What is an Artist’s Edition?
• AN ARTIST’S EDITION PRESENTS COMPLETE STORIES WITH EACH PAGE SCANNED FROM THE ACTUAL ORIGINAL ART.
• While appearing to be in black & white, each page has been scanned in COLOR to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art—for example, you are able to clearly see paste-overs, blue pencils in the art, editorial notes, art corrections. Each page is printed the same size as drawn, and the paper selected is as close as possible to the original art board.
• See these classic tales as they first appeared on the drawing board of John Byrne!
• Advance solicited for an April release!
I figured out a long time ago, using the photocopier / scanner at work, that unless you're scanning pure text, it's best to scan in colour - even if what you're scanning has no colour. It gives you a much better end result. Better even (I think) than greyscale.

Well we did get lucky.

I saw a copy at the LCS today and it is absolutely big and sweet and just awesome. Plus, Marrina's in it!Quote:
IDW is pleased to offer more than six issues worth of Fantastic Four stories by John Byrne in the Eisner Award-winning Artist's Edition format. Included in this volume are issue 232 (the first one with Byrne on as writer & artist), issue 238 (the first story), plus issues 241, 243, 247 and 261 as well as the classic What If #36 story,"What if the Fantastic Four had not gained their powers?" There is also an art gallery included that showcases more than a dozen covers.
Nearly all of the pages in this book have been scanned from the actual original art that was drawn by John Byrne. This Artist's Edition measures 12 x 17 inches and is 168 pages long. Each book is shipped in a custom cardboard box for maximum protection. Available in late May of 2013.
Note: There will be no special edition of John Byrne's Fantastic Four Artist's Edition.

EDIT: moving thread from "Other Comics" to "Alpha News"
Whoa. $100. Well, to paraphrase The Barenaked Ladies, if i had $1,000,000 i'd buy this.
As i have less than zero dollars, i will have to settle for buying negative copies. Now, if i can just figure out how to get to the Negative Zone, and stay away from Annihilus long enough to find all those negative copies...
It really is a beautiful book, and very interesting for anyone interested in the craft of comics.
I'd absolutely love there to be an AF #1 one, but I doubt we'd ever get it.
I was able to pick one up tonight, under the $100 cover price (thanks, LCS!) and let me say it's just incredible. Any Byrne fan will just go nuts over this thing. The page with Marrina is amazing, including light pencil marks over her flesh that look so realistic that you won't want to even brush your finger over them for fear of smearing them. And the rest of the book, what can I say, it's just so big and awesome. I love it! Seriously get one of these for your Alpha Flight Collection.
Ah, there's another AE coming out with Alpha Flight!

Yay! That does look cool.
Well this came out today and she's a beaut! The original art for Kevin Nowlan's cover for Alpha Flight #52 is shown too, along with a small inset from that artwork (featuring Guardian) on one of the intro pages.
But there's more: The original art from Terry Austin's cover from Classic X-Men#16 is printed, featuring Weapon Alpha, along with both John Byrne's Uncanny X-Men #139 and #140 cover artwork, on facing pages! But the real gem is the original art for Dave Cockrum's Uncanny X-Men #109. Wow, just wow. You can also find Sasquatch on the original art for Bob Layton's cover for Contest of Champions #1.
This is a real treat for Alpha Flight fans with no fewer than 6 pages (out of 144) of Alpha Flight goodies with some key books included. Nice!
Wasn't CXM #16 Art Adams?

Hmm...
What qualifies as 'modern'?
If it's 1990 onwards I'm not convinced we'll get anything...
It says 'the last 25 years', so, yes, 1990 on. I certainly won't be getting anything.
Yes, I know how you meant it. :)
IDW is publishing another Artist Edition of Byrne's X-Men run. Just based on the solicit, we're sure to get at least one page of Alpha Flight artwork:

John Byrne’s X-Men Artifact Edition
Chris Claremont (w) • John Byrne (a & c) • Terry Austin, Various (inks)
John Byrne’s run on the X-Men began with issue #108 and lasted until #143. The team of Claremont, Byrne, and Austin made the X-Men (which was already a hit series under Dave Cockrum) soar to the top of the charts in comics sales. They introduced Alpha Flight, and then created the near mythical storylines “The Dark Phoenix Saga” and “Days of Future Past.” These and the rest of their stories remain burned into the memories of collective fandom to this day, and have been the basis for several X-Men films.
This Artifact Edition will include more than 100 pages of X-Men covers, splashes, and pages from Byrne’s X-Men run. All have been meticulously scanned from the original art and reproduced to the exacting Artist’s Edition standards that have won IDW Publishing five highly coveted Eisner Awards (to date)!
