I saw it last night.

Frankly, I really enjoyed it.

It wasn’t perfect – there were a few things they did wrong. I don’t like the way they handled the ‘I let a burglar go and he killed my uncle’ part.

Aunt may was too young, and Peter... he looked like they wanted him to be ultra-cool.
In 1996.
I never bought him as 'my' Peter Parker, but that didn't detract much from my enjoyment of the movie.
He was a really cool, spiky-haired skateboarder with an attitude and a bit of a problem with authority.

Wait... that wasn’t Peter Parker. That was Bart Simpson!

The rest of the cast were perfect.

It was all a little too tied into Osborne Corp, making them the cause of everything. They needed to get out from those apron strings a little.

There were a few things that were dumb, but not enough to make me feel dumb for watching it.
Overall, yeah, it’s great! Two thumbs up.

The audience seemed to have a good time; we laughed in all the right places (with the movie, not at it).

The tone was dark and serious enough without being depressing and dull. It was unserious enough to laugh at itself without getting goofy and stupid.

It had a reasonable attitude to ordinary people.

If the Fantastic Four movie had found that level, I think it would've been one of the greats.

The Lizard looked like Killer Croc instead - a little too human for The Lizard (though with a tail). I kind of wished he'd quit taking off the lab coat that makes his look so distinctive in the comics (he'd wear it for a few seconds at a time, then rip it off).

James Horner's score was great (might've been too intrusive, for those who care about that), and if he repeated himself, I didn't notice. (He repeats himself a lot.)

They didn't get everything right, but I really liked it.

Hope to see it this Saturday. Glad you liked it. Heard nothing but great reviews about it.

Anybody out there excited about Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie?

FP, I thought about you and this movie on my way to work this morning, and I realised I should give you a caveat - I've loved a lot of movies that you haven't.
I think our tastes in movies are different enough that you shouldn't let me hype you up about it.

GotG - Meh. It'll probably be good, but I'd've liked it better if it'd been the original Guardians. I'd've liked to see Yondu on screen.
Is anybody surprised? Anybody?

Lol - you're hilarious. I'm sure i'll enjoy this Spider-Man movie, as i didn't think much of the other three ones Marvel put out, and since this one is different...chances are, it'll be good. After all, i didn't think much of the X-men trilogy either, but loved First Class.

As far as Guardians of the Galaxy, I'm hoping to see an almost-Flighter in it; Beta Ray Bill. Doubtful, but I'm hoping.

I didn't like the first (Sam Raimi) Spider-Man. It was too... wafer thin.
I enjoyed the second one, but the third one was absolutely dire.

The X-Men trilogy was exactly the same for me, come to think of it; First - boring, Second - amazing, Third - Rubbish.

I liked X-Men First Class because it tried to be different and not just a carbon copy of the comics.

To compare / contrast:

I really liked the first Raimi Spider-Man, didn't like the second as much because it felt like a scene-for-scene remake (http://le-messor.livejournal.com/13606.html).
I enjoy the third one, but nowhere near as much.

I really, really liked the first X-Men, the second is my favourite movie, and I think the third is good, but not worthy of being a sequel to the last two. I love First Class, too.

Love Captain America, Iron Man, 1 and 2; like Thor, the Edward Norton Hulk. I find the two Fantastic Four movies enjoyable, but they're right on the thin edge of tolerable.

I don't like most comic movies. The 1st 3 Spider-Men movies, 1 was OK but it got really stupid really fast and I always hated Dunst as MJ.

So, I'm guessing Phil and Mokole haven't seen the new Spidey, then? Are either of you going to see it?

My thoughts exactly. I loved the 90's series and never got into the Annihilation Wave version.

If Marvel plays it right, Rocket Raccoon and Groot could be the next big thing in movies.

:D
Marvel movies... might. The reason I'm so 'meh' about the comics is that Marvel tends to take a lot of of really cool, fun ideas and suck all the fun out of them.
To be 'taken seriously', I think. Who's doing the taking? I don't know.

The movies do that, but nowhere near as badly. And it works better on screen.
If they do RR - and I don't know that they would - they'll probably overcompensate, trying not to make him a funny animal sidekick.
Or, they might just go with it.

Come to think of it, he was a reasonably serious character when I read him.

If you're talking about his early appearances (his first appearance was in Hulk #271, by the way...the issue before Sasquatch appears and the Hulk gets Bruce Banner's brain) and the Rocket Raccoon mini, then yes, he was reasonably serious but in a completely absurd world/situation. I always thought that version of Rocket Raccoon would have made a great Saturday morning cartoon. It was silly and action-y and rife with merchandising possibilities.

100% with you on this one. Loved the original Guardians. I think they could make an exceptional movie out of those characters.
Plus, seeing Nikki on the big screen would be hot. :)

Never did get around to seeing Amazing Spider-Man. Yesterday was a tough day. Worked all night, as per usual, and a workmate collapsed on a heap on the floor and had a seizure, had to get hauled away in the ambulance, nasty thing to happen to a healthy looking guy in his thirties. i got home from work in the AM, and a long-time close friend messaged me that he has to go in for heart bypass this month; again, a healthy guy in his early forties, this snuck up on him just this year with no foreknowledge. Life is tough! Made it too hard for me to get any sleep in the daytime, so once I got tired enough to crash i opted for 8 hours of medicated rest over 3 hours of sleep and the Spidey movie.

Yes - they're in the Marvel Premiere Classics.

True. And, groan.
(Come to think of it, their early stories are also in MPC.)

Yesterday was a tough day...

Sorry to hear all that.
What was your workmate's seizure?
Where do you work all night?

They don't know. Apparently he has, once before in his life, had a seizure. the other night's one was quite severe, left him numb and almost catatonic. They'll be doing tests on him for the next few weeks. All of us who saw it happen thought it was a severe stroke he was having.

I work in a casino, in the surveillance department.

That's too bad. I hope they do work it out, and help him get better.
