Summer Movie Reviews

Its that time again. Those wonderfully high budget, things exploding everywhere, and stuff your face with as much popcorn(or Nachos and Cheese for some of us but I digress) summer movie time. Alot of great stuff is coming out this year. Iron Man, Hulk, Batman 2, the long awaited Indiana Jones Movie, and many others. Im going to see Iron Man tonight and Im quite excited about it. I wont reveal any spoilers. But after I see it and the other big blockbusters ill post a small unrevealing review and give it a rating such as this.

I just saw the movie The Ruins and i give it 1 {guardian} out of 5. So enjoy those summer movies and post your comments here. See you all at the movies!

I'm with you on the summer movies. My son is especially eager to see "Iron Man"; and we can't wait to see "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"! :D

Im leaving in a couple of hours to go see Iron-Man. For those going to see it. Make sure you stay till the end of the credits for a very special treat. I got a tip from a friend that saw the midnight show to wait till the end. I have no idea what it is but cant wait to find out. God Im such a fanboy :D

Well I saw Iron Man last night. I really really liked it. Stayed true to the character. The supporting cast was excellent. The special effects rocked. The big suprise after the credits made the people in the theatre go crazy. Overall I give {guardian} {guardian} {guardian} {guardian} out of 5. Next up is Indiana Jones. Only been waiting 20 years for this one.

Thanks for the tip. I hate missing those post-credit things, and I'd not have thought to stay for one in Iron Man.

edit: Don't forget Spiderwick! Also a good movie.

Also forget to mention another Comic movie. The Spirit will be haunting theatres this summer as well. I caught the trailer during Iron Man. Its directed my Frank Miller and based on the classic noir hero created by the Will Eisner. It appears to be filmed in the same style as Sin City.

I saw Iron Man Friday night with my boy. I have to say that of all of the superhero movies out there, this one has trandslated the absolute best from drawings and animation to, ahem, "live action". It beats the hell out of the IM animated movie or his apppearances in the Ulimate Avengers. AndRobert Downie Jr. looked like Tony Stark. I never was a big Iron Man fan, but it was like watching the comic.

The Iron Monger was an awesome enemy to put in the movie!

Oh, I don't think that anyone mentioned Hancock yet... the upcoming Wil Smith movie in which he plays a superhero. The trailers look pretty cool!

i'm not up on all the lingo for this forum. so i don't know what pm means. but as far as the the post credit surprise. I had a friend tell me to wait and see it. it was worth hanging around for. it was a visit from nick fury pertaining to the subject of the introduction of the Avengers. it was kinda of cool. for they used a black actor to portray him. i was fimiliar with the actor but i can't remeber the actor's name sorry.
and you were right it was a cool movie, especially the part when he first tested his prototype boots, oouch!

sorry about that. and to anyone else that it spoiled, sorry also. thanks for the info. i'll keep it to memory and do better next time. old dogs can learn new tricks too. hee, hee. it is still an awsome movie. i suggest anyone to go see it. it worth the money, i think. can't wait for the other marvel movies to come out like hulk and ect.

Saw it and I think it was the best Marvel movie ever made... so far. It looked good, the writing was great and the acting was perfect.

I've never really been a fan of Iron Man, but I've heard so much good about this film, I'd really like to see it.

I loved the Iron Man movie. Best thing i have seen since Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
Robert Downey Jr showed, again, why he is one of the world's great actors.
Wish i had known about staying until the end of the credits, though. Missed out. :x

I just saw "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" with my son, and all I can say is, that it's wonderful! I would rate it better than "The Temple of Doom", and as good as "The Last Crusade". (The original, "Raiders of the Lost Ark", was the best.)

"The Crystal Skull" has enough action --as well as nostalgia-- to satisfy both old and new fans. (My husband, who saw the movie on opening night at a midnight show, said I'd really like the ending --and I did.) Hope you get to see and like this movie as much as we did.

I plan to see Indie next week. Meanwhilst, I loved Iron Man!

But I also saw recently a world premiere of a new stage musical: The Wall. Yes, the Pink Floyd one.
I loved that! Wow! And it premiered here in Wint'ry Canberra.

I wasn't overly impressed with Iron Man. My problem with it was the main battle. With everything that had gone before and the great CGI, I was expecting a little more than what we got.

Hello all :D wanted to get to this sooner but things being things could not. Anywho. Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Only been waiting about 20 years for this one. Needles to say I had some expectations. I was able to avoid any and all spoilers so knew nothing going in. My only fear was that there might be to much focus on Indiana's age. I was dreading hearing to many "Im to old for this s---" comments. Glad to say that wasnt the case. After some early acknowledgment that he put on some years the movie got into gear. The textbook over the top opening action scene did not dissapoint and as the movie progressed I found myself enjoying the movie as if I was 10 years old all over again. Maybe my opinion is slightly influenced by nostalgia but I really really loved it. Over all I give it {guardian} {guardian} {guardian} {guardian} {guardian} . If you liked the other Indiana Jones films I dont think you will be let down one bit.

