I'm cautiously optimistic.
So am I.
A lot of Alpha Flight's problem is that they're considered too linked to Canada for a lot of American readers.
I think that having the team set in space will actually help that.
And Agent Carter was very well written.
Aw, that's terrific news! I'm glad it's in a super-heroine solo title, which makes me feel like all is well with the comic book world. It's like everything all came together for us!
Space-based Alpha Flight is something we've seen before, not recently, but still it's not unfamiliar territory.
Not sure which panel at NYCC to catch for this big news. I'm only going one day (because tickets are dmmmmmm hard to get) and I'd prefer not to spend hours waiting around for it.
As someone pointed out to me on Twitter this could be a big chance to get the Plodex seen as more of a threat in the MU.
UPDATED with the actual wording used, thanks to CBR.
Of all books to appear in would have not guessed that. It's going to be great exposure for them with her upcoming movie
Part of me thinks the master will appear too. She did "kill" him afterall and had a strong connection to the Plodex if they do appear
*crosses fingers and whispers softly* please treat them with respect.
Now, this one I'm looking forward to!
... though I don't think the movie will do much for Alpha. They generally don't lead to bigger sales (or so I've heard, I don't know) - and won't it be too late?
I'm hearing Alpha will have a guest appearance in one story, not be running characters in the series?
(Unless there's a scene where they run, but that's not what I meant and you know it!)

It's a positive step to move AF away from the X-Men though, which puts them firmly in Marvel Studios/Disney territory...
All the information that was said is the one line that's above, so we don't know how big their involvement is, though it does make them sound like recurring characters.
Early to say yet, but there are a few options:

When Carol gets to that station, is she going to stay there?
Sounds like she will stay and be the first line of defence with S.W.O.R.D. (Basically space SHIELD)
The article says that there's been a lot of designing involved for it, so I'd imagine they'll be using it a fair bit. Especially as it's the hook for the book:
Quote:
"Marvel really wanted us to design what her mission is within the universe," says Fazekas. "We know what S.H.I.E.L.D.'s mission is, we know what the Avengers' mission is, we know what Guardians of the Galaxy's mission is. So how does Captain Marvel fit into all that?"
Quote:
"This is really meant to be the next level for Captain Marvel," says series editor Sana Amanat. "Carol is really meant to be a soldier and a commander, and also a diplomat. We're really trying to build up this space complex and this space world. You'll really feel like there's an extension of the Avengers world into space, but not necessarily lost out in the Guardians of the Galaxy cosmos. It's rooted in Earth but also an extension into the galaxy."
Quote:
"[Marvel] wanted to give her a specific mission," Fazekas continued. "I think they wanted to give Carol her own thing that was hers, separate from the Avengers."
Sounds like we could get a minimum of 6 issues out of it, worst case scenario, especially as she is pulling double-duty on Earth, as part of The Ultimates...Quote:
"One of the first things that happens when she comes to the station is they're going to come upon a ghost ship, what seems to be a ghost ship," says Fazekas. "No crew, or a dead crew. What we'll find out over the first six issues is that it's not a coincidence that it's headed towards Earth and Captain Marvel."
Oh, right... Didn't read the 'map your show' article, because I've already wasted too much time online this morning.
Also, from your original article:
"This mission involves Carol being on a space station above Earth"
Keywords: "This mission involves" (emphasis mine).
Sounded like a one-off story - but if we kinda get an Alpha ongoing, with a headliner who's likelier to sell, yay!
I know that's kinda the opposite to my take on Northstar And Alpha Flight on the 'How Would People Feel If...?' thread, but I prefer something that doesn't pretend to be Alpha Flight but is to something that pretends to be Alpha Flight but isn't.
Wait, we're getting the Ultimates, too? In what's going to pass for 616? (Which is, incidentally, the time right now!)

