Wendigo is a supernatural force a consequence of cannibalism and is created by a trespass against the natural order. An act which is cursed by the Elder Gods, the Gods of the Arctic that transforms the person into a hideous cannibal beast. Like an addict, Wendigo is a personification of hunger, a demon. It?s presumed the only way to undo the curse is through the confession of wrong of how you became the Wendigo. Over the years there have been multiple incarnations of the Wendigo passed down to those who perform the act of cannibalism. The Wendigo is immortal and can't be killed, but it was said the host becoming Wendigo is also immortal, but he has been killed. Once a year, when the stars are in the right position, the Wendigo becomes human for a few minutes so that he could be tormented by the guilt of what he has done.

Paul Cartier
Paul Cartier went hunting in the forests of Quebec with two of his comrades, Henri Cluzot and George Baptiste to get some meat for the winter. However, wolves attacked the trio and the three sought shelter in a cave, but they had lost their supplies and Henri soon died from mortal injuries. The wolves prevented their escape and they soon began to slowly starve to death, and slowly go insane. On the 4th morning George awoke to see Paul eating the body of Henri and thus became the Wendigo.

At a later date, the Hulk was journeying through the Quebec wildness when the voice of Paul Cartier summoned the Hulk through telepathy to aid him. However, just before he reacts he is attacked by a group of humans lead by Marie in a quest to avenge her brother. She believed him to be the Wendigo and that the Wendigo took her brother, but the Hulk convinces them he isn?t and vows he will return her brother. As he Hulk journeys the Canadian countryside, he awakens the slumbering Wendigo. He immediately punches the Hulk, but Paul?s comrade, George Baptiste comes out from the boulders begging Hulk to help him as the Wendigo traps human and plays with them torturing them before he eats them. Wendigo then knocks out George and the two behemoths begin to clash. Wendigo hits the Hulk off a cliff with a blow that ?could crush a mountain? and throws George after, which Hulk catches and takes him to a village to see a doctor, as he believed he was Paul.

George told Marie of the story of her brother, which Hulk immediately dashes off to see if he can capture Paul and bring him to the settlement to be treated. Wendigo arrived at a logging camp, which the Hulk interrupts and the duo begin to clash but not before the voice of Paul speaks to Hulk inside his mind once again begging for help as his mind is dissolving. The duo clash, until the Hulk tackles the Wendigo into the ground and the voice of Paul says the Wendigo is taking over his mind and there was nothing you could have done and it?s not his fault and with that the last shred of intelligence vanished from the Wendigo and he sent the shocked Hulk flying as the new Wendigo vanished into the woods.

Some time passes and the Hulk once again finds himself in the Quebec wilderness, however he is detected by the Royal Canadian Air Force Tracking Installation and they mobilize Weapon X to deal with the issue. Hulk hears the voice of Marie Cartier in his head telling him to find her. She resides in a stone building, where a Marie ever since Paul?s transformation has been studying the dark arts trying learning a way to save her brother. George has come to lend aid and he feels he owes a great debt to them. Marie plans to place the Hulk and Wendigo on two separate pallets in a ritual to invoke a spell that transfers the Wendigo curse to another. The Hulk arrives at their location, which he remembers them to being their friends. Marie using his confidence in them tricks the Hulk getting him to eat Vapors of Slumber, putting him fast asleep on one of the pallets. She then proceeds to send a spell to summon the Wendigo to their location. George desperately tried to convince her this was not the right way and just before the discussion goes further the Wendigo arrives, but the now awakened Hulk remembers the Wendigo and the duo once again begin to clash until Wolverine arrives to break them up

The trio begin to fight each other, and Wolverine goes after the Wendigo in an action the Hulk believed he was actually aiding him and his friend. The duo knocks the Wendigo unconscious and suddenly Wolverine and the Hulk begin to fight. As the two are distracted Paul and Marie take the Wendigo back to their ritual location and place him on one of the pallets. The two continue their battle until Marie casts a spell of subjugation placing Wolverine and the Hulk into a deep slumber. By doing so the Hulk reverts back to Bruce Banner and Marie still wishes to continue their plan, but George has had enough and flees. The emotional-distressed George in solitary travels to the stone slab building and performs the rite of transformation. Marie?s plans fail as Wolverine and Hulk quickly wake and she flees to the stone building in which she finds Paul transformed back into a human, while George has become the newly christened Wendigo. He telepathically speaks to Marie and explains the reason he did it was he loved her and flees into the forest with his mind completely overtaken by the Wendigo.

