Thanks for posting that Phil. So far everything about this maxi-series and the .1 issue is hitting all the right notes. The only thing now is for Marvel to promote it more as the company has been absent when it comes to pushing it. Not that the creative crew hasn't been out there doing interviews and posting on their websites, I just would hope folks like Brevoort would be shilling it in his Talk To The Hat column, and that they would post something about the .1 in the May solicits on the Marvel website. Still, very exciting.
Man, can't wait for May to roll around! :D
It's too bad there weren't more Byrne-created Alpha characters around for them to use. Unfortunately, Most of them have been killed off (Wild Child, Diamond Lil, Nemesis, Bochs/Box, Smart Alec, the Master, etc...), while some are stuck in X-Men (like Madison).
There's always Pink Pearl?
Dana :D
Maybe they finally got around to digging up Radius :-)
If---if---the maxi-series becomes an ongoing series, I hope that the editors and writers and artists will be willing to say whether:
(1) the Eugene Judd with short bones who was nearly disembowled by Marrina is the same Eugene Judd who is tall and has a sorcerer living inside of him;
(2) the Elizabeth Twoyoungmen/Talisman who was told by her father that the Coronet of Enchantment could never be removed is the same Elizabeth Twoyoungmen/Talisman who had the Coronet taken away and worn by her (aged) father;
(3) the Michael Twoyoungmen who successfully operated on Eugene Judd [see # 1] and helped Aurora with her cracked ribs is the same Michael Twoyoungmen who (while wearing the Coronet of Enchantment)
let Heather/Vindicator kill "Snowbird"
(4) the Aurora and Northstar who use logic and reasoning are the same Aurora and Northstar who couldn't figure out that any contact negates their powers made them a liability to the team, and in fact never mentioned it;
(5) the same team that confronted a demented Lionel Jeffries who had turned a hospital full of innocent patients, doctors, and nurses into monsters is the same team that would even consider for a second making the self-same Lionel Jeffries a member of the team (did I mention that Lionel supposedly "cured himself" and the only one to have witnessed this is his brother Madison Jeffries, whom Lionel had used his monster-making powers on)
It's probably obvious that I think it is a terrible idea to graft what could be a good run onto the "Mantlo Era" continuity.
I agree with Hankpym...I also think the best approach is to not address said continuity screw jobs, especially Puck's "origin". I really don't think there is any way to fix Puck without some sort of reboot, since several authors have established that Puck used to be tall and that Razer was the cause of his short stature.
The only way I can see to do said clean up in aisle 4 (hockey gear), is to do a soft reboot/retcon...Say Puck returns and he mentions having Achondroplasia (maybe more than once) as Byrne intended and originally stated in the book, but have no character in the book ever mention Razer again. Said retcon/reboot would only be successful if it was consistent moving forward from that point on, was set in stone in future Handbook Puck entries and if certain fans actually allowed it to be Puck's accepted history (there is no guarantee of the last one, though...Even though I personally, would be fine with it).
Dana
OR...the Razor/Puck was really a Skrull!
yknow...I never count the continuity error that said Bochs and Jefferies knew each other before Byrne's run. Actually I think it was kind of corrected when Jeffries says in issue #63 (I think) that when he hooked up with bochs to get revenge on Omega Flight it was the first time they met. So....I just chalked up Mantlo's error as having scramble mess with jeffries and boch's mind since he touched them both. I also attribute that to boch's insanity....since it made no sense for him to suddenly to go nuts when Mac said he was a stable individual.
Oooooo...I'm getting jealous! Tigra is H-O-T!

Do not miss a single issue of "Alpha Flight." That's all I'm saying. RT @MattSD1 Two questions: 1) Where is Purple Girl?
From the ComicVine coverage of C2E2's Fear Itself panel:
Bold-ing is my addition.Quote:
Alpha Flight (no visuals provided) will show what's going on North of the border. The original team is back. The government has changed and Alpha Flight is fighting a new government super group.
Edit; also similar to the post below but with more a hint

Will Puck be in Alpha Flight? "Maaaaaaaybe."

Puck in Alpha Flight? "Maybe," Van Lente answered.
Hmm... New team? That's a cool idea, whether they use new characters or old.
But I hope it's a real superteam, and not yet another Weapon X style thing (the program, not the comics series).
Still, either way, could be cool.

