So, supposedly a 42 minute Chris Claremont documentary movie was just released, which talks about how he took the X-Men from nothing to Marvel's most successful franchise, saved the company, and then was forced off the comic after 17 years.

I am curious whether Alpha Flight might get a mention in this. Or how much he has to say, if anything, about John Byrne.

Yeah, I got it too. Unfortunate omission of all Alpha Flight from the 42 min movie but still fun and interesting for CC fans.

Did you get the ultimate download? With over 3 hours of extra footage, i did. Once i get through it all, I'll post if i found any goodies.

That does sound pretty cool, though I probably won't get it.
I got to meet the man once, though! He was at a con in Sydney. Pretty cool guy.

Was he forced off? I'm not surprised, but I hadn't heard it that way before.

Moe: Hey! You took my favorite swing!
Calvin: That's true, Moe. How about that?
Moe: ..uh...
Calvin: His train of thought is still boarding at the station.

I'm pretty sure he chose to leave over creative differences, rather than fired from it.

And he's been back to the title twice since then.

And he's back on X-Men again (though not Uncanny), and that makes even more than twice (also Forever, X-Treme, and probably others).

I did get the Ultimate package. More because I wanted to support the venture than listen to CC for 3 hours. At about 1hr 25m into the Ultimate interview, CC almost mentions Alpha Flight---- he refers to a 2 part Wendigo story (UXM #139-140 natch), but doesn't actually mention Alpha Flight. It does give some interesting background to those two issues though. Most of the Ultimate interview is kind of a rambling, low-energy mess of pontification but the best part is when Ann Nocenti tells the "super-hero porno" story, which is a gem!

For those who are interested:

No Alpha Flight mentions in the regular movie, or in the Plus Footage (I haven't got to the Ultimate Footage yet).

"John Byrne" is mentioned in the regular movie, twice, both times very briefly.

In the Plus Footage, which is an hour long:
- at 14:09 in, Chris talks about John Byrne, and Canada gets a brief mention
- Chris gives his thoughts on Wolverine from 16:48 to 19:05
- at 24:00, John Byrne is briefly mentioned again
- from 33:56 to 34:20, John Byrne is mentioned again

More because I wanted to support the venture than listen to CC for 3 hours.

never heard him speak before. I found him to be both fascinating and eloquent. I liked the old Marvel bullpen stories, I've only heard the ones that Stan the man used to bandy about, nice to hear them from another source.

And, as per Rob's "almost mention" of Alpha Flight...

the Ultimate Footage does touch briefly on John Byrne (and the Wendigo story-line) at about 6 minutes and 38 seconds.
