There was a documentary on PBS tonight called "Superheroes" and it dealt primarily with the changing role of the comic book (and its heroes) in society over the past 75 years. Lots of sound bites from writers and artist current and past, as well as clips from comics through the decades.

There was even a tiny bit featuring Alpha Flight, primarily about Northstar and his role as a gay superhero. Whoever was talking about him, however (Phil Jiminez, I think), got it wrong when he said Northstar was created in 1983.

There were pictures of the post #100 AF team (in the matching costumes), Jean-Paul's wedding, the splash page to...#8, I think it was, the cover to #1...and perhaps one or two more.

It was pretty good. I missed the beginning of it, but it should be on again tomorrow night. I'll try to catch the whole thing then.

3273There's a companion book as well, which has Northstar in it featured prominently over a 3-pg spread, along with quotes from Phil Jiminez.

There's an image from AF #106, (the "I am gay!" panel), as well as the full wraparound cover to Astonishing X-Men #51 (the wedding issue).

OH here are two of the pages courtesy of Amazon's preview:

There's a third page between those two but you'll have to buy the book to see it!

Looks pretty cool; always good to see Alpha Flight get mentioned in stuff like this.
I do have a song from Rocky Horror stuck in my head now, though.

Also, refried beans.
