History
Born to parents who were killed during Mao's cultural revolution, Dei Guan was placed, as an orphan, into a re-education camp. As he grew older, his loyalty was measured against the amounts of ore he removed from the earth. It was while he was working within the mine that he had a vision, approached by a geomancer, he was told of Jade Dragons, who lived deep within the bowels of the earth. These Dragons lent their powers to deserving warriors. Imparted with the powers of the Jade Dragon, Dei Guan effected an escape from the mines and following the end of the cultural revolution, he enlisted in the military of what he thought would be the new China.

Dei Guan was part of a Chinese military force, sent to force a group of Tibetan monks to adhere to Chinese policies. When these monks created a mystical force field, Dei Guan was ordered to assume the guise of the Jade Dragon and drive back the monks. The Jade Dragon made his way to the temple, but found himself confronting Puck, who has been wandering Tibet since he had left Alpha Flight. Puck and the Dragon began to battle, but to prevent Puck from being killed by the Dragon's fire breath, the head Llama threw himself into the path of the fire and was killed. This forced the Jade Dragon to question his government's policies and he turned on the military force he had arrived with. When Puck pulled Alpha Flight back from Liveworld and they were transported to Canada, the Jade Dragon found himself in Canada with them.[footnote=1]%2$s[/footnote]

Once in Canada, he was questioned and debriefed by the Canadian authorities. Dei Guan was eventually taken into custody by China Force after they had killed the Secret Service operatives who had been debriefing him. He was released by Alpha Flight, following their defeat of China Force, but he volunteered to go back to China to try and clear his name. Since he returned to China, he has joined a mutant dissident group, which also included the Collective Man. During this period, the group, Three-Peace, was double crossed in an arrangement with the leader of the 'Mutant Liberation Front', Reignfire.[footnote=2]%2$s[/footnote]
