... $500? New?
It's not like it's a 60s issue of The Fantastic Four or something. Sigh.

Could be interesting to see if anything comes of the team, and if Jeffries is still involved later.
Lots of variants for #600 though...

That's the first time I've seen Madison Jeffries' new armour. You guys are right; it's... it's not good.

I'm not sure that's Exiles Wild child in Exiles #1. Do you mean the little rectangle with the sharp teeth? Maybe a scan would help.
Yup, that's the one, AoA WC.
The Sabretooth in the top shot doesn't have sharp teeth.

Hmm… I hadn't noticed, but I didn't look at every square on that page. (Let's not point out that, having read this thread, I should've known going in that it was there…)
(Mik checks the book…)
Gosh! I hadn't even realised those panels were all AoA!
With that in mind, yeah, I agree that's probably Wild Child.

That is a great rendition of Walter in champions.
Isn't it just! Proper Byrne-smiley and just the right amount of eyebrow-age.
I really enjoyed The Master too; perfectly written arrogance.

Based on the timescale I’m assuming that’s the reproduced anniversary frame, so the same one as AF #40?

An LMD of Puck appeared in last week's Spiderman vs Deadpool #34.
There's also an LMD of Snowbird, BUT it's been coloured red as if the colourist thought it was Scarlet Witch.

Shaman appears in today's Avengers #11 representing Canada at the international superhero summit.
AVENGERS #11
(W) Jason Aaron (A/CA) Ed McGuinness
THE AVENGERS WORLD TOUR COMES TO A SHATTERING CONCLUSION!
To deal with the fallout from last month’s world-shaking issue #700, the Avengers organize an international super hero summit, gathering heroes from the most powerful nations on Earth. But no one was expecting the shocking new representatives of the United States. The world is about to become a far more dangerous place. Especially for the Avengers. Plus Hulk and Thor try to go on a date.

Mac? In Old Man Logan about 5 months ago.
Heather? World War Wendigo, pre-Secret Wars.

You mean in those comics I own and have read? (Sometimes I forget things.)
I'm still thinking Shaman was a fairly random choice, though, and wondering why it wasn't those two - specifically Mac, since he was leader in Old Man Logan; or Puck or Aurora, since they worked with Captain Marvel? (Sas is apparently unpowered right now, but maybe him?)

Garry/Al-Fan
12-12-2018, 09:24 PM
I didn't want to post anything more about Alpha Flight's appearance in Old Man Logan because the sentiment seemed to be that any exposure was good exposure---even if the story in question does not do a thing to negate the perception of Alpha Flight as ineffective D-listers.
(1) Mac---their leader---left his team vulnerable with the core of the DEADLY plant-thing, takes a piece of said deadly plant-thing back to their ship, and doesn't put on his forcefield AT ANY TIME to protect himself...a forcefield that at one time was strong enough to withstand Wolverine's adamantium claws.
(2) Even if anyone were to give any credence to Shaman's "my earth-magic won't work on alien plant-thing", his magic should work on earthlings, right? He didn't even use his teleportation spell to get the survivors to safety.
(3) The only thing Alpha Flight did half-way effectively is run away...until they were caught by the plant-thing.
I didn't want to post this because of the old saying: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
Le Messor

It does make more sense if it's one per nation.
Garry, critiques of comics are fine. Did you write up a review of the comic? That might be interesting, especially if it's considered controversial. :)

No write-up on the second part of Old Man Logan. The less said (written) about it, the better. It is not any where close to what Immortal Hulk is...a very good comic book.
Think aaraon was trying to cover the various demographics and they already had a Caucasian
Yeah, to be fair Shaman has got a deeper connection to the land and it's people.

This issue has one of the biggest, most important payoffs a comic book can have: am earnest conversation between Jackie and the Hulk that I was hoping for since IH # 5. Two people who probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to have this conversation...until they're both in Hell.
As impressive as I am of that, Judd is really, really written well (as the above excerpt/post
shows). This is proving my point that original members of Alpha Flight can be portrayed well.

A friend just emailed me with this:
"In the new comic Fearless #1 from Marvel, Captain Marvel has a long talk in space with a a French accented dark haired woman. They never actually use her name but I think it has to be Aurora."
I agree, that's probably who it is (but I haven't read it).

Ooh, I'll give it a quick look!
Hmmm... they specifically refer to themselves as French, rather than French-Canadian, so I don't think it is her...
Le Messor
07-27-2019, 06:24 PM
Thanks for checking that.
I still wouldn't be surprised if that was supposed to be her; remember how little the creators of Captain Marvel's recent series knew about AF. Not to mention just saying 'French' when they might've meant 'French-Canadian' (something the writer might've done, whether a French Canadian would or not).
I thought I'd try to clear it up by checking the 'net:
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Fearless_Vol_1_1
that says it IS her, but unless Kelly Thompson confirms it, that's still just another opinion on this (of course).

There's a blink and you'll miss it appearance by one of the twins' hip in today's History Of The Marvel Universe #6 - the side the starburst is on the uniform suggests it's Aurora, but the stance is slightly more Northstar, and having him would make more sense as he's a bigger character.
Not quite an appearance, but tangentially connected:
Yesterday's King Thor #4 - Jason Aaron's final Thor issue had a splash page by Aaron Kuder, which appeared to have a Viking-Thor era team consisting of a Sasquatch weidling the Eye of Agamotto

I asked Jason on twitter if it was Tanaraq or just a Sasquatch and he answered:
Hmmm, definitely looks like a Squatch to me. There are lots of bits in KING THOR #4 that point back to stories I've done & questions I've left unanswered. Or forward to stories I wanna do. Or both.
https://twitter.com/jasonaaron/status/1207437559204331526

