDs... I reckon it's Heather doing something very extreme to reclaim Claire, and there will be repercussions down the line. I think this is #4 that Dale is drawing - the introduction of Alpha Strike - so we'll no doubt see it play out across the other issues.

Gawd, there'd better be an ongoing after this reveal. I've decided to pull 2 copies of each issue on pre-order now so that I can pack the first 8 up and send to a friend.

Pertaining to the page/puzzel.......HOLY BAT$#!+. By the by though, I was just rereading issue 22 vol.1 and on page 16 Jeffries and Bochs are talking about the new Box armour being used to go after the man who killed Mac. They never did say what happened to Jaxon after his battle with Mac. Maybe he is back and is behind it all.

Some of those people would probably like her better because of this!

If she's being in any way manipulated or mind-controlled, it'll be easier to vindicate. Also, I've just thought - maybe it's somebody else's VR? Maybe, say, Aurora's seeing this as the Gov't tries to turn her against Heather?
Just a possibility.

OTOH, I will remind you how blood-thirsty Heather got during Mantlo's run.

OK, I think I need to get this, and it sure as hell better go ongoing if they want my money back in their pockets.

To hear of a book in which the original Alpha team are being done some justice gives me some shred of hope that someday some writer might care enough to bring back Wildchild, Diamond Lil, and Madison Jeffries and do them some long overdue justice. And yeah, I know Wildchild is the only one who's 'dead', but Lil and Madison may as well be what with the number Tieri's **** writing did on them. Seriously, it was like that guy was out to destroy almost every character I like! Thank the gods he at least didn't get his hands on Wolfsbane or Nightcrawler. Not that the latter isn't killed off now, too, from what I've read.

It's hard for me to buy anything Marvel after the **** that's gone down in the Marvel 'verse.

They could start atoning by killing off Daken or whatever his name is, and retconing the entire Lipine concept back out of existance. Loeb is right up there with Tieri on my **** list. I guess at Least Loeb let Kyle beat the **** out of the legendary uber-powerful re-re-re-re upgraded Wolverine before killing him off in the dumbest way possible.

Ok... I'm getting way off into rant territory so I'll stop there.

Totally crossing my fingers for the new Alpha series to go ongoing... (you know, and not get jacked up by a creative team change the moment it does so.)

Well, Madison was picked up by the X-Men slightly unhinged in the wilderness and was brought back with them and joined their X-Club (http://alphaflightcollector.wordpress.com/2009/11/24/mister-jeffries-joins-the-x-men-science-team/) (Science Team).
He's now a pretty much regular supporting character with the X-Men in a very much Forge-esque role.

Lil turned up alive and well on Utopia over in the pages of X-Force (http://alphaflightcollector.wordpress.com/2009/12/27/diamond-lil-resurfaces-in-x-force-22/), only to be killed the next issue. (http://alphaflightcollector.wordpress.com/2010/02/03/diamond-lil-killed-in-x-force-23/)

There was a short, pretty well written, anthology story covering Lil & Madison's reconciliation (http://alphaflightcollector.wordpress.com/2010/03/11/mister-jeffries-gets-some-action-in-nation-x-3/) and dealing with the Weapon X events, bookending her funeral.

I've added links to Rob's site that give a bit more detail as well as specific issue numbers.

Thanks Phil. WTF. -_- Marvel REALLY likes killing people off since I've been gone.

I remember a time when character deaths happened because they served a purpose in the story. Now it seems like writers think they have to kill characters off often to be taken seriously or something. The writer's statement about it pisses me off. No, I will not buy books he writes, considering I know he is indifferent to the fans and does not care about the characters. -_- FFS, I try to write fan-fiction, and I know how hard it is to kill a character you really love. Most Marvel writers don't seem at all attached to the characters they choose to write. Just look at how they'll bring in a character they don't normally write just long enough to kill them off for some quick and easy drama minus much need for plot.

Luckily I never liked DC to begin with.

But Marvel... Marvel had such a well built main universe with fantastic history built over the years, and wonderful, diverse, lovingly crafted characters with great origin concepts. And the writers nowadays just go 'why should I care, this isn't MY favorite character I'm writing. Lets ether change who they are completely or else kill them off. That's easier than getting to know and understand the character and continuity. Oh! Better yet, why not do both!" -_-

At least there is the off chance that some writer who actually LIKED Wildchild could pull the **** they always pulled with Sabertooth and Wolverine. But what will even be left of the Marvel Universe I loved by time that happens?

In Lil's case, they would have to come up with something incredibly convoluted to bring her back. She's not a character with that much of a back story or that long of a list of fans, so it will probably never happen. What BS.

Yup. Sadly, agree.

What BS.

Especially with that part. I really liked Lil. She got a bad rap too often. She was one of those characters that Alpha Flight could have really helped redeem, ALMOST like a villain gone ot the good side (altho she wa snever REALLY a villain). And, of course, same thing with Wild Child.

But Marvel doesn't want damaged characters that get better. They want damaged characters that get worse!

BTW, I have some high hopes for some of the newer DC titles. I actually find a lot of what they are doing, fascinating, and am eager to see where it leads. Not so much the rebooting of old titles, but the lesser-known titles they are starting up at the same time seem kinda cool.

For instance, I haven't read any issues yet, but have added "Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E." to my pull-list. Looks like good, clean fun!

Luckily I never liked DC to begin with.

I used to follow Teen Titans and Birds of Prey religiously for awhile; then they started to suck, almost as much as 99% of Marvel comics suck.

Not really in Lil's case. All they have to say is that her protective aura interacted with Mortis' death touch and this caused her to go into a coma.

I'm sure they could explain it someway. It's comic book science, it's not like the impossible is truly impossible.
