• AF #0.1 Sales Rank/Figures *UPDATED*

Diamond Comics has released it's Top 100 Sales Index for May 2011 which gives us a place rank, and index number for Alpha Flight #0.1

ICv2 has released an estimated sales figure for the issue.

Rank Index Title Price

62 46.79 ALPHA FLIGHT #0.1 $2.99

Rank #62 isn't a bad showing at all, coming in above titles such as Thunderbolts, X-Factor & Avengers Academy.

Sales of the Point 1 issues were generally quite low, so it does look promising for the title so far, especially with retailer talk of re-orders.
#1's tend to sell well, and the Variant cover will help that.
Hopefully we can expand upon that rank throughout the maxi-series and carry on a steady flow of readers.

Lets take a look at the sales figures for the previous AF titles (All information taken from http://www.icv2.com/index.php )

I've showcased the information for the first and last issues of the previous attempts at reboots, Volume 3 and Omega Flight, as well as the Chaos War oneshot and the top selling issue of the month for comparison.

Estimated figures for #0.1 are placed at 25,775, just under a third of the top selling title for the month.
This fits in with the same trend as sales for Omega Flight and statistically market for market is a stronger percentage by comparison than Volume 3 #1.
Comic sales generally were extremely low in May, and this year so far generally, a point I'll come back to later.

Volume 3 #1 started off fairly averagely for a low-tier book, rank #39 and a third of the sales of the top-selling book for that month.
The slump between #1 and #12 shows why the book was cancelled though, the top selling book for that month still selling around the same mark.

Omega Flight started off pretty well springing out of Civil War and seemed to carry it's numbers for the 5 issue mini. 48,886 would make a top 30 book in this years current economic climate. The hook of a 5 issue mini maybe attracting some customers who wouldn't want to risk picking up an ongoing.

Fast forward a few years to the Chaos War oneshot.
Oneshots don't tend to be massive sellers, but they don't always have to be. Putting something out as a oneshot is often used to test the waters.
The sales figures don't necessarilly compare to the previous titles I've listed either. Look at the top selling book for that month - it's sales are down by a third compared to the previous listed as the world's economy is in a much different place. Buying habits tend to reflect this. The $3.99 price could also play a factor into this. Chaos War also was a smaller mini-event than Marvel's usual, so readers may not have been as diehard in their spin-off sales.
The sales however were enough to make Marvel look at Volume 4.

I know my local comic shop ordered 30 copies and sold out first day. That isnt including pre orders. They were scrambling to get more as they still had people asking for copies. There is quite the buzz around this series there.

So the actual numbers would be somewhere around 26K? That's not too bad, all things considered, especially if it's followed up with re-orders. Makes me hopeful that #1 will do even better.

I wish I knew how many my LCS actually got in; I went in early afternoon on the day of release and there was only one left on the shelf, but that might not mean much if they only ordered, say, three for the shelf and the rest were pre-orders.

Not entirely sure on numbers yet.
Should be soon though.

The Diamond rank/index is all based on how copies are ordered in relation to 'Batman' which is used as the constant (Having flashbacks of Lost now).

i'm curious how well herc sells on a monthly basis. i know the incredible hercules did very well, but not sure what would justify a continued series vs cancellation. (never mind, my lazt butt clicked the link)

for instance, this issue beat out avengers academy, x-factor, daken, heroes for hire, and generation hope. i know thats like saying "at least we're not in last" i know, as stated above, past incarnations have started off well, and i'm sure this time fvl/pak/dale will readers around.

Mostly memory...the sales charts over at The Beat usually have the books ranking in the high 60's within a few hundred units of each other in the 25-26K range.
