    Default Byrne-inspired

Found this juicy piece online. Says it is inspired by the artwork of John Byrne. Gorgeous.

Best Byrne imitation I've seen since Bob Layton.

One poster put it best: "Na alala ko ung ginawa nyang".
    Um, what's a nyang?

Might be. His About Me location does say Philippines.

I wish gammaknight had more Alpha Flight work besides the volume II pic I posted a link to last week. Here it is again in case anyone missed it

After seeing that awesome Wolverine pic, I revisited gammaknight's site, and found Northstar in an X-Men spread with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Archangel, and Cannonball -

I like him best when he's doing Byrne, but his work is always good.
The only real question I have is, why is this guy not doing comics full-time?
Even if he can't tell a story panel-to-panel (I don't know that he can't, but that's the only reason I can guess), he should be doing covers at least!

I believe you already saw the answer to that question, and it is, "Na alala ko ung ginawa nyang."

    Default Impressive

Monsanto has some crazy skills; I'd like to see his take on the volume 4 line-up.

That would be the volume 1 line-up (original)... 'cept the costuming on Marrina.
Fan theory: was that really Mar?

Yes, that is awfully good! I would have rather seen it on a larger scale, and perhaps in B&W as the colours look a little pencil-crayony in places, but it is still a nice piece of artwork.

Even his signature looks a bit like Byrne's.
    Very good.
    Guardian's a bit thin, though.

I really like (volume 4's) new-look MARRINA and I think the reverse-Maple Leaf on "Heather"/Vindicator is a good design and a good idea. I'm trying not to get so stuck in the past that I can't appreciate some of the things that have actually made the originals better. [Turning "Heather" into a cold-blooded killer, notwithstanding]

BTW, Michael without the headband is very good; I wonder if there was a reason other than aesthetics?
Once upon a time, they exploded from the pages of The X-Men. For a moment, they were "Canada's answer to The Avengers."

    They were ALPHA FLIGHT....

    ...once upon a time.
