• Northstar To Join Amazing X-Men *UPDATED*

Just announced at SDCC, Northstar is to be in the team of the newest ongoing X-title: Amazing X-Men!

    http://marvel.com/news/story/20846/s...veblog_central

"Amazing X-Men is a new ongoing series beginning in November from Jason Aaron and Ed Mcguinnes that will feature Wolverine, Storm, Beast, Iceman, Northstar and Firestar as well as the returning Nightcrawler."

"The room cheered again as the panel announced Nightcrawler will be in the brand new series “Amazing X-Men” by Jason Aaron and artist Ed McGuinness.

“Firestar is going to take her place as a major X-Men character for the first time,” Lowe added, pointing to her on the cover of the first issue along with Azazel. The panel then called Aaron and had the room cheer into the phone.
“We’ve been having to keep this a secret pretty much since Jason was writing ‘Wolverine And The X-Men,’” Lowe said, adding that this book will answer where the little blue and red Bamfs have been coming from.

“Nightcrawler is dead, but that’s not the end of his story,” Lowe continued, explaining Azazel is a pirate that is stealing something the X-Men need and Nightcrawler needs to stop him. The team on the book will also include Northstar, Wolverine, Beast, Iceman and Storm."

    *UPDATE*

CBR have an interview with Aaron regarding the title:
Northstar was [editor] Nick Lowe's suggestion and I don't think I had ever written the character before. I've been a huge fan of his though going back to the original John Byrne "Alpha Flight" series, which I loved. He'll be fun to play with because he's certainly a voice of opposition to Wolverine. He and Logan butt heads quite a bit. It's also fun to play with his powers and portray them in different ways.
    And at Newsarama:
With Northstar, he was a great fit for the role of the voice of dissension. The guy who’s going to stand up to Wolverine and tell him he’s full of crap, if he’s full of crap.

It’s a character I’ve always liked, going back to John Byrne’s Alpha Flight series, which I loved back in the day. Ed and I both wanted to do something a little different with him. As I was writing the first issue, I didn’t really know what my take on the guy was, until I started thinking about how to portray his powers — the speed and the flight are a great combination, but instead of just doing the simple thing of showing him flying around all the time like Superman, I was thinking of Disney’s animated Peter Panfilm. I love how Peter Pan flies around in that. It’s so much more relaxed and natural, and you see him just sort of sliding and tumbling through the air, and he flies in all sorts of different positions. So then it clicked — and Northstar’s even got the pointed ears. So he became my Peter Pan.

Glad it's Aaron and not Bendis. Also glad it's McGuinness!

      This is really good news!

I'm enjoying the hell out of Bendis' All New X-Men so he could have done it justice.

Aaron does have on-the-record love for AF though and he's been very cameo-happy with the team over the last few years so I'll be interested to see how it goes.

Somebody sent me that pic just yesterday.
I've really been enjoying Wolverine And The X-Men, and Nova (Ed McGuinness art). They feel like the kind of old-school comic that got me reading in the first place.

Northstar as Peter Pan doesn't really work for me, but the rest is cool. Firestar! Nightcrawler! Pirates! Old School costumes!

I'm actually starting to get excited about this title!
It looks like they're trying to Have Fun, something all too many comics have forgotten about lately.

The Peter Pan analogy doesn't quite work with me either, but I suppose it's nearer to JP than Superman would be? Possibly?

Not a fan of Northstar being Peter Pan either.

I was hoping for Magma on the new team, but Firestar is even better! It's about time she finally joined the X-Men alongside Iceman. I feel like calling this book - Nightcrawler and His Amazing Friends!

It was a typed transcript so we've got no way of knowing how it was said, but it is a brief answer eitherway.

Yeah... I'd call it brupt at the most, more than hostile. Without hearing things like tone of voice.
(If it'd been "No!", definitely hostile, though.)

Hmm... JP more Peter Pan than Superman? I dunno... good question.
