So, I put AF on hold long enough to read the Northstar mini from the 90's.

Oh, boy.

He battles Arcade.
Well! That's something new and never done before.

At least the long hair is gone. But it's white.
ALLLL white.

It's not the worst thing I have ever read, but I'm finding the more 90's comics I'm getting into, I'm now reaching the era of the downfall of comics.
Everything is rushed, over-dramatic (but lacking heart), and the art can make me go mad trying to follow it. And panel-jumping-confusion.
Is it just me?

Hmmm... Not that it makes much difference, but you might've been slightly better off reading that after volume 1 ended - that's when it was published / set.

90s comics are a byword among collectors.
Oh sure, there are people who got into comics in the 90s, many more than there used to be, considering the time frame - but a lot of collectors (from what I've heard) hate the period.
Linkara, a comics reviewer I watch, is a good example.

Yeah, I have caught that as I've been reading it. I'm not too concerned, though. I've read enough spoilers for AF things that I think I can get the gist.

I thought this might be so, but being I haven't been reading comics long myself, I wasn't completely sure.
I can barely make it past the art.
Everything just seems SO SERIOUS.
The bulk, the bulge, the everything.

I have one more issue to read of the NS mini, and then I'll go back to AF. It was a pretty quick read (especially considering how much my eyes had to adjust to the style of art and panel placement, etc).

You know, I have to wonder sometimes (LIKE, RIGHT NOW), I stick by this series. I read issues #100-#103 today. Lobdell is now the writer. Fine, whatever. The art got kind of super screwy. Fine, whatever.

It's been a few weeks since I have read AF. I've been taking a small break. I really liked the X-Factor issue. That was a bit of fun, but I'm on a break right now.
I'll get back into reading them again soon.

Not to be all, "HERE'SMYBUSINESS!", but my mom passed last week, so I haven't been into much of anything lately (she was in the hospital 2 weeks before passing).
Anything I've been reading has been mainly silver age stuff (so no AF) because I need the goofy nonsense right now. :)

Y'know, that's what frustrates me so much when people say 'the world has got darker, so we need our fiction to be darker'. I find it's the exact opposite - the worse things are in my life (and the world in general), the lighter I need my fiction to be to compensate.

I have been reading Silver Age Teen Titans which is goofy as Hell (especially The Brave and the Bold stuff), and Stan Lee's Silver Surfer (which is so hilariously melodramatic and fantastic).
It's been like medicine for me. :)

I have the first two Archives books. I wasn't really anticipating getting into silver age TT when I got them, but it's been working out for me so far. :D

I started reading Wein and Wrightson's Swamp Thing, which is excellent so far, but it was just too sad for me to read right now.

I can imagine something like Swamp Thing would be. I've never really thought about that one, but that's more because it's not on my radar than anything.
Also, an even Moore famous run is by a writer I can't stand (but I'd get kicked out of comics for admitting who).

hahahaha, It's okay, I caught the clue in there. ;)
And, honestly, the way I look at it is: We all love AF and Byrne has openly admitted he doesn't give a sh*t about his own creation, and he's also been known not to always be the greatest to fans. And I adore Neal Adams' art, and he argued with a friend of mine at a con about the exact geographical location of North Carolina (my friend was born and raised there, and Neal Adams was completely wrong, but of all things to argue about with a fan at a con? really?), and he is known for not being the nicest either.

I try not to let these things bother me or sway me from reading or enjoying their work.

However! I did draw the line with Roc Upchurch's latest stunt. THAT burned me forever on him. And that reminds me: I REALLY need to change my avatar here.

... It's his writing I can't stand, though. I don't know enough about the writer to say I can't stand him; only strongly imagine I couldn't if I met him. I don't think I'd like him, but I'd be open to being proven wrong.

My childhood best friend's dad built a shed in their backyard when we were little. He used half for his yard tools, and the other half he made into a playhouse for us. They put an old school desk in there where the lid opens and you can store stuff in it, and we had lawn furniture in there to sit on. It was awesome.

Yes, fanboys are notorious for not accepting dissenting opinions. And they tend to turn real childish real quick if anybody disagrees with them. Binary thinking is a hell of a thing.

On the one hand, I don't want to be mean, especially to you. I like you.
On the other hand, I spent the first half of my life listening to people telling me men are awful, men suck, men are the worst. The mental scars that caused will never go away. I don't want to deal with sexism on my Alpha Flight forum.
I don't like sexism. I don't like it when it's done to women, and I like it even less when it's done to me.

I wasn't talking about you, sorry I didn't use a disclaimer of "I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT ALL MEN, BUT", it didn't occur to me that you would think I was talking about you.

No, I am not Indigenous American at all.
But my friend is, and she shared her Amazon booklist with me, and some of the books looked fascinating, so she suggested I get some and we could read them together.
So, while browsing her books, that book up there popped up as a recommendation.
The topic goes quite well with some local volunteer work I will be doing this Fall.
This book was not on her list, but she got a copy and is reading it with me.

It is a research book, complete with footnotes.
When I was in school, the only time we got any solid Native history was in 3rd grade. lol.
So, a lot of this information is new to me.
And it's a harsh and heavy book. It is dense with information, with additional research to back up her research.
It does not read smoothly, and it can be very overwhelming, but I keep on with it.
