Well, i was going off of the comment below, so...
Heh. Yeah; Volume 2. Both Volume 2 and 3 do a good job using/creating characters that seem an awful lot like other characters we all know and love/hate.

Also, I read #64 and #65.
*sigh*
Those were both WTFery issues.
Both written by Mantlo, too? I thought I had gotten rid of him, but he came back? :(
And I thought that in issue #64 I was going to get the original Sasquatch back only to be let completely down by some courtroom battle that only gave me a two second reappearance of Aurora and did NOTHING to change snowsquatch back to his original self.
#65 was another let down because I don't care about Madison nor do I care about Heather at this point.
*sniffle* it just keeps making me so sad.
#66 is Mantlo's last issue, #63 was a fill-in/precursor.
It's... different.
Since I am awfully down on Mantlo's run, I thought I'd point out some of the GOOD things that I have gotten from his run (or some of the better things, anyway):
*Northstar's Snark: Undoubtedly probably one of my most favorite parts of his run was Northstar's snark with Heather and others on the team. He had every right, usually, to be a snarky jerk, especially with all the "joking" and "teasing" that went on about his sexuality.
*Marrina and Namor: Namor is one of my favorite characters, so I love seeing him in other books whenever and wherever possible. Lately, I'm kind of used to seeing Namor written out of character (New Avengers, mostly), so Mantlo writing him somewhat out of character didn't bother me so much because at least he wasn't made to look like a complete jerk. However, Namor SHOULDN'T HAVE TO chase women (corrected for all you Sue Storm fans *HUGE SIGH*). And, honestly, while I found it kind of sweet that he was "willing" to take in Marrina and her pustule babies, that didn't quite sit right with me either. 1. Marrina is just as awesome in the ocean as Namor. She may not have his strength, but she can navigate around in the ocean and swim just as well. 2. Taking in Marrina and her pustule babies like she is a charity case of love? His kingdom was broken and he was the creepy lovesick one.<---this is how Namor was written out of character. Sure, Namor's kingdom is typically broken somehow as it brings him back to land where writers are more comfortable writing him (Roy Thomas was one of the only ones who ever could write him in Atlantis well), but chasing Marrina is nonsense. But the few books from that situation were actually funny to me. Lovesick Namor is hilarious.
*Goblyn: I LOVE GOBLYN. I agree with FP about her creation and things wrong with all of that, but I freaking love Goblyn anyway. LOVE HER.
I'm sure there are some other minor things that are positive that I have taken from Mantlo's run, but those are the major things for me.
Really, Tawmis?
That's all you've got? :P
I think of her as a bizarre combination of Freddy Krueger and the Joker.
Be on the look-out for a tall, handsome man in a dusty black coat...
Actually, all you have to do is use the snake as a sort of wrap / stole. A scale boa!
It makes it easier, because that's what straps the elephant down.
Do I have to think of everything?
Really? I don't have that problem with him.
I just look at a book, or am told about it, see the word 'Bendis' on the cover, and never read it. No problem.
See, with pressure (unlike 'little things', where I can only get Alice Cooper or Galaxy Quest), I can think of three songs to quote just like that! (snaps fingers)
A chance to not hate v2.
Sorry, Crackity - I confused you there. When I went looking for the end of Mantlo's run, I stopped looking at the first Hudnall issue I found, and wasn't quite sure (and didn't check) if he'd done a fill-in before he took over entirely.
Reacting to a court ruling with violence... So poorly written, and so much the reason why so many people in-universe hate and fear superheroes.
I'm gonna GUESS that's all based on his thing with Sue.

Can we just forget the thing with Sue?
I know that's, like, a huge part of his history, and I'm probably the ONLY Namor fan who doesn't want to see him trying to steal some man's woman because it makes him "interesting and sexy". Because it doesn't.
Lady Dorma is where it's at for Namor.
Actually, I don't mind the Sue thing, but then, you know, OTHER writers had to run with that and soon he's trying to "steal" Emma Frost from Cyclops, and now he has this reputation for falling in love with blondes and being a woman stealer.
And it's not how he is.
If Marvel would just bring back Lady Dorma, this would all go away.
Ugh.
NOW I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT ALL TEH THINGS AGAIN.
That's freaking awesome right THERE. You need say NO MORE about DreamQueen. I am sure I will love her.
*sigh* I love Nick Cave
I am not following you on how this rids the snake of the elephant's weight?
I know. I cannot stand his X-Men. His NOT X-Men. blah.
hahahaha. YESSSSSS.
YAY! Do bad things happen to Purple Girl???
That, sir, is mistake #3. You're racking 'em up. You OWE ME.
I just hated that scene. FALSE HOPE IT GAVE ME. FALSE HOPE. *cries*
There. Edited, punk. :P
I read #66.
Good LORD.
But I went ahead and ordered the rest of volume 1 tonight (minus #127 because it wasn't in stock).
#67-#86 should be here this week sometime, and #87-#130 will probably be here next week or the following week.
And then someone on another forum gave me this idea:
http://www.singleboundstudios.com/index.cfm
So, I am considering doing this with all non-Byrne volume 1. As soon as I can figure out what ALLLLLL those things mean and how to order.
Yay!!
HAPPY *DEFAULT SETTINGS* 37th PAGE OF GROWTH TO MY THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's celebrate! PARTY!!!!
Le Messor: You bring the quotes and music!
FlightPath: You're in charge of supervising all the things and bringing the music that Le Messor forgets.
Tawmis: You check IDs and search people.
Phil: You grab the drinks and food and be the guy who writes out the name tags and sticks them on people wherever they want them.
rplass: You're in charge of hats.
He'd better bring the hats.
NO ONE brings the hats like rplass brings the hats.
Hat.
Finally! :D
(No, really - I was only citing precedent, not defending the bad writing.)
Got that right! It really doesn't!
That's probably more to do with Emma being written as somebody everybody falls in love with.
On their dead lover's grave.
Y'know what? I may have just figured out my 'worst character' contender (though not Alpha related) - Emma frost as a 'hero'. She was great as a villain, when Claremont in his prime wrote her, but this nasty, abrasive, supremely arrogant and selfish person as a hero? There's a reason I'm having a hard time finding comics I enjoy these days.
Well, the Joker thing is mostly just her colour scheme.
Do I have to spell it out?
Even without his lack of respect for established characters, I just don't think he's that good a writer. He's dull and repetitive with his 'Mamet-speech' and decompressed storytelling.
Bleah.
Purple Girl ins't in volume 2.
There's a reason we keep speaking of her in discussions on that book.
I think that's all I can say without spoilers - but not massive ones. I can reveal that mystery to you if you like; just say the word.
3?
Actually, I thought I was doing much worse than that!
Cool!

Actually you can change the number of posts per page from this link:
http://alphaflight.net/profile.php?do=editoptions
scroll down to "Number of Posts to Show Per Page:" I have it on 40 (the max) so it's not 37 pages for me. But happy 37th page of growth day anyway.
:)
It's 19 pages my end...
There I edited to clear up any possible confusion.
At least I'm good at correcting my mistakes.
rplass hats for everyone! With me on the hat.
Attachment 4324
You guys are so perfect!
I seriously adore you ALL.
So, is there a way to set this so that I can see only one post per page? Cuz that'd be cool, I think.,
Not if you want to keep all your digits and hands.
HA! I have no problem imagining this is something you'd like to do.
Then you were on default settings like most folks here probably are. I was until rplass had to go and ruin my blissful ignorance and stomp the fun and magic out of my soul.
Is this going to be the song on repeat all night?
Ha! i see Garry added "The Bringer of Ruin" to his posts now; awesome!
