Hi all,

I'm hoping your comics knowledge can cover this...
I've got all three Teen Titans omnibuses... omnibi?... and I'm wondering - what am I missing?

There are clearly missing issues in there somewhere, but with all the weird numbering they do, it's hard to figure out exactly what?

Oh boy. Can we just explain Guardian's timeline instead? It might be easier.

It sounds like in #1 you have...

"The first 16 issues of the groundbreaking 1980s NEW TEEN TITANS"

Great.

A review I found for #2 says: "On the pre-adverts for it they said issues #21-40 (among others) but they left out #38 which is the touching "Who is Donna Troy" as Dick Grayson searches for the true roots of Donna Troy before she is married."

Again, a review for #3 says: "The real contents of the Vol. 3 Omnibus are New Teen Titans #38, Tales of the New Teen Titans #45-50, New Teen Titans (Vol. 2) #1-6, New Titans #50-61, New Titans #66-67, and Secret Origin Annual #3."

What makes things confusing is that at one point there were two series being published. Eventually, the first issues of the "new" series were tacked on at the end of the first. So issue one of volume two became (for example) issue 60 of the first volume.

http://www.comics.org/issue/40734/#233458

See the bottom where it says it's a reprint of volume 2, issue one. They did the same thing with Legion of Super-Heroes and it was confusing as hell.

So I *think* that the original Teen Titans became known as Tales of the Teen Titans with issue 41, then began reprinting the second volume (called New Teen Titans) from issue #60. This page...

http://www.comics.org/series/2851/

...says 59, but that's not right as you can tell from that issue's cover if you click on it. That book (59) reprints a whole other book.

http://www.comics.org/issue/40621/

That means that you should have...

Volume 1 (1980): 1-16, 21-40, 45-50 (The New Teen Titans and Tales of The New Teen Titans)
volume 2 (1984): 1-6, 50-61, 66-67 (New Titans)

There's a lot of Deathstroke goodness in there.

Sounds about right. So, Vol 1 17-20, 41-44 and vol 2 7-49 and 62-65... which ones are reprints and which are original stories?

There is! Also, a bit in #66-100, which I also have.

They should all be original stories, with the exception of the volume 1, #59, which I posted earlier. That's the story of "how it all began" mind you (I think it's the origin of the original version of the Titans) so you might still want it.

What you want to bear in mind is that reprint began in "Tales" at 60. So if you're looking for a specific story from volume two, you can either get that issue, or the "Tales" version by adding 59 to the issue number. For example, look at the bottom of this issue of V2#7.

http://www.comics.org/issue/41491/

It tells you where it was reprinted (V1#66).

I am questioning one thing though. The above says you have issues 45-50 of V1. Well, 42-44 are the beginning of the Judas Contract. I find it very hard to bleieve that that story would not be fully included in an omnibus. So you may actually have more than was stated earlier. I think the review for volume two did not list the content fully.

Also, I second that!

It's all good. I remember being pissed at that reprint nonsense so I knew exactly why the whole thing was confusing.

Speaking of that...This is the real content of volume two, so you DO have more than originally advertised.

Contents- this collects New Teen Titans 21-37, 39-40; Tales of the New Teen Titans 41-44; New Teen Titans Annual 1-2; Tales of the New Teen Titans Annual 3; Batman and the Outsiders 5

So of volume one, you're only missing 17-20 (which were stand alone stories, but quite good, I thought) and 45-58.
Of volume two, I think you earlier list is right.

Thanks! Yep, the second omnibus definitely has all of the Judas Contract.

Oh, and I just checked; 17-20 are in the first, so I'm not missing those!

You do?

Geez, you wouldn't think that figuring out what is included in those books should be so difficult. It doesn't help that DC apparently made errors in their solicitations.

Yeah, these omnibuses are... controversial. Just look at the Amazon reviews!

I think the only positive one is mine, because it's got a lot of Teen Titans.

They're basically just aiming for the Perez / Wolfman stuff.

Omnibus #3 seems weighted toward Donna Troy/Wonder Girl. "Who is Donna Troy?" (#38 ), the leadup to her wedding (Tales #50), "Who Is Wonder Girl?" (Vol. 2 #'s 50-55), and I think Secret Origins Annual #3 dealt with her origin.

The final original issues of Tales of the Teen Titans (#51-58 ) are really good, too. A great couple issues where Changeling goes after Deathstroke for the death of Terra, and a good two-parter against the Fearsome Five. Definitely worth picking up, and extremely cheap, too!

Thanks, Jason. Yep, #3 was weighted towards Donna, but not as much as some seem to think.

The Secret Origins annual covers the whole team.