I'm sure this has probably been discussed here before, and I don't know which thread to attach it to, but I've got this one open and it's vaguely appropriate, so here goes:
I've been watching The Avengers lately. This is the British TV show, John Steed & Emma Peel, not the American comics, Captain American and The Wasp.
In Mrs Peel's first appearance, there's a character named 'Tom Smallwood'.
Given that the show is a stated influence on Byrne's work (A Touch Of Brimstone is basically the origin of the X-Men's Hellfire Club), I don't think it's a coincidence that he has the same name as Marrina's father.
Sween McDervish
09-03-2021, 06:26 PM
I don't know if he's ever said what the inspiration for the name is but from a Canadian perspective, it's most likely that gave the name to Marrina because Smallwood is a famous political name in Newfoundland. Premier Joey Smallwood was responsible for bringing Newfoundland into Canada in 1949.
Le Messor
09-03-2021, 07:14 PM
That makes a lot of sense, too!
I wouldn't be surprised if it was one, or the other, or a combination.
michael herko
09-16-2021, 01:27 AM
Quick question unrelated to Marrina but still a possible appearance. Was skimming thru the latest Iron Man and saw him sneaking around Galactus ship with another armored figure who I think he calls Colin. This person talks about being from Manitou Canada ( I think). Don’t buy Iron Man but the name seemed familiar so I looked it up later. Colin was the real name of Windshear who I vaguely remember being depowered. I think he put together another set of armor. Was wondering if anyone knows if the character is actually Windshear or is it a coincidence?
Le Messor
09-16-2021, 06:27 AM
Sounds like it was deliberate; but I haven't read it and don't really know. Did the armour look like Windshear's?
Who wrote it? They might have a history with AF.

Which means he's actually more obscure than the Alpha Flight character! That's impressive. :)

Picked up a couple of fun Alpha Flight appearances today!
Marvel 2022 Calendar - this year's 2022 calendar is also free, as in years past. For August, the monthly art is the cover of the upcoming Marvel Super Hero Contest of Champions Gallery Edition HC (https://www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/DEC211089), with art taken from the cover of Contest of Champions #1, featuring Sasquatch! I am first hearing of this Gallery Edition HC through this calendar so I'm glad I picked it up. It sounds big and neat and I'll probably get a copy.
The Periodic Table of Marvel - published by DK US (https://www.dk.com/us/book/9780744039757-the-periodic-table-of-marvel/), a fun little children's book. It has a complex organization of Marvel Characters like a periodic chart of the elements, but waaaaay too complicated for kids, in my opinion. The book is organized by "Method of origination of super-powers" and somewhere in the scrum, we get some Alpha Flight! In the section "Chemical Reactions" subsection "Toxic Agents", there are entries for Purple Man and Purple Woman! Yeah, she's a mutant so she should have been in the section "Evolutionary Anomalies" subsection "Mutant" but it does correctly state: "The Purple Man's daughter, Kara Killgrave, inherits his chemically altered DNA..." There's also a tiny headshot from Alpha Flight v4 #0.1. Kinda neat and unexpected to find Kara in this kind of book, very nice! Also, in the section "Peak Humans" subsection "Cyborgs" is Guardian! This is the cyborg version of Guardian who re-appeared in Alpha Flight #88 (not #89 as erroneously indicated in this book), who actually went by the name Vindicator until he sacrificed himself in Alpha Flight #100. The tiny headshot is from Amazing X-Men #8 (2014) when Guardian was flesh and blood and wearing a white cowl, not the red cowl worn by cyborg Vindicator, so there's a bit of a mix-up there with that image. Anyway, that's also a character you wouldn't expect to find in this kind of book, so it was quite a surprise to see him!

That was the final issue.
The threads may pick up in X-Men Red, but pure speculation at this stage.

Not quite an appearance, but tangentially connected:Yesterday's King Thor #4 - Jason Aaron's final Thor issue had a splash page by Aaron Kuder, which appeared to have a Viking-Thor era team consisting of a Sasquatch weidling the Eye of Agamotto https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EMGndpUXUAEuwWz?format=jpg&name=largeI asked Jason on twitter if it was Tanaraq or just a Sasquatch and he answered:https://twitter.com/jasonaaron/status/1207437559204331526Jason has shown his AF fandom by making Puck the ruler of Hell, and showing Walt as a tutor at the future JGS, and has also used other non-Walt Sasquatches in his Hulk run. It’s revealed in Avengers #61 the characters name it Murkfoot, the apeman mystic. The Sasquatch Sorcerer Supreme. Womp womp

I was just thinking that'd technically be Tanaraq.
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if there is any connection to Tanaraq, but I imagine they won't be, which does mean we can remove the previous appearances from the list.I'll probably still pick it up though.

10-14-2022, 04:38 PM
I mean, it's still definitely Alpha-related. I wouldn't get rid of it yet, maybe just add a caveat?
Happy to go with site consensus.I'll hang on till the end of the storyline either way to see how it develops.Does this then open us up to adding every generic sasquatch/bigfoot appearance though?
Le Messor
10-15-2022, 05:47 AM
I wouldn't say every one - but this one is clearly based on our Sasquatch.
-K-M-
10-16-2022, 04:50 PM
Somewhat relevant note in the Disney+ werewolf by night special. We see a drawing of Bloodstone fight a Sasquatch in British Columbia. Not a spoiler or important to the story just a little Easter egg. Sasquatch II (AF vol2) makes generic Sasquatch appearances somewhat alpha flight related
Yeah, I saw this the other day and wondered if it lessens the chance of a Sasquatch appearance anytime soon...
-K-M-
10-19-2022, 10:11 AM
I don’t think so because as She Hulk showed their more then willing to tap into then weirder side of Marvel. Unfortunately if he does appear I expect would be treated as a joke character though