Yeah, it could go either way.
It'll be interesting to see who they use. I don't think Shaman & Snowbird will serve much purpose, but could see Mac, Jeffries, Sas, Puck, JP & JM plus some new creations. And again, Marrina as an alien could be a plot point.
The Ultimates are in title-name only, they're all 616 characters.
You know, this got me thinknig about something from a few years ago. I ran into Mark Pannicia, the editor for the 4th series at Midtown Comics (see big article I wrote about it: http://www.alphaflight.net/showthrea...ll=1#post80478 ) and he mentioned something like this as a pitch:
I wonder if this Captain Marvel series is that very same pitch rejected years ago. And now I remember how the non-Canadianness of their role on an outpost defense space station would have bothered me. Well years later and without their own series, I'm not so bothered by it. If it were the setting for their very own series yeah that would be weird, but as a guest appearance in Captain Marvel's book, it seems kind of nifty actually.Quote:

Which AF characters could fly in space without any special suit.... Guardian, Vindicator, Box... maybe Shaman? The rest would be more space station crew. I could see Sasquatch being helpful there since he was a scientist, the rest would be pretty useless. Super speed for Northstar and Aurora so they can do deliveries faster aboard the station?
Not going to lie I forgot about her too. Seems unlikely she will appear in secret wars now
UPDATED with Video Thanks to Game In My Vein.
So it sounds like it was Marvel Editorial's idea to bring Alpha Flight into the title, to bring them more into the MU.
I'd say they'll be fairly regular in it, at least to start with, maybe springing to their own title if the appearances go down well?
That's awesome. I also think your right they are trying to move them from the X-Men lore to make them more accessible. Unlikely we will see them in their own movie, but maybe cameos?
So we've got those vultures working for us for a change?* Wow!
* Meant purely as a paraphrase of a line from The Terminator, not a genuine insult.
There've already been references, so maybe!
Most of them are probably suitable in terms of origin - all but the twins, really, of the originals.
Mac and Heather ≈ Iron Man, Sas ≈ Hulk, Shaman ≈ Dr. Strange, Snowbird ≈≈ Thor, Marrina's alien, and Puck is non-powered. So they've all got a precedent in the MCU.

My guess would be that the space mission involves the Q`wrrlln and that would get Mac involved.
That could be cool!
I'm thinking, though, it's just them up there on a satellite, guarding Earth with S.W.O.R.D.

add the title to you pull lists, buy two or three for your friends. tweet, facebook, and blog your asses off. the only thing they care about is sales and if they think AF will sell titles we`ll see them all over the place. thanks for the heads up AF.net. you guys are awesome.
As a heads-up, apparently AF are in tomorrow's Avengers #0 with Cap Marvel, presumably as part of the A-Force segment of the issue!
Not sure how much though.
Generic Preview is at CBR.
There are 4 covers for it.
Really? That's good news and great exposure. I wonder if they will appear in the Ultimates book as isnt Marvel a member there too?
She is indeed!
I should have the issue in my hands in about 16 hrs so I'll let people know how minor the appearance is (without spoiler details)
If people are going to pick up Avengers #0 based on the information I was given yesterday, they may want to check the article I just published: http://alphaflight.net/content.php?8...f-Alpha-Flight
The main thing I take from the video is "SWORD is now Alpha Flight." Say what? How in the world does that end up happening? Canada's national super-team ends up taking over extra-terrestrial defense of the planet? I really hope they'll explain this...

One of my first reactions was, 'but the Phase III movies have been announced!'. The article covers that. (Though I don't know the dates of the other movies, so I don't know if they've been pushed forwards or back. Technically, in this context, I don't know if forwards means earlier or later, either, but that's just me.)
Well, of course it makes no bones. Insects are invertebrates!Quote:

I love this! So, we'll be having those dates in 2020, will we? Interesting. And a movie company decided it? Not a calendar company? :DQuote:

Well, looks like Danvers is leaving the space program - what this means for AF is unclear: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/02/a...ic-series.html
Good. The Space program concept was a bust. I was one of the few who didn’t mind the change and was super excited about it. Really thought it would be so much more
after the initial volume the writing was not my cup of tea and I lost all excitement and hype
There's a new writer as well, I believe.

I don't think it was a complete bust; Puck, Sas and the name Alpha Flight probably have the most exposure they've had since the 80's.
I agree that it didn't quite stick as well as it could have, and the change in creative team probably added to that.
I enjoyed it on the whole, I wish it had been established more clearly how the home/away teams worked and that Danvers was only boss of the Space division, but I get why it wasn't.
And newspaper press releases are pretty common now, since the Disney merger, especially when they're tied to the MCU characters.
