So much for this Omega Flight. At least they're getting killed on panel this time. They need to learn to stay out of all Avengers books. Sigh.

True. We also learned in Incredible Hulk 11 that there are plenty of Sasquatch to go around too. I will remain calm until the actual issue comes out then :)

Here's my response I did on another board. The title of the thread was called "Avengers + Dead Canadian superheroes = $$$". I said "Meh! Just a random robot and a Wendigo. Technically you can't kill a Wendigo, but sure that will be ignored (which isnt that big of a deal). Since basically three of the 4 characters are brand new (pretty sure this is an AR) cant say there will be much impact." and another replied which a pretty bang on response...."Yeah Canucks not named Wolverine should really avoid Avengers books."....bang on, well the more recent Avengers books
Well, I know it's a month off still, but is anyone interested in reviewing this issue when it comes out?
If you can't get to a store on the day a legal Digital Copy can be sent your way.

Help me out here, is this an alternate reality, or 616? And why isn't AF getting involved no matter what universe this is set in?

I think it is an alternate reality to be honest. Not 100% sure though
Chris

This takes place in 616. During the events from the first three issues of the Avengers, 7 bio-weapons from Mars landed across the Earth, one of them hitting Canada. In Avengers 4, Captain Marvel mentions that the Canadian government will be sending Omega Flight to contain it. Also in issue 4, we see A.I.M. and the Avengers fighting over a bio-weapons site in the Savage Land.
As to why the Canadian government is sending a new Omega Flight, instead of Alpha Flight, I have no idea.
Also one of the bio-weapons landed in Perth. Maybe Alpha Flight is going to visit Australia instead and say "hello" to Le Messor?
And why isn't AF getting involved no matter what universe this is set in?
Because this time around AF are too relevant to just be killed off, so characters have been created for the sole reason of sacrificial lambs.

Well...
...last time out, our heroes were killed off-panel.
So, perhaps Marvel has "upped the ante", and will tell us, 6 months or so from now, that AF died, off panel, between the last page of Avengers 9 and the cover of Avengers 10 (without ever being seen or mentioned!).
I think that even after Vol.4 being 'not-extended' AF are in a better position and held in more regard than they were after the end of Vol.3 so I doubt they'll be killed off, on-panel or not.

Right, thanks for the answers. But now I'd like to know why the Avengers are the team to go in and save OF instead of AF? I mean, considering this is in Canadian territory, shouldn't AF be the ones to save the day? Yes I know it's an Avengers story, but couldn't AF at least have teamed up with the Avengers? I will give Marvel kudos for at least recognizing Canada still exists as part of their shared universe, but they lose marks for the name "Validator". Why can't our heroes have cool names anymore?
Oh, and does anyone else get a "Roadside Picnic" vibe from this?

... but Perth is clear across the country (west coast - I'm east). Sengsteroony lives around there, though. Maybe they'll visit him?

It does get annoying when something happens to Canada, and that great Marvel superteam Anyone-But-Alpha-Flight flies to the rescue for no adequately explored reason.

Well, more country than Queen. Canada has the same Queen I do, so I don't have to represent her to Alpha...

What's "Roadside Picnic"?
Roadside Picnic (http://www.sfsite.com/11b/rp93.htm) is a scifi novel by Russian brothers and authors Arkady and Boris Strugatsky in which an alien spacecraft comes to Earth and dumps "stuff" that creates zones in several areas around the world where alien technology, and warped physics threaten anyone who goes into them. One of "the Zones" is on the east coast of Canada (the setting for the story) into which the main character enters illegally to earn a living scavenging alien items for the black market. It's actually a pretty cool story. The title comes from some dialogue in which one character thinks the aliens who created the zones were just passing by Earth, and stopped to have a roadside picnic much like humans would while on vacation. And like humans (at that time) they just tossed their garbage out the car window as they drove away polluting the environment and thus creating the Zones.
Well, more country than Queen. Canada has the same Queen I do, so I don't have to represent her to Alpha...
... unless you mean the band? Hmm... what should I play? ... anything but Another One Bites The Dust?

Well, that is how I get to work.
I'd like to know why the Avengers are the team to go in and save OF instead of AF?
We don't actually know that there is an Alpha Flight after the events of Volume 4; they were outlaws, shut down by the government and had no official status. Although then that means the Hulk:Mayan Rule arc needs a bit of working.
Plus the Avengers have official SHIELD status as guardians of the entire world, not just America, and have experience with these particular enemies.