Puck could be in it? And Purple Girl? Hunting down the other members of Alpha Flight? Interesting...I mean, yes, it's been done before in AF, but still...I'm hooked.
I wouldn't mind seeing a team based on villains or even a Weapon X style thing, because then AF could cut loose and kick there sorry *ss*s back to the Stone Age.
Holy Carp! Who could be on a new government team and as adversaries to Alpha Flight? Especially, if Van Lente/Pak and Co. are trying to stick with Byrne-created content?

What will happen with Northstar now that Alpha Flight is coming back? He'll be on both Alpha Flight and the X-Men.
On Diamond's June Solicits it lists Alpha Flight #1 as being $3.99 and #1 of 7. Isn't it an eight issue maxi-series, or is the .1 issue being lumped in? Also, will all the books be priced at $4, or is it just the first issue? Not that I won't buy them, just wondering.
Northstar being on more than one team makes more sense than Wolverine being on three to four teams, any day of the week.
Dana
I'd love to see the original Omega Flight as the new Gov't ops with maybe the brain patterns of Jaxon in the robot formerly known as Delphine. What better way to strike "fear itself" in Guardian and Vindicator than to have the man who (sort of) killed Mac first and the person/robot who kidnapped Heather and then impersonated her dead husband. The only problem is that I think only Wild Child is still alive from that original group... unless the new writer is somehow able to revive them as well.
DIGGER
Oh, I agree Suzene...My post wasn't a response to your comment, it was a response to the Q&A "What will happen with Northstar now that Alpha Flight is coming back? He'll be on both Alpha Flight and the X-Men. "
I'd rather Northstar be with Alpha where he has a much better chance to be used and written well. I guess I was making more of a comment on the absurdity of Wolverine being on so many teams, where Jean Paul could do it easily.
Dana
Wild Child is dead as far as we know (killed by Omega Red), then again...He didn't appear in the Wolverine in Hell storyline (or did he?), if that means anything. Flashback is the only other known possible survivor, he's just gone into retirement/hiding. Truthfully, Robot MX39147 (A.K.A. Delphine Courtney) could easily return, since as a robot, her memories and programming could have been saved somewhere.
Dana
Since her body became Vindicator's flight suit, it'd be great to see her come back with her original body, by taking over the Vindicator suit and rebuilding herself. After all, Heather could just switch to the green suit from Volume 2...Quote:

I'm just imagining the visuals of Heather's suit coming to life and trying to kill her...awesome!
We've all been there.
I don't know, though, having Robot MXPX74656 come alive again that way... I've always worried somebody would do that, since it'd retcon the way she died, and be a bit... spidermanblackcostumey. Dana's 'downloading her memories into a new body' idea seems likelier.

"I procrastinate, especially when the task is unpleasant."
The original quote from the press conference was:
At the time I presumed that meant 8 issues plus a 0.1, but reading it now it definitely looks to be a 0.1 plus 7 issues.Quote:
At the moment, the series is slotted for 8 issues — with a special Point One issue illustrated by Ben Oliver out in May.
"I imagine, that if there is enough audience demand, there will be a ninth and subsequent issue," Van Lente said.
As to the price; these days all Marvel first issues are $3.99 with most 2nd's going down to $2.99 BUT with this being specifically launched with the careful phrasing of Maxi-series, it could well all be $3.99.
Yeah...To me, it seems odd that a machine with a highly-intelligent, vengeful mind like Dephine wouldn't have had a back-up plan of some sort. She was terrified of Madison Jeffries (and knew he was loyal to Mac), which is why she never recruited him into Omega Flight...One would think she'd have some contingency in place if she were ever to meet him.
Dana
I can see how 8 issues is a cromulent reading, but I still read '8 with a .1' as either 9 or 8.1 .
Yah, me three.
That, and the idea that she survived what Madison did to her just seems silly. And, she survived all this time, then decides NOW (for any given value of now, after all this time) to come out? And, what, Madison never ever thought to check for that? And, he made the suit out of the thinking parts?
It would require way too many leaps of thought... but simply 'downloaded into a new body' totally makes sense to me as is.