Georges Baptiste
Georges was a professor at the Univeristy of Montreal and was friends with Paul who transformed into the Wendigo. Along with Paul's sister the two took great efforts in finding away freeing him of his curse. The emotional-distressed George in solitary traveled to the stone slab building, which Marie was going to transfer the Wendigo curse to the Hulk and performs the rite of transformation on himself. Marie?s plans fail as her spell that subdued Wolverine and Hulk quickly wore off and she flees to the stone building in which she finds Paul transformed back into a human, while George has become the newly christened Wendigo. He telepathically speaks to Marie and explains the reason he did it was he loved her and flees into the forest with his mind completely overtaken by the Wendigo.

Four months after becoming the Wendigo, Georges traveled to Roos Inlet during an intense snowstorm forcing the village to fight for their lives. Wendigo began to systematically kill the villagers from Hercule Maris, Madame Valery, and countless others. So the villagers devised a plan and using all their gasoline supply and trap the Wendigo inside the church causing it to explode like a ?baby nuke?. The plan failed, but the Wendigo was eventually chased away from a flare gun shot to its face.

Some time later, Wolverine and Nightcrawler traveled to Canada to speak to the Canadian Government so he could make amends for leaving the organization. However, Wolverine went to visit Heather and James, but he was in the North Country by Hudson Bay as he was sent by the government to deal with a pressing matter. The duo joined Shaman, Snowbird and Guardian in the pursuit of the Wendigo as he was responsible for the disappearance of mountie Joe Parnall and his family. The family was camping by Big Moose Creek, near Hudson Bay, which had Parnall, his wife, their six year old son and infant daughter and stayed there for several days with any incidents. Suddenly one night the Wendigo attacked the camp killing Joe, and Tommy fled and didn?t stop until a bush pilot found him two days later, wandering alone the shore, half-dead from exposure. He was left catatonic, and when authorities ventured to the camp Eileen Parnall and the daughter were not to be found.

As Nightcrawler went to the jeep to gather supplies, the Wendigo came out from the bushes and attacked him. A single blow sent him out of the forest into the cabin which Alpha Flight and Wolverine planed their attack. The team battled the Wendigo and the jeep, which held the supplies was tosses at them by the monster, thankfully Guardian incinerated it with a plasma blast, but the explosion of the fuel created a forest fire allowing Wendigo to flee. Wolverine and Snowbird tracked down the Wendigo with great difficulty to his den where he is keeping Eileen and her daughter alive so he could have fresh meat when he was hungry. Wolverine sent Snowbird away to contact James, but as she left the Wendigo was just about to eat Mrs.Parnall when Wolverine stepped in and took action. He subdues Wendigo for the briefest of moments so he and Parnall with her daughter in hand flee. However, Wendigo quickly catches up and severely beats Wolverine until Nightcrawler and Alpha Flight save him. Having no other choice as their efforts were merely staggering him nothing more as his enhancement that created him protects him from the full force they use. So Snowbird transforms into a wolverine and attacks Wendigo. What transpires is a blood battle, which leaves the Wendigo unconscious, the darkling spell that created him already healing his fearsome wounds. In a matter of hours he will be good as new, but Shaman performs a counter spell and transforms the monster back into man. A thankful George is glad his strife is over, but Guardian informs him he is under arrest as he had no choice, as under the Canadian law he became Wendigo on his own free will. This renders him culpable for any crimes he committed while as Wendigo. The courts shouldn?t be to hard on him, as his acts were those of an insane man and his memories of what he did are a far worse punishment than a lifetime in prison.

Francois Lartigue
In a cabin resided animal-trappers that that were stuck in a severe snowstorm. It wasn?t long after the food ran out that driven to madness by hunger, Francois murdered his companions and ate them and thus began the Wendigo. Elsewhere a returning Hulk was sent back to Earth from his journey on Halfworld. He arrived in the Northern Woods of Canada and while in his Bruce Banner persona he traveled to what looked like abandoned cabin trying to get out of the harsh cold.

He stumped into the dark cabin only to find it was a pantry for the Wendigo where skeletons with their all their meat gnawed off remained. Yet in all his fear he couldn?t transform into the Hulk, and Wendigo arrived grabbing him but not before Sasquatch saves him from Wendigo?s gulches. Walter Langkowski was camping in the immediate area and heard human screams. He arrived at a destroyed camper, where the Wendigo killed and ate the people and took them back to that cabin which he tracked down. Sasquatch fended off the Wendigo in order to give Bruce time to flee, but Banner wanted to help but couldn?t transform into the Hulk due to all the gamma radiation he absorbed from various adventures that altered his chemistry. It was then he force ably transformed himself, a feat never done before turning him into the Hulk with Bruce Banner?s intelligence. Their plan was to subdue the beast so Shaman could arrive and perform a counter spell and transform Francois back into a human being.

