We we can argue that since Thor is a god, what is hair to him? Nothing, he probably choose the aspect he wants to be. So why not choose the color he likes depending of his mood. or why as hair like hair? he could have hair made of real fire, why not? He's a god, no?
Touché
Sorry about misspelling your name Allan. I can see how that could really flip a person off.
Anyway, you are free to cloud the issue as you will. This is well past the point of silly already. The word used to describe the gods hair was *red*, not fiery. Just red.
You want red to be blonde to be fiery to be whatever, thats good for you. You go with that.
I'm going to drop this, because, as said SEVERAL times already - by me as well as other - this arguement is silly, but I'm not sure you even know WHAT the issue is, and you're not listening to my side. You want to be right, fine, have it your way.Quote:

But hey :D
The word may remain the same, but would all historical text writers have the same definition of brown, or would some describe Auburn of mild ginger as brown. What we need is somone who went to the Pub with Thor, or at least knew his hairdresser.Quote:

Pay close attention to section 2.1(a).
Also, if 'brown' has always been 'brown, then how come dictionary.reference.com adds the following?

Indeed. Pay close attention to your dictionary. The same dictionary reference you provide below lists the roots of both yellow and blond. Their presence in the language, at least according to your link above, drastically reduces the chances the word red might signify either, or either might refer to red.Quote:

Seriosuly? Sounds shift as languages travels around in time and across space. Brun is the linguistic ancestor of todays brown, even as cynn is of kin, thunor of thunder, et al. Philologists can explain how and why this occurs, but if you thought I was saying the word brown as we have it today was always in use, you must have missed the *essentially* part. Brown is the word the evolved out of the a root, brun, that has long been assoicated with that range of colours we have long consider to be brown.Quote:

Man, people of different languages and cultures must not be able to talk about **** in your world, if a simple commonly recognized colour supposedly cause so much grief.
Anyway, cheers!
Well, to give Allan credit, he's trying at least to backup his saying with proof and for those of us that care, I do like to have the link even if I know how to google a topic. I may not understand everything you all said, but that reply sounded for me very mean and yes, I draw my own conclusion and it's plainly evident.Quote:

I would provide links as well, but it would be absurd since all one has to do is hit a few keys and take their pick. The burden of proof is not on me. I would willing join the "contender" on a forum that is full to the brim with people who have PhD's and Masters degrees and who are themselves Scandinavian to debate the matter, I happen to know a few. That as opposed ot trying to obfuscate a simple matter amongst a bunch of people who are largely innocent of the subject.Quote:

Okay, I now have no hair due to tearing it out after reading this thread.
My dads still bigger than everyones and surely if you google to often it can make you go blind. (Depending on your interpretation of google)
Hope that helps.
