    Default I-Help

I'm wondering if somebody(s) can give me a hand with some information.

I ordered my first iPod from the Apple store the other day (due to arrive next week).

I've never used either an iPod or iTunes before.

I run a PC, and all my music is sorted and played through good ole Windows Media Player.

My understanding is that iTunes is the vehicle (program) that my new iPod will use to transfer music from my PC to itself.

So, how exactly do I go about using iTunes? I mean, I don't want another program to take over my music collection on my PC, I am quite happy with my WMP. If I activate/download/whatever iTunes, will all my music automatically now come up in there? Is there a way to stop that from occurring, and only dump the songs into iTunes that i actually want on my iPod (as I don't want ALL my music on there, just some of it)?

As long as you set WMP as your default program for music files you'll be fine.

You can manually choose which files to add to iTunes, but you'll need to make sure you choose not to let iTunes organise your files else it'll move them to its own folder.

All in all its pretty easy to use after a while, but the constant updates and pointless changes are bloody annoying.

    Thanks Phil.

Looking forward to using my iPod in my car, it's very small (my car, that is) and does not really have any place to put CDs.

I've also turned off automatic updates on mine... but I do that with a lot of my programs.

I do find iTunes very convenient and useful, but I'm used to it.

Um... no. No humour intended; I do find iTunes convenient and useful... but that's partly because I'm very used to using it.

Well, its a sweet-looking little player.

I've gone so far as to take it out of its box and hold it in my hand. Now i just have to find the time to be able to sit down and fiddle away for a few hours....maybe next week.

Enjoy it! My iPod has been a great companion to me for a long time. Sometimes, it even talks to me. It tells me to do things...

I bought my wife an iPad, and an iPod, and an iPhone, so yes, we like using Apple stuff. And they all work well for her (at least when she's not losing her iPod, she's lost 2 and when we found one I'd already bought her a replacement, so my 2nd son got it and I bought one for my oldest son).

Yeah, my iphone is the only thing that keeps me going on my commute to work, and I've recently bought an ipad as I move more into digital comics.
