I am just trying to think...are there any re-prints of the original debut of Mac/Alpha Flight in X-Men? Anything at all that might cost less than, oh, $3 billion?

But wait, FP, there's more! With that edition you get extra story pages!
There's also the recently-printed X-Men: Alpha Flight hardcover, but that may be pricey. And various reprints of X-Men from that era...
But, yeah, go with the one you got. Art Adams cover!

These two panels from Classic X-Men # 16 really got me thinking...
Heather is, even here, seen as the stronger of the two, isn't she? Mac is the one breaking down, and Heather the one he needs comforting from.
Heather's comments about the suit...is it just because it is hindsight, or does it seem that even way back then, she was hinting that she wanted to wear the suit, that she would be the better hero than Mac while he would be better as just a scientist? Even though she seems supportive of him, and worried for him, there seems a hint there that she desires to put on the suit, doesn't there?
Also, Mac's final words about creating AF and proving himself worthy to lead it; this, to me, is what Freg's writing seems to be trying to do with the current AF series (yes, I will call it a series; hope springs eternal, and all that). It seems like this panel was possibly a huge turning point for their ideas on what Mac would be like during their writing of Volume 4.
Thoughts?

The important thing to remember here is that those panels weren't in the original (UXM #110). By the time Chris Claremont wrote them and Kieron Dwyer (John Byrne's stepson, btw) drew them, Heather had been wearing the suit for two years (real time) - an idea Byrne railed against. (I believe his words were 'making that suit work on a female body boggles the mind'.)
So, maybe she was - but only as a retcon.

"I'd love to, but I'm writing a love letter to Richard Simmons."
Re read the Marvel Age interview the other day and yje comment Byrne made about the protagonist in #2-4 being a gent called the Overlord. I have a faint recollection of Byrne saying, somewhere at sometime that he decided against that and chose the Master, because there was a gent in 'The Defenders' called Overmind. Could anyone clarify please?

Driftwood: Well, I got about a foot and a half. Now, it says, uh, "The party of the second part shall be known in this contract as the party of the second part."
Fiorello: Well, I don't know about that...
Driftwood: Now what's the matter?
Fiorello: I no like-a the second party, either.
Driftwood: Well, you should've come to the first party. We didn't get home 'til around four in the morning... I was blind for three days!
Just picked up the X-Men/Alpha Flight hardcover last week, containing the classic Alpha Flight intros in X-Men #120 & 121. Those were the first X-Men books I had ever read (I was an Avengers fan up to that point)... and after seeing a Canadian superhero, draped in the maple leaf, I was hooked.
The Flight Forever !
Ooo, didn't realize that one. That explains a lot, then! (here I thought only the 'extra stories' at the end were the added parts!)The important thing to remember here is that those panels weren't in the original (UXM #110).

Overmind is a charater from the Squadern Suprime future, and travelled back in time to where he took the controll of the Squadern and overthrew the Earth S (Earth 712) but Hyperion escaped to the regular Marvel Earth (616) and brought the Defenders over to stop him, only to find that the Overmind was being controlled by Null the Living Darkness. He was killed in the Squadern Suprime GN Death of a Universe where he tried to stop the Nth Man and had his head blown off.
