History
Attuma is a member of the species Homo mermanus. Empowered with super strength and great fighting skills, he has tried on numerous occasions to wrest power from the leaders of Atlantis. To this end. he has allied himself with others and found himself in conflict with the Sub-Mariner.
The former Alpha Flight member Marrina had gone in search of her confidant Namor when she experienced stomach cramps and welts appeared on her skin. Namor was a member of the Avengers at the time. His absence had led to turmoil within Atlantis. Attuma had been hired to try and bring order, but upon spying Marinna approaching Atlantis, he captured her in an attempt to draw Namor back to Atlantis. The Atlantean Byrrah, a somtime ally of Attuma, realised that an Atlantis under the rule of Attuma was not somthing he wished to see. He went to the Avengers Mansion to inform Namor]]f the events unfolding in Atlantis]. Namor left the Avengers immediately and headed to Atlantis. Namor engaged Attuma's forces and was defeated. The Atlanteans, whom he thought would assist him in defeating Attuma, stood by and he realised that they would prefer Attuma as leader instead of him with Marrina by his side. Escaping from the battle, Namor sent Byrrah to enlist the aid of Alpha Flight while he returned to the Avengers to ask for their help.
Alpha Flight, in direct violation of orders from the Canadian government, headed for Atlantis where their Omnijet was blasted from the sky. Meeting up with the Avengers underwater, they battled Attuma's hordes. While the battle raged, Northstar released Marrina. The two teams found themselves surrounded by Atlanteans. To end the fighting, Namor renounced the throne, leaving Attuma as de facto leader. Attuma called an end to the fighting and the two teams left.[1]
