• An Alphan To Appear In The Deadpool Movie? *SPECULATION*

Now, this is to be taken with many a pinch of salt.
There be rumours, speculation and spoilers ahead.
Please don't continue if you don't want to know.
    You've been warned!

The forthcoming Deadpool Movie has been in production a long time, with drafts written off the back of 2009's X-Men Origins:Wolverine - a film which didn't exactly get amazing reviews, especially for it's portrayal of Wade Wilson (and on a personal level, for it's bastardization of the Hudsons).

The project suffered several hurdles and wasn't officially greenlit until after CGI tests had been leaked, to great public appreciation, which may have stoked interest in the film.

The screenplay for the film is by the creators of Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and in the period of time when the project looked like it wasn't to happen, was leaked online.

Now we here at AlphaFlight.net in no way endorse any leaks or illegal activity.
I haven't downloaded or viewed a copy of the screenplay.
I don't intend to link to it, or recommend anyone view it.

However, with the recent release of the Red Band Trailer a certain scene caught my eye, which prompted me to do some digging online:

A lot of articles on the film have been doing the rounds on the internet, one in particular from earlier in the year which I discovered, justifying my thoughts.
The article lists that the character of Wyre is included in the original screenplay, and the following screenplay extract seems to confirm it:

Now, obviously, the screenplay will have had many revisions since the original draft, especially in light of the leaked version, but as per the article a number of things reportedly in the screenplay have made it into the trailer and the film's IMDb page.

Neither Kane, Sluggo or Wyre are listed in the IMDb page (although there are characters listed as 'Super Slave' #1 & 2) and in an interview with Empire Magazine, director Tim Miller had the following to say:
We had Garrison Kane in there for a while, but in the final round of budget cuts we had to take him out, because he was a pretty expensive dude. He’s got these bionic arms that change shape; he would have been a visual effect for a large part of the movie. And as it turned out, a visual effect too far. I went through the list of Marvel characters and picked a few others I thought could be visually spectacular and fun.
That, combined with a scene in the Trailer with Angel Dust chewing on a matchstick, very much in the manner described above, makes me think that maybe we don't see a post-Weapon K Wyre and just the scene captured above, or the figure could be Marrow or another unnamed mutant/experiment victim.

Wyre first appeared in 1992's Alpha Flight #114, created by Simon Furman, Pat Broderick and Bruce Patterson, with an origin largely tied to Wild Child, whom he came to kill, before eventually joining the team.

The character was last seen in #130, when the first Volume ended.

If it is actually Wyre it's doubtful that any of his AF connections will be incorporated, but for a bit-part character it'd be a really nice touch to see him on screen even briefly, especially as the film appears to be partly based upon the Deadpool/Death '98 Annual which used the Weapon K setting(and also cameo-ed Vindicator, briefly).

Either way, I'll be watching the film, and staying till the credits, with my fingers crossed.

Deadpool is scheduled for release in North America on February 12, 2016.

I'm excited for this movie. I think it's going to be great

now on topic. I was never a fan of Wyre so even though it's a possible Alpha Flight cameo I'm impartial to it

I'm hoping that the character is indeed Wyre, but based on the quote by Tim Miller it is possible that they may have grabbed the X-Men TV character "Spyke" for that shot.

The skin colour and hair makes me think it's not Spyke, but things can be changed I suppose.

Have you got a link at all?

All I've seen is other fan speculation, and while they probably are bones & it probably is her I can't find Miller state it anywhere and there's supposedly no mention of Marrow in the leaked screenplay.

That figure looks female to me, so I'm going Marrow - and the protrusions are thick and bonelike, so again, Marrow.

I don't even have the Deadpool / Death annual (never found a copy).

Oh yeah; there's a near certain chance it's Marrow in the image - it just led me to the news of Wyre being in the original screenplay.

Well, he's not listed in the imdb credits, but neither is Marrow...
There are two "Super Soldiers" though...

      Nope, no Wyre.
The character in the above screengrab isn't in it for more than the trailer and isn't named in the credits as it's a non speaking part.

Angel Dust has definitely taken the role that Wyre fulfilled in the original screenplay(and the scene above), and the matchsticks are a theme.

If DP2 is Deadpool vs Cable & X-Force there's a chance Kane and Wyre could be in that as villains that both sides eventually join together to thwart.

Maybe we should start tweeting Ryan Reynolds now, and asking for Kane & Wyre to be included in the sequel?

We consolidated, in the first draft, Ajax has really three underlings. It was Wyre, it was Garrison Kane and it was Sluggo. And then ultimately due to budget, we had to consolidate those into one character. And we wanted the movie to have a really strong kick-ass female presence. That was a mandate from Tim, so we introduced, we introduced Angel Dust as sort of a combination of those three to provide the muscle for Ajax.
      There we go!

I'm surprised they would want to use wyre as he hasn't appeared since the 90s. Sluggo I'm not familiar with

He was an X-Force Department K/Weapon Prime character, like Kane.
He appeared in one of the Deadpool mini's & his second series, so at least he's actually met Wade.

He did? I honestly don't recall that. What issue was that?
