So, anybody catch Superman/Batman Apocalypse on DVD?

I just picked it up and watched it.

Yeah yeah, I know, i am a sucker for anything animated with super heroes, they can see me coming miles away with my wallet open...

Anyways, i didn't know what to expect. My expectations were fairly low, truth to tell; neither Bats nor Supes are anywhere near my favourite heroes.

So, it didn't surprise me that the DVD sucked. I almost considered turning it off at one point. It was drivel. At least they threw a few more heroes into the mix than were advertised, but that was it, it wasn't too exciting.

That was my impression of the first 55 minutes or so.

Then it shocked me. It got better.

WOW, did it get better!

The last 15 or 20 minutes...man, I have never seen DC resort to that level of violence, not ever! Like, violence on the level of Marvel's Hulk Vs. DVD.

Now, I don't think i am one to like violence for violence's sake...but it had me literally out of my seat, on my feet, gasping and cheering (and eventually laughing)...and I'm thinking to myself, when was the last time an animated superhero DVD did that for me? I'm not sure if one ever has, come to think of it...

So, kudoos to DC, for a fine ending to what would have been a real stinker of a movie. It almost hit the trash bin at one point. Instead, it is now my surprise movie hit of the year (well, MY year; it was apparently released in 2010. Heck, see how much I normally loathe these characters? It took me three years to get around to watching this, lol!).

I find DC's animated TV shows and movies so much better than Marvel's. Teen Titans, Young Justice, Justice League, JLU, Batman the animated series... They tell stories, sometimes intro new characters (hello, Harley Quinn), and don't just parrot comic book storylines. Ultimate Avengers was good, but most animated Marvel TV shows don't mach up with DC's best at all.

I would have to agree with you, Moke.

The violence angle isn't selling it to me.

DC have some great 'toons... but I also like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

That's a good one.