Together the duo battled the creature and subdued him by grabbing each a tree slamming into the Wendigo at the same time. The Wendigo became the immovable force between two irrestible objects and the pain he feels is greater than any beast-supernatural or otherwise can withstand. It would take him hours to heal, and by that time he will not be the Wendigo anymore. It?s unknown if Shaman did in fact cure him, or if he is Yeti of Weapon P.R.I.M.E.

Unknown #2
The origins of this variation of the Wendigo are unknown, but he appeared during the self-appointed quest of Werewolf by Night to save the soul of the host that the Wendigo curse possessed. Werewolf traveled to Canada, as he gathered information that would be vital to his plans to help the human inside. He tracked down Wendigo, who at the moment was feasting on a human being and the two came into conflict. Werewolf knew he was outclassed so he dug his claws deep into the Wendigo?s shoulder muscles and clung to his back and held on for dear life until the moon arose and the Wendigo unexpectedly collapsed. In actuality the Werewolf discovered once a year, when the stars are in the right position-the Wendigo becomes a human for a few minutes, so that he can be tormented by the guilt he has done. He knew he couldn?t do anything while he was the Wendigo, but wanted to do something for the human inside as he remembered the days he was a mindless man-beast under a full moon. So once the transformation was completed, he planned on ending the curse by slaying the human. However, just when the transformation was complete and was about to fulfill his plans, the human host remembered his crimes and merely laughed, believing he was the freest man on Earth. Werewolf was shocked that he found a human monster that deserved the Wendigo curse and fled into the forest not completing his mission. It?s unknown what happened to this Wendigo after these events.

Andre
A headmaster in Northern, Wisconsin while stocking firewood for the coming winter, his chopping loosened the thin soil under his feet revealing a previous unknown cavern below. He fell into the cave and the large log that he was cutting pinned him breaking his legs and pelvis. He stopped the bleeding with his clothes, but here he remained for 5 days with no food or water. He proceeded to wrap his severed fingers in a torn swath of cloth hoping they could be reattached once saved. Going mad from the lack of food and water, he knows his brother is coming soon but must find something, anything to save him and he ate his severed fingers becoming the Wendigo

Some time later, Wolverine flees to the North Battleford, Saskatchewan forests in order to clear his mind running through his mind if he still has what it takes after he lost his adamintium. He travels to an abandoned Weapon X facility, run by Department H. However, a dozen miles to the North, the Wendigo sniffs Wolverine and remembers he is an enemy and tracks him down. Inside Wolverine reminisces his past and suddenly Wendigo breaks through the wall and brutally attacks him, which all he can do is run. However, a claw attack to Wolverine?s stomach severely injured him as he fled back into the building. Wolverine drives out a hummer crashing into the Wendigo, which he quickly destroys and proceeds to bare hug the life out of Wolverine. Wolverine then uses his bone claws to stab the Wendigo into the eyes causing him to flee into the forest. The fight left Wolverine with an exposed spine, his guts in his arms, and countless broken bones.

In a nearby farm of Jim Jarman, his son Tommy finds the wounded Wolverine unconscious in his barn. Wolverine stays here for five days healing under the care of Tommy, while Wendigo contemplates his life before the rage and remembers his hatred for Wolverine. Wolverine and Tommy become very close, and then he realized he led Wendigo right to the family. So he leaves the kid a note and ventures into the forest to put distance between them. However, the Wendigo first goes to the barn where Tommy and his dog are trying to hide. He sniffs them out and just before he attacks Wolverine returns. Finally using his head and his self-confidence returned Wolverine uses the kerosene Tommy brought earlier tossing it onto Wendigo?s injured face and knocked over the heater sending the barn ablaze. As Wolverine grabs Tommy the Wendigo dives at them and using an axe ignited the kerosene on Wendigo?s face engulfing him in flames, which caused him to flee into the woods. Andre was eventually cured by the curse when Larry took the curse away from him. After his Mystical Talisman was removed transforming Larry back into a human, Andre once again became the Wendigo. It?s unknown if he is the Wendigo that Mauvais summoned or if he is still in the wilderness.

Larry
Larry was an indie film maker that studied the Wendigo Curse for years, and consulted shaman gypsies, anyone he could that could teach him how to tap into the power of Wendigo and make it his. All he needed is control, which his investigations provided him. He took Marlo and Lorraine to the Vancouver forests to try to create a mockumentary of monsters that are rumored to wander about. Larry happens to be the director of the film and once Captain Marvel and Rick Jones heard the news Marlo was in Canada he traveled to the Great White North due to fear she would run into the Wendigo.

