What do people think?
Since I have virtually zero contact with this version of the Guardians (no Vance Astro? No Martinex? No Nikki or Charlie-27?! Pfeh.), I found the trailer to pique my interest.
Boy, they (be it the comic people or the movie people) have sure changed the characters. I knew Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot when...
Ha!
I like the tone of the trailer. If the movie follows the same tone, it looks like it'll be okay.
Personally, I thought Avengers and Thor (movies) took themselves too seriously; I know they had some humor, but I felt it was overshadowed by the "hey! look at me! I'm awesome!" style of characterization.
This movie looks more my style. But time will tell.

I'm on the same page as you Jason... I grew up reading the REAL Guardians.
Having said that, the trailer does have my curiosity. I'm interested in the Drax character... I hope they do right by him and not change him too much.
BTW... I read somewhere online that they were possibly writing the character Yondu from the original Guardians into this movie... can anyone confirm ?
The Flight Forever !
Yup, Yondu will be in the actual film. Played by Michael Rooker.
You had me until that pic of Yondu. I'm in Jason and Alphan East's spaceship - I know the original Guardians, not these guys. I've got Rocket Raccoon's mini and a couple of his Hulk appearances, but the last I saw him, he was written too tough and angry. I know little about the rest; I've seen Drax and Gamora (she's green! Yay! She's green! I've seen pics that made it look like she'd be blue.) in Infinity, too, btw.
But that looks nothing like Yondo.
That's his crest? A little gold bar embedded in his head? And he doesn't look like a primitive in that coat. (Yes, I get hung up on details. I'm a geek. Get over it.)
But, his role will be minimal, and this movie does look like it'll be fun.
Hey, is he whistling for his arrow in that pic? That part's cool, if so.

Yeah, just blue skin doth not a Yondu make (or more accurately, a Centaurian make). To me, that makes a Kree. Yondu's most defining (and striking) characteristic is that giant red crest. Even the clothing doesn't bother me.
I'm hoping that perhaps the crest will be added by CGI later, or maybe it's "tucked" and will unfurl at some overly dramatic moment.
You're right, it could be added by CG later; and I hope they fix up whatever's around it, too. Looks like scar tissue more than a natural species characteristic.
I thought about him maybe unfurling his crest, but I think, of the GotG, only Stakar does that.

Xander: Maybe we can save the "maybes" for a more dayish part of the day, girls. Potential slayers can function without sleep. Me, I'm no good without my usual ninety minutes.
