History
Colin Ashworth Hume was born in Canada, but moved to England in his pre-teens with his mother and step-father. After Hume discovered he had the mutant ability to form "hard air" molecules, he was hired as a special agent for Roxxon Oil, Inc. and took the codename Windshear. When Alpha Flight members Diamond Lil and Madison Jeffries were called in to deal with a unique situation, they met and were assisted by Hume. With the assistance of Forge, they discovered that James Hudson had become integrated in the Roxxon computer system. After freeing Hudson from Roxxon, Colin felt shame for having been involved with such an operation. Hudson invited him to join Alpha Flight, which he did. Colin served as a field agent for a short time before being appointed the role of Alpha Flight's Chief Administrator.

Winshear was involved with the training team Beta Flight in a battle against The Master. Together with the young heroes, Hume stopped The Master's plans to unleash the Ska'r on the world. The trainees proved themselves to Windshear in this battle, and they likewise developed respect for him. Quite naturally, he slid into a mentor role for the Beta Flight team.

While fighting Vision of the Avengers in the Infinity Crusade,"he could have shielded himself from that blast formed a wall of solid air molecules! or simply turned the Vision solid. Even crushed him with his own weight" Yet, he choose not to, to defy the Goddess passively.

When Alpha Flight disbanded in the wake of the Super Hero Registration Act, Hume retired from super-heroics. Returning to England, Colin opened an art gallery, displaying "hard air" sculptures.

In the wake of House Of M, many mutants lost their powers. Windshear was reportd to be on the list of depowered mutants. The lost powers were absorbed by a being known as The Collective.

Having since retired, Colin became one of the hosts of Power Players, a television program which analyses the super hero community. One of their topics discussed was Red She Hulk being added to the “Federal Watchlist” for her attacks on military installations and his time with Alpha Flight.

At an unknown time, Colin was diagnosed with leukemia; which was believed to have been caused by the radioactive elements in the original Windshear armor. Sick and dying, Colin decided he wanted to leave a legacy for the world and came out of retirement. No longer having powers, Colin developed a new suit to mimic his lost abilities and went by the new codename Chinook, the “Hero of Hogtown” & the “Knight Tempest”.

Shortly after the death of Wolverine, X-23 hurt and broken by her mentors death came to a Toronto nightclub. Suddenly, the Happy Clams armed with guns opened fire on the crowd. X-23 suddenly becomes temporarily subdued by the gang, but Chinook arrives to help defeat the foes. X-23 and Chinook decided to work together and take the fight directly to the gang’s leader, Pink Pearl. The short encounter X-23 had with Colin left as lasting impression on her. No longer angry and empty, she had a positive look on life and was finally proud. Colin explained to her the reason why he came back as a hero as he wanted to leave the world something beautiful, and wore bright colors to touch people. The costume made him a symbol, not a man, and the bright colors can’t be stained by past regrets and mistakes. The colors are a symbolized idea, which X-23 took to heart and returned to the X-Men with new colors in her hair as a tribute to Colin and Wolverine.

Powers/Abilities
Windshear is a mutant with the ability to project "hard-air" molecules similar to the Invisible Woman. Roxxon Oil developed his armor to fully harness his power, giving him better control as well as the ability to fly. Later, his armor was modified by Alpha Flight when they wore identical team costumes. The armor had a retractable protective tinted plexiglass faceplate and a radio communicator built into the helmet. (Stats are from Marvel X-Men Encyclopedia [Vol.2] and The Official Handbook Of The Marvel Universe - Master Edition #26.)

Explosive Pressure Punches: A powerful attack where Colin manipulates the hard-air in his hand and delivers a very damaging punch. When used on an alien during the Infinity Crusade, the alien's "battle armor, flesh and tissue liquefy" when he made contact.

Flight: The body armor had turbojets built on the feet and a jetpack that used "hard-air" propulsion granting him flight.

Hard-Air: Colin's ability is to turn the surrounding air into "hard air". He can manipulate it into various shapes and forms depending on what he wishes to use it for. He can make hard air bullets or objects as large as oversized protection blocks. He can make the air go "solid, heavy or poisonous." When he was 14 and first developed his powers, he carried a gym bag full of clothes with him. When attacked, he filled it with "hard-air" and it hit with the force of bricks. In the same fight, he filled a pipe with hard-air making it too heavy for a grown man to hold, yet 14-year-old Colin was able to wield it.

Hard-Air Blasts: Windshear has the ability to project streams of "hard-air" molecules from his hands as concussive force. He is able to control the strength of the blasts. When the Consortium attacked Toronto, Windshear created a downdraft at 45 degrees sending several spaceships hurtling into the ground.

Hard-Air Battering Ram: This is hard-air manipulated into a long cylinder, which he could make larger or smaller. He was able to hurl the hard-air cylinder at a target and crush it.

Hard-Air Explosion: Colin can solidify all the air around him, causing a hard-air explosion. It's very effective and can take out multiple opponents depending on range. When first used,he knocked out four men with it.

Hard-Air Needles: Hard-air solidified into a needle-like shape, able to tear into a target. He can make thousands of miniature needles at once, making an effective ranged attack.

Hard-Air Respiratory Attack: Windshear has the ability to alter the gases inside a respiratory system, causing the person's blood to become the consistency of glue. This is a very powerful and potentially lethal attack.

Hard-Air Screen: Windshear can use his "hard-air" defensively. He can create huge hard-air screens to block incoming attacks. He can vary the size of the screens: small blocks, a circular shield around himself or another, or massive walls around a perimeter.

Hard-Air Sculptures: After Colin retired from the superhero business, he opened up a shop that sells objects made of "hard-air." He can create permanent shapes with his hard-air. The objects can be made visible using special lighting, and are sold at a high price.

Liquid to Solids: Colin also had the ability to turn liquids "solid," although he rarely did this. The Marvel X-Men Encyclopedia mentions that he can turn liquids into gases. The full extent of this ability was never stated.

Reflexes: Colin has athletic reflexes, superior to the average human.

Speed: In his base form he has athlete speed [peak range: 11-20 miles per hour], but in his Roxxon armour, he could reach subsonic speeds [250-500 mph]. Later, his armor was modified when he joined Alpha Flight and was capable of reaching Mach 1 [770 mph]

Strength: Colin has athletic strength allowing him to press up to double his body weight. While in his armor, he has Superhuman Class 10 strength, which allows him to press in the 2-10 ton range. It is unknown if his strength level increased when his armor was modified.

After M-Day, Windshear lost his abilities but to compensate Colin developed a new suit made out of kevlar and housed air tanks which would mimic his mutant powers. With the Chinook suit, Colin could make hard air constructs, project instant hardening foam that can encase people, and shoot concussive air blasts. This new suit lacked the ability to fly, but he traveled through the City using tethers and ropes so he could swing to his destination.