That and just a lot of waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top scenes even for an Indy movie. I found myself rolling my eyes just way too often.

Yeah the scenes where over the top as they usually are. I think maybe they made them more over the top to compensate for his age maybe. For me though it did feel like an Indy film. Before I went to see the midnight show I watched all 3 that day prior. Seeing them in sequence like that might have made the difference for me. Other than his appearence it felt somewhat seemless.

Well The Incredible Hulk is up next for me. I had high hopes for the Ang Lee version but like most did not enjoy it. This one looks to be like it should be good. Also stay after the credits. Apparently there is a scene which is some follow up to the bonus scene at the end of Iron Man.

Well My girlfriend is dragging me to see the movie the Strangers tonight. Its not something I was planning on seeing but we have a whole I pick than you pick thing worked out. Its supposed to be based on a true story so maybe it could be interesting. At least Ill have some nachos and cheese to get me through the whole thing should it be less than entertaining.

I can see the 'not an Indy' thing. The time period and the paradigm shift (which affected both the villain and the phlebotenum) took it out of the original.

I thought it was a lot of fun, but not the best movie I've seen lately.

I went to see the last one on Friday, but it sold out about the time I hit the line, but it turned out Hulk was on, so we watched that instead.

I enjoyed it. Not in danger of becoming a fave, but I enjoyed it. I think they did a good job; they combined lots of good bits about the TV series (including at least one bit of music) with bits of the comics, and made an overall good film. First Hulk movie I'm likely to buy.

I'm with Mick on this. I enjoyed the Hulk a lot. Nice to see that a writer can take the dross that went before and incorporate it in a believable way, so that the sequel is watchable and enjoyable. Preferred it to Iron Man.

I took it as a sequel to the first movie. It seemed to fit, on the run for five years etc. That said, imho it fits as a sequel to either.

According to the creators, Incredible Hulk is supposed to be an unofficial sequel, but with it's own storyline. IE: all the crud about Bruce's father wouldn't be talked about (which, IMO, was the major contributor to the mess that was Ang Lee's "Hulk"). They also wanted to try to tie in flavours of the original Incredible Hulk television series (supposedly, Lou Ferrigno makes a cameo in the movie, but not having seen it, I can't corroborate that).

I DID, however, see Prince Caspian last week. Well worth the money, IMO, a great companion piece to Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, and a rarity in that I find the sequel better than the original (which is saying something, because I LOVE LW&W)

Saw Hulk today and really liked it. Lots of little things thrown in for fans of the comics or the old TV show and yes Ferrigno not only has a cameo but also voices the Hulk.

Gonna see Hulk today. Got delayed with work this weekend. Saw the Strangers. It did little else but reaffirm my opnion that Liv Tyler is indeed still hot. It claims to be based on a true story. I did a little research on it and that could not be farther from the truth. The closest thing I could find was that there was a similar murder in the same town in the 1960s. Not the year 2005 as they claimed in the movie. All in all its what I expected. Kinda scary, violent, and mildly creepy. But at least Liv Tyler is still hot. I give it {guardian} {guardian} one of those is for Liv. I tried not to read anyones Hulk reviews yet trying to be as surprised as possible. Hopefully Ill go see it later today.

Lou Ferrigno's cameo got a huge reaction from the audience.

Yes, they went for the old TV series, including, at one point, the music.
I thought the old TV series had a lot going for it; at least, the few bits of it I've seen recently were well-written. They incorporated that.

I've now seen Iron Man twice, and still haven't seen Captain America's shield. It's supposed to be in the 'this isn't the worst thing you've caught me doing' scene.

Finally got to see The Incredible Hulk. I liked it alot. Marvel Studios is off to an outstanding start with Iron Man and Hulk being as good as they where. Tim Roth never disappoints and Ed Norton was an excellent Bruce Banner. Lots of little Easter Eggs in this one to. Over all I give it {guardian} {guardian} {guardian} {guardian} . The best part IMHO was the inevitable Hulk vs. Abomination throwdown. WOW thats what a super hero/villian fight is supposed to look like.

Saw Iron Man again and finally saw the Roxxon Building.

Also saw The Love Guru which was pretty average at best and saw Get Smart which was good but nothing to write home about.

I'm in the "thumbs down on Indy" camp. It also felt to me like a bad action film, not an Indy film.
I wanted to like it.

hulk was awsome, way better than the first. i give it a 4 out of 5
iron-man was also great, robery downey jr. is awsome 5 out of 5

Just saw Batman. WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!! They nailed it. I was blown away. If you think I was happy about that. Prior to the movie they debuted the Watchmen trailer. Words dont describe how excited I am about that project. The trailer is up now on Watchmenmovie.com