One night camping the girls find their tent being tossed around by none other than the Hulk, which Captain Marvel attacks believing it to be the Wendigo. They continue to battle diving into a lake until Captain Marvel transforms back into Rick Jones, which calms the Hulk. However, suddenly from the same lake the Wendigo jumps out grabs Rick and is about to devour him. Hulk warms him to put Rick down and Rick tells him the Wendigo wouldn?t understand. However, the most unexpected happened and the Wendigo spoke. He explains the Wendigo is a curse, like any curse can be manipulated if you can find someone to provide you with the right counter spells. Captain Marvel from with inside released a non-conductive jolt that gave the distraction he needed so Rick could hit the Nega Bands summoning Captain Marvel.

The Hulk and Wendigo continue their battle 50 feet underwater and just when the Wendigo took the advantage, Captain Marvel freed the Hulk and took him to the surface. The duo attacked the Wendigo until Marlo discovered who the Wendigo really was. Marvel?s cosmic awareness showed him a premonition of Wendigo eating Marlo and his attempt to rescue her failed which halted his attack. While the Hulk continued his, he discovered the body of Lorraine, who Wendigo killed by devouring her arm and seeing this made me feel a sense of sadness transforming him back into Banner. Just as Wendigo is about to kill Bruce, Marvel sends a blast at him, however, Wendigo discovers a hidden Marlo and uses her as a hostage. Marvel in distress offers him power on a cosmic level, by offering his Nega Bands. He was willing to give up that power, until Hulk once again arrived providing a distraction for Marlo to remove the mystic talisman on Wendigo?s ear tossing it into the water where a fish ate it. The Wendigo transformed back into Larry?s human body, but his mind was gone. However, his mind transferred to the same fish that ate the magical talisman. Thousand miles away, Andre discusses with his comrades that he was once a Wendigo and wished there was a way he could prove it. Suddenly he reverted to Wendigo while his comrades fled from him.

Mauvais
Mauvais infiltrated the set of a reality television series ?Stay Alive? by slaying and taking the form of the show?s host. Traveling to the show?s set in the Canadian Arctic, Mauvais revealed his true nature and began slaying the contestants. Mauvais began a ritual with the dead bodies and created a magical barrier meant to block the Northern Gods from Earth forever. He wanted to prevent them from being able to enter Canada, so he could rule it.

Witnessing the carnage on television, Wolverine headed north and confronted Mauvais. In actuality it was the Northern Gods leading Wolverine as their champion to confront Mauvais. The two fought until Mauvais attracted, one of the Northern Gods creations the monstrous Wendigo. They all began to battle and Mauvais killed Wendigo and consumed his heart, thus he became the Wendigo himself. He retained control of the beast?s persona, allowing his mind and abilities to remain but his strength amplified more than a regular Wendigo and thus Mauvais savagely beat Wolverine with his newfound power.

The timely arrival of Alpha Flight saved Wolverine, and together the heroes battled against him. They arrived as Snowbird felt the place where the connection between Earth and the Northern Gods home was strongest being disrupted, which is weakening Snowbird. Unfortunately Mauvais?stength kept increasing feeing his mystic column locking the Gods out. While in the battle, Mauvais caused Aurora to have a mental breakdown while Shaman and Wolverine attack the column with a mystic root that was squeezing the life out of the column. Mauvais destroyed the tree and with his powers summoned the dead Wendigo as well as other monsters from the past that use to roam Canada when Indian mystism was much more at work and their power rivaled the Wendigo. Half the team tried to fend of the monster horde while Shaman and the others focus their energy on to the column.

Mauvais stretching his power to thin maintaining the monsters, column as well as holding off the attack on him allowed the team to destroy the column. However, all the mystic energy from the column went back into himself, now fully charged he was using his full power killing Alpha Flight and Wolverine until the Northern Gods arrived. Nelvanna felt their punishment was to lenient. In an act of deviance, Mauvais sends a blast at Nelvanna, which in turns catches the blast and sends it back. It?s not their way to kill as told by Nelvanna or the blast would have killed him. Deeming a new prison needs to be implemented they banish Mauvais into a portal. He struggled to the bitter end, and Wolverine made sure he was going, but was caught and was nearly pulled in until Mauvais let him go. As a premonition told him that his life is about to take a dark path, a place far worse than what he could have created. Mavais was sent to the Realm of the Beasts, which a terrified Mauvais notices the Great Beasts are watching over him.

Unknown #5
Nothing is known of this version of the Wendigo, but he appeared after the incident with the mutant Paul Patterson, whos mutant powers allows him to absorb and store solar energy for various effects including enhancing his own strength and energy blasts. However, if he should be disrupted absorbing the energy such as a puncture the stored energy in his cells would explode outward and the explosion would cause Paul to uncontrollably teleport to another location.