Phil, I hate to throw a bunch of blame on editorial staff, but...
...isn't this part of their job? And, IF these facts are supposed to be checked by 'junior editors' or such, are the Senior Editors not STILL responsible for making sure that the Juniors get all their facts correct?
But if it doesn't contradict any facts, there's nothing to get correct, which isn't a fault.
Does it actually say in the arc that AF are working for the government?
To my recollection it says something about Ross contacting them as per international protocols but that could have meant he went straight to Mac rather than through the government. Tenuous possibly but that's what I mean by a bit of working.
Besides, #10 will probably clear up as to why AF aren't about.

That'd be nice. Usually with Alpha, things get more cluttered and confusing, not more clear.

I thought at the end of Vol. 4 AF was vindicated (no pun intended) when they captured the Master. I mean they were standing around with a bunch of regular folks doing clean up at the end weren't they? No one was trying to arrest, or blow them up. And they were acting, it would seem, as Canada's official reps with the Mayan invasion. Has there been anything in or out of the comics to suggest they are still on the run?
I know the Avengers have worldwide jurisdiction (something that makes me question the intelligence of the UN since many of the heroes on the team have done some very shady things recently), but that still doesn't explain why AF isn't working alongside the Avengers on Canadian soil, assuming they aren't still wanted criminals. Of course if they are still wanted criminals then why haven't the Avengers been called in to apprehend them?
There's a difference between being wanted criminals and officially working for the Government, though.
It could well be like Vol.1 #1 where they've been disbanded.
Just because they're not on the run/wanted criminals, doesn't mean that th new Prme Minister has reinstated them as a paid, national team.
But as I say, it's all speculation till next month.

It's a bit odd since there hasn't been a hero Omega Flight since Michael Porter. Even "Alpha Strike" MIGHT have made sense. I wish they'd have been called Beta Flight. That way we could assume AF was either "Out of the Country" or it was "NHL Trade Deadline Day" so they all called in sick or something. Hopefully this is just making up for the LAST time Alpha was in an Avengers book...

So the robot character isn't human? Who do you think the other human is, a new character or someone we know? A Wendigo who 'dies', a robot of some sort who 'dies'? And the two humans, Validator and that guy? I guess time will tell.

Well, I live in... Perth and we certainly were not bombarded by bio-weapons from Mars. But then again, I don't think we live on Earth 616. :-)
I must say that the new Deodato art looks cool -- and I have no idea who the new Omega Flight characters are. Remember back in the early days of AF that there were 3 tiers: Alpha, Beta and Omega, so perhaps these are just brand-spanking new characters. Validator is a bit of a strange code name though... :-)

I've now read the issue. It was... okay. At best.
I just never got any time to care about any of the characters, and they were all in that constantly efficient, militaristic, machines-not-people mode that I find so dull. With a little 'I'm gonna dump you in battle' humour that just doesn't make up for it, to me. (All the characters in the comics, not just Omega Flight, who had about two panels of air time. I didn't even know who some of the Avengers were).

Even though i liked the addition of new Canadian heroes (well, I ASSUME they were Canadian; with Marvel, who knows?!?), i'd have to agree that the issue itself was flat and boring, confusing even. For somebody like me, who had not read the previous 9 issues, basically nothing in this issue made sense for me...I don't like that in a comic. I'm gonna stick with it a few more issues, just to see if the new (possibly dead, possibly not) Omega Flight pops up again, but then i'll drop it like the garbage it is. IMHO, it certainly lacks the entertainment and creativity of Uncanny Avengers, which has quite captivated me.

Well, Red Skull is back. Actually, this is the REAL Red Skull, whose brain was hidden away in the 40's and (in Marvel-land) just woke up last week in a cloned body. With his old-time thinking, Skullie decides to launch a war between humans and mutants, and starts his process by messing with the brain of Avalanche and having him attack and kill human people. Then Skullie creates his own army of evil super-powered freaks. And, last but certainly not least, he steals Xavier's body from his tomb, and puts a portion of Xavier's brain into his own head, thereby making Red Skull the most powerful (and most evil) telepath on Earth.
Oh, and the Uncanny Avengers have lots of hatred and mistrust of each other.
A creepy but fun good read!
